Plattsburgh isn't any worse than Amherst (as small towns go); it's just a little colder.

100% false

I just mean in terms of as a destination for out of town visitors.

that is what I thought you meant..I do not think Amherst has luxury accomodations.. my point was that for out of town visitors, Amherst is a far better place to visit with many more things to do

It's now official: Olson had a better career than Crotty. Even if Amherst fails to make it to the final four, I still give it to Olson. Let the debate begin...or should I say resume?
I agree. Olson will finish about 50 assists shy of Crotty's career total, and that can be chaulked up to not playing that much of the first 10-12 games of his freshman year. Their points total will be very close. They both went to two final fours (Olson has this year left) and won one national championship. Olson has twice been nescac player of the year, twice been sectional MVP, and was named MVP of the final four.

I don't think stats, mvp's, etc. are a good measurement of "who is better" in a scenario like this. In my humble opinion, I think the quality of the NESCAC was better when Crotty played. I still think that the Amherst '02-03 and '03-04 teams were better than the national championship team last year. Maybe others wouldn't agree but I would take Zieja and Fitz over Hopkins and Walters any day of the week and I think this is an overall microcosm for the league. Watching Amherst-Williams-Trinity play each other was like watching an Ivy or mid major teams play and I can't really say the same for the past couple of years for NESCAC play. I think that the overall league has improved in the sense that more teams are contenders/better, such as Tufts, Midd, and Bowdoin, etc. but as far as the top teams are concerned there is just no comparison to what the league was....no offense to this year's Bowdoin, Midd, and Trinity teams. I would still have trouble taking Olson over Crotty or vice versa. My old age may leave me biased toward the older times, but I think a lot of coaches in the NESCAC would agree that the league was at its prime in the earlier 2000 years. This isn't to say that Olson would not have been very good in the early 2000s but it's hard to compare players from two different eras that, in my opinion, used to be stronger when Crotty played.

False. O'doyle rules.

In my view Ditka should comprise the entire first team.

Wrong. Kevin Hopkins should comprise the entire team.

Kevin Hopkins can sneeze with his eyes open.

Honest Question:

If you were Amherst, would you trade Brandon Jones for Manute Bol (today)?

What about Andrew Olson for Spudd Webb?

1) Kevin Hopkins can kill two stones with one bird.
2) Kevin Hopkins is the reason Waldo is hiding.
3) Kevin Hopkins can divide by zero.
4) Kevin Hopkins can eat just one Lay's potato chip.
5) Everybody loves Raymond. Except Kevin Hopkins.

i will take former amherst greats bedford, casnocha, zalaski, corrigan and schiel over olsen, jones, hopkins, bausko and walters (or any other combo of current Jeffs) any day of the week.

that being said,

There is no such thing as global warming. Kevin Hopkins was cold, so he turned the sun up.

Baller10,
I see what you are saying. Amherst relies heavily on Olson to bring the ball up, and when someone is in his jock for 40 minutes the entire length of the court, they could use someone to relieve the pressure. I don't think they have the vocal leaders they've had in the past. They don't have a Russel Lee or a John Casnocha that will speak up when things go wrong. Those two seemed to be of a similar mold. I must say in the games I watched last year Baskauskas (sp?) had the best basketball skills on the court. If he became more aggressive, more confident he would probably be the best player in the league.

Impressive week from Wholey getting it going with all aspects of the game.
Bates offense for the past couple of years has relied heavily on 2-3 guys to get it done (ie gerrity/furbush, ray/stockwell) this team its seems like those guys are gonna be wilson and wholey, we'll see how they match up once NESCAC play starts up and some of the big boys start posting up

Sportscenter quoted Don Nelson as saying the win from the Warriors against the Spurs should be marked with an asterisk because it was played without Tim Duncan.
Baller10, how do you feel about Asterisks?

that is a great point about russell lee and casnocha..it seemed like Lee took Casnocha under his wing for a few years both on and off the court and I think this led to Casnocha being a decent leader when he was a senior

The silence from the Amherst faithful after yesterday's loss to Brandeis is deafening.

I'm inerested to hear reports from those in attendance.  Is Brandeis that good even without DeLuca?  How good is U-Mass Dartmouth?

It appears that Williams had another ugly win at home against Springfield.  It's the type of game that the Ephs would have lost last year.

how can silence be deafening? this doesn't make any sense at all...silence means no noise..you become deaf from loud noises..please explain your backwards logic...

in other news, I am once again guaranteeing an Amherst National championship..i hope i have room for it on my mantle next to the celtics, pats and sox championship trophies..

Andrew Olsen for Hobey Baker!

i have done my best to stay out of the whole VIGO-ROOKIE debate, but feel i have to chime in...

this whole thing is a great example of one insecure guy (Nahill) comforting himself by putting down another guy he thinks he is better than (Vigo)...it really is ironic though, because Rookie, aka Nahill, is pretty much a nobody on the Amherst campus.

I would like to maintain my poster anonymity so that posters here still read my completely unbiased views without knowing my true identity; but I will say that I played a sport at Amherst within the last few years, and I know Vigo well. He is in fact good friends with most of the hoops team as well as many of the other athletes, so Rookie's comments about sucking up, etc. were complete garbage. Just wanted to set the record straight.
