Probably most on the team would want McCarney because they were recruited by him.  I'm sure most (all) of Chizik's recruits wanted to play for Geno or else they wouldn't be at ISU.  That's what happen when teams get a new coach.  Poll all ISU fans and 85-90% of them would say that it was time for a new coach.  These last two years would have been the same, if not worse, under McCarney.

TheOne-
YOu are counted in the original, not in the 6-8 MORE group.
Lets see, we've got a washed up exQB, a 3 washed up OL covering Center, Guard, and Tackle, a too slow safety that had balls of steel returning punts, a slow, weak middle LB that led the league in dropped INT's, and a former student coach who has a D2 national championship ring. Might also have a former whipping boy from our suite as well.

I'm working on getting an exFB who has been down graded to a tropical storm since graduating college to come along as well.

In today's world I hate that in order to be successful you have to be number 1 or win the championship, it just sets up a lot of people for failure. Basically your saying at the end of the season only 1 team had a successful season. From what I'm hearing from wartburg and central posters is that if they don't win conference then its a disappointing season. Well what let's look at it from a player's perspective. Let's say your a freshman or sophomore on that team, your playing your a*% off every week and just falling short, or barely getting by. Do you think that maybe that will be some motivation for the off-season, do you think that maybe a program builds itself up and occasionally it has to have a reloading year. I never won a conference championship at Luther, and I would never consider my time their unsuccessful. Give this kids a break, you'll learn way more about yourself and your program in a down year then you ever will in a successful year.
I've read this quote over and over and I can't see anything that even remotely suggests not keeping score. Every team has more than just one goal. I doubt that every team had a stated goal of winning the IIAC this year. Goals need to be obtainable to be of any value. Not every team is capable of winning the IIAC this year. To set a goal of doing something your not capable of, would defeat the whole purpose of setting goals.
I really hope every team's stated goal is to win the conference.  I don't see why it wouldn't be.

To me, swagger sounds similar to cocky.  Which reminds me of a-holes.  To me I would rather have confident players.  Players that know they are good and just go about their business.

I also don't know if we can go back to the days of smash mouth football.  Two backs in the backfield and run run run.  Good defenses can load up 8 in the box and beat you.  2006 Wartburg/Dubuque comes to mind.

Swagger is confidence.  Swagger is stepping on the field with supreme confidence and knowing that if you play as hard as you can you are going to beat the guy up against you.

Fullbacks and tight ends are still the way to go in college football.  Those positions create matchup problems, much like Wartburg used to have with Ben Thomsen.

So I haven't posted on this board in a while but all this talk about partying and performance on the field is not valid at all.  Like SK was saying, the Knight teams from 02-05 all knew how to have a lot of fun on the weekends after the game.  But he is right, the swagger is gone right now.  I don't doubt Willis can get it back but I think the Knights need that power running attack back.  Get the fullback in the backfield and run power until the cows come home.
Also, all this talk of Central having a no drinking rule is not true.  It may have been years back but not now.  I know several Central ball players from the past few years and we have had discussions about this.  It goes on at every school.

Amazing video, nice job by the NFL Network
How many students are in grades 9-12 at A-P High?

Thanks!  :)

Wow, that brought tears to my eyes.  Long way to go but things are definitely improving in P-burg.  I'm guessing there are between 250-280 kids 9-12.

I know that the kid from Marshalltown had Central's interest.  I get the impression (and no one came out and said this) but I think he wanted a scholarship.  From what I know he was the real deal and a good QB.  I think kids get it in their heads that if they don't get an athletic scholarship they aren't playing.  So for those kids they are not going to look at d3 schools they want the "paycheck" so to speak.

Edit:

That is their right to do also.  It is a shame that the whole division is looked down upon.  I am sure that MUC even has to fight that as well.

He got a schlorship fro SoutWesterm Minnesota State in MArshall Minn. its a DII school

If there kids would look hard enough to see what the final costs are, they would see that it really doesn't cost a lot more to go D3. They get hung up on that $1000 a year "athletic scholarship" that they don't look at the bottom line for total costs. For instance, how much does it cost to go to Iowa or Iowa State for 5 to 5 1/2 years to get a degree vs. 4 years at an Iowa college?

Great point.  I think that the cost of a 4 year degree from an IIAC school is approximately the same as a five year plan from an in state school.  With no financial aid from a state school it was almost a wash for my sons to attend Wartburg and Central.  Both got through in four years and both are now in grad and medical school.  There is a real value in getting through in four years IMHO.

It would have been rediculous for the kid to NOT take the scholarship to Southwest.  They are giving him quite a bit of money and I'm pretty confident they were not his only offer (plus his brother goes there).  A kid wants to go to a school where he is wanted at the highest level possible and he did just that, I don't think we can fault him for that.  A scholarship from a D2 school is a big deal because it is money, something he won't need to pay back in the future.  Most D2 kids get done with school in 4 1/2 years (obviously there are exceptions) so there is a difference financially.

Didn't know if anyone else was listening to Colin Cowherd on ESPN Radio this morning but he mentioned Wartburg in his story about USC's illegal athletes.  He said something like, " D3 athletes don't get paid.  When Wartburg plays Mt. Union in football this year none of their players will be getting paid."  Just thought that was interesting.

That's pretty cool.  As much as I don't like Cowherd that much, its still a good deal to have Wartburg mentioned on that big a stage.  Do you remember about what time you heard it?

Can't remember for sure, I was thinking between 9:30-10:30.

I'm a big fan on black on black for home uni's and white on white for away.  I also like the fact that Wartburg went back to the short black socks as opposed to the long white ones they wore when I was there.

Jared Allen=Beast.  If you have ever seen this guys in person he is a freakish athlete.  I was fortunate enough to get an on-field pass for their camp last year and got to see him close up.  Huge man that is not very nice.  It will be a great get for the Vikings IF he keeps his nose out of trouble.

10 - number of career INT's for Todd Sesker for Luther College...ranking him 10th all-time on the school list

10 - fewest TD's allowed by a Wartburg Defense in a season (2007)...school record

10 - The number of games the '07 Knights played in as opposed to the 12 games the '03 Knights played.       Technically, the both the '07 and the '03 Knight defenses gave up 10 TD's.  I still don't understand why the NCAA changed that rule a few years ago.

4- Cody Kelley and Nick Weber.  Two of the best corners to play in the conference in the last 10 years.

To answer all the questions or comments that I've missed so far:

SK-Todd Achenbach was not the fastest DB in the world, but had real good technique.

RF27-I too dropped 3 picks in a game, two of them were caught by the offense and the other I had a clear shot to the endzone that would have sealed the game.

Doolittle- On the stat padding against UD....I had the negative because I was always out by halftime  ;)

Doolittle- If you would have seen my wheels, or lack thereof, you know I would have never made a WR.

3- Todd Achenbach, the only DB I ever ran a faster 40 than.

3- # of career INTs dropped by knightlife06 that were credited as PBU's.

Correction....I had my hands on more than 3, but 3 of those passes ended up getting caught by the offense.
