I don't like to get into the reasons of why these most of these guys left...5-6 left for reasons that were talked about earlier, wanted to enjoy school, do other things, take care of school, get jobs, But in the two years I was there and after there were numerous players that left for basketball reasons. I personally loved playing for Coach Scherer he was a good coach. He is difficult to play for though and if you are not 100% willing to dedicate yourself to what he says than you will want out of his program. and a lot of good players did...Evan Arnold, Reuben Slock, Ryan Voss, Nick Larson, Joel Searby and that is during the two years I was there. I was roomates with two of these guys and I can say most of these guys were dedicated....Don't forget that even Chris Martin left the program for a year. I'm don't want to lay blame anywhere but that is a lot of talent to walk out of one program in two years at any program

Thank you for the English lesson I always find it helpful to get a refresher course on the English Language every once in a while, you know keep up with current contractions such as Might've. You are correct though this comical banter back and forth has been enjoyable, especially if you find correcting someone who makes incorrect assupmtions and then tries to cover that up with quick english lesson. If that is the case this has been totally enjoyable, and at this moment I would say I just Might've hurt my Karma...In case no one on the board knew the word or words since Might've is made up of two is MIGHT'VE.

Hoops fan I totally agree with you, There are many reasons players leave and that happeded to many of the 11 of mentioned, just didn't want to play anymore, wanted to enjoy college. I should have been more clear on the reasons for leaving.

Well look everyone another pointless non factual statement from True Basketball fan. At no point in my life have I ever quit anything or thought about quitting. Before you go and make false statements about my dedication as a player maybe you should try and find someone on this board who knows me and ask. I have kept a close relationship with the Elmhurst Basketball program being that when I was a Senior I started with 3 Freshman, so long after I was gone I had a bond with that team and due to unusual circumstances, One of the Freshman I started with just graduated this year, so I have been able to keep up with the program from the inside and over the last few years numerous players have left the Elmhurst program, or brought up serious thoughts about leaving( Even looking into other schools). I'm not saying its Coach Scherer or anything but the fact is it is happening a lot. I know people and players change and leave schools, but when I was a Senior 11 Freshman were brought into that school. 3 First team all-state players and my the time they were Seniors 1 guy was playing at Elmhurst and yes I was friends and teammates with some of these guys so you probably think my opinion is schewed...don't know if that's how you spell that....but these were not wimpy guys. I can handle if a poster comes on here and post truths with facts to back them up, but it says a lot about you to come on here and doubt my character and willingness to quit when you know nothing about me....The only thing I know is that you have no clue what you are talking about.

Well True Basketball Fan I would question your knowledge, as the poster you referenced didn't even play for Coach Baines he met him while he was the coach of the Tennis team, therefore he didn't even have the relationship you spoke of. I however played for both and played for two schools in college and I think there are many players who will admit that losing an assistant could be just as valuable as losing a head coach. Coach Baines is a great coach who has been able to keep many kids at that school who were thinking about leaving and it is not because of his GREAT BUDDY, BUDDY relationships but the ability to get through to student athletes. So if you are going to post about the traps that players get into with player, assistant coach relationships you need to get your facts straight.

I agree with the last poster, Coach Baines at Elmhurst would be a great addition to the IWU family, having played for Coach Baines at Elmhurst I can personally attest there is not a better assistant coach in the CCIW who deserves a head coaching job and although this is quite possibly the best Head coaching job in D3, he is ready for his shot and this would be his home team and he would never leave. Coach Baines is a hard worker with a lot of knowledge on the CCIW and the players in this area, It would be horrible if Elmhurst lost Coach Baines but it would also be horrible if he goes another year as an assistant Coach. Anyone who has played under him will tell you in a second he deserves and needs to be a head Coach somewhere. I know this will be a national search for a coach at IWU, but they need look no further that to one of there own. Coach Baines has already been part of a National Champion at IWU and he is the man to lead them back.
