Quote from: AndOne on February 08, 2009, 02:42:25 PMDoug Sexauer was held to 8 on 3/8 shooting,

Sexauer picked up foul #2 4 minutes into the game and sat the final 16 minutes of the 1st.  Listening to the game I felt like NCC was not able to take advantage of those 16 minutes the Titans did not have their #1 low-post scoring threat on the floor.  The Cardinals led by just 1 at halftime.

Doug played only 23 minutes last night.

Doug played very good defense last night on Drennan, especially the last several possessions. NC was getting it to Drennan every possession down the stretch and Doug responded.

Titans Fans - Simply put, a better defensive effort is the reason the team won last night. I know it's not sexy and does not get the headlines but when WE get this, we'll be better. Last night we went a little deeper in the mix, our starters were fresher in the end and got a few stops.

IWU is second in conference in offense averaging 77 pts/game. Last night they scored 77 pts.

IWU is seventh in conference in defense alllowing 78 pt/game. Last night they held NC to 71 pts. At home earlier this year NC scored 77 pts.

2 seasons ago the Titans were second in offense and eight in defense which did not make for a good season.

Last year the Titans were third in offense and fouth in defense making for a pretty good year.

Another tough Titan loss last night, WOW the CCIW is tough.

Titans are 4-9 in last 13 games vs. CCIW opponents dating back to last year and have lost 3 of last 4..Hopefully they can get things things turned around and make the conference tourney.

I'm planning some travel for March 09  that may work out for me to make the D3 final four. Can anyone tell me when that will be or reference a site with the information. I looked briefly on this site but could not find it.

Q or And One - how did Jason Bloom play? I think we are going to need his toughness and defense.

It's alway popular to talk about offense but our problem last year was stopping people. I just glanced at last year's CCIW stats. We were second in FG % and 2nd in scoring. We were 7th in points allowed and last in steals.

I know it's a hard question after only a week of practice and so many new players but did you see anything last night to make you believe we will be better defensively, more aggressive and tougher? Hopefully yes because from what Q and others have mentioned previously, we have some offensive talent that is pretty deep.

Who'd want to play in the NBA if it meant missing out on the exciting world of chartered accountancy, anyway?  ??? ;D

I think its a shame that we have to characterize basketball players by whether they have NBA ability or not.  I love the efforts put forth by CCIW basketball players, whether they be a first team D3 All-American or the 12th guy sitting on the last place team's bench.

Well written!!!!

To maximize your potential, to play the game for the love of the game, to enjoy being part of something bigger than yourself is true achievement.

Mark Twain once said, "It is better to deserve honors and not have them than to have them and not deserve them."

Congrats to Coach Rose and to IWU. Denny Bridges made a great hire. Rose is definitely qualified and being in Bloomington is an added benefit that will help him get a fast start.

I just listened to the press conference. Coach Rose is a really good coach, recruiter and person. He loves the game and is  passionate about coaching at IWU. My take is the Titans don't miss a beat and will be real tough for a long time.

Augiedad - please let us know who is accepting the IWU job. We know you know by now. Last you communicated, which has been a few days ago you hinted at Rose. Is it a done deal?

BTW, non-Titan Fan posters......the IWU FANS are not arrogant regarding this position. You'll have to look elsewhere to hang the arrogant label.

I think we had that talent-potential debate somewhere a while back.  I think they are really synonymous in this sense.  "Talent" isn't talent until it is realized.  So when we say a team has more talent, it really just means potential.  We're saying their ceiling is higher.  Whether they ever get on the ladder is another story.

I'm a long time reader, first time poster. To me talent = ability and is only a factor in determining how good a team is. Other factors include: work ethic, coaching, chemistry and good ole fashion team work.
