Actually, veteranncciw, Herb Kohl pulled the ultimate "power play" in 1995 when he told the Wisconsin AD that he would only donate money towards the new construction project IF Stan Van Gundy was fired and Dick Bennett was hired.  That's why Van Gundy was fired after 1 year (of a 5 yr contract) and Bennet was hired in '95.

Btw, the next time Bo Ryan DOESN'T whine, bitch, or cry to the refs when a foul is called on a Badger player....it will be the FIRST time in his career. What a tool!

UW-Oshkosh conducted phone interviews with 7 candidates last week. Next phase will be to bring some of those candidates on campus. Four of the candidates are head coaches with 3 currently at the collegiate level. The other 3 are assistants in college.

Here's your list of names:  http://hoopdirt.com/blog/a8ad48ac/daily-dirt-6-11-12/

This is not confirmed at this time, but I have heard that North Park head coach Dylan Howard has evidently left after just one season at NPU. As we know, Coach Howard came to North Park from D1 Mississippi Valley State, whose former head coach Sean Woods was just named the new head coach at D1 Morehead State KY. The thinking is that Howard might be leaving NPU and heading to Morehead State to rejoin Woods with whom he worked previously.

*Twocentsworth above post had not yet showed up on the board when I began typing. Nice job by him.
I therefore am evidently at least the 2nd person to hear this which seemingly makes it all the more likely that the NPU head basketball position is indeed open.
As twocentsworth indicated, perhaps Mr. Sager can confirm this.

Thanks, newCCIWfan. Nice job.

Sager....get your investigative journalist "hat" on.....sources say North Park is looking for a new head coach after Dylan Howard left.  I assume it was to an asst. job at Morehead St (KY) where his former boss, Sean Woods, just got the head job after leaving Mississippi Valley St.

Thanks for the prompt response, dansand!

Look at how few players from the list are going to D1 Illinois schools.  I believe DePaul, WIU, NIU, EIU, ISU, CSU, Loyola, and UIC all finished well below .500 this year.  SIU definitely has slipped recently since qualifying for the Big Dance several times.

as usual your post makes absolutely no sense....of the 20 players that were identified as having committed to schools, 11 of them will attend schools in Illinois (9 of them out of state).  Those that will attend non-D1 schools in Illinois will do so because they are not good enough to play at that level...NOT because the Illinois-based D1 schools are bad programs....

Benjy Taylor was looking to get back to (or at least closer to) Chicago.  His family never moved from Chicago when he left North Central.  He commuted back and forth from Terre Haute, IN (Indiana State) and New Orleans (Tulane) the last couple of years.

Clearly there have been some MAJOR issues at Chicago State that keep them from being competitive.  Despite playing as an independant, having to earn approx. $200k+ in "guarantee game fees", and having the administrative resources of a pre-school program, the do have a new on-campus arena that will help draw recruits.  Having no shot at an NCAA tourney berth is a HUGE hurdle to overcome; however Benjy is a terrific recruiter and will have plenty of Chicago-area players to draw from.

Keelan is a good enough shooter to play in the NBA, especially with his height.  The real issue will be whether or not he has the ability to create his own shot at the NBA level.  There's a big jump from d3 to the NBA, but one workout can do wonders for you.  Look at the career Devean George has put together.

Everyone should slow down here on the "Keelan in the NBA talk"....this is definitely a "who you know" situation.

NBA teams routinely need players to participate in workouts and minicamps to fill-out spaces.  This occurred several years ago with Jason Wiertel at Carthage - the Bucks had him up to workout with 11 other players.  Wiertel and Keelan are "space fillers"....they get the chance to play in front of NBA coaches and get some workout gear and a "attaboy".....

Please keep in mind that Devan George had NBA physical talent - just not the skills (which he has certainly improved in the last several years).  The overwhelming majority of D3 guys do not have the NBA talent - although they may be skilled enough in several areas.

Just don't make too much out of this: yes it's a great opportunity for Keelan; yes it's partly based on his impressive 4yr accomplisments; but it's primarily based on the "connections" that he has to the Bucks coaching staff......

I'm pretty sure that's what I said.  He's quite suspect in his ability to create his own shot at the NBA level, but if you're looking for a big guard with decent handle and a very good outside shot, he could fit the bill.  Today's NBA is made up on guys with one weapon, that's why we're so amazed with the stars who can do a lot of things well.  I think there is a place for a 6-6 outside shooter, I just don't know if the right people will get a chance to see him work out.

the only people that will see him workout are the Bucks coaches/staff -- that's probably because he's not NBA material.  He's a very, very good college player - he's just not: quick enough, athletic enough, strong enough, can't dribble it well enough, will have trouble creating his own shot, have trouble guarding on the perimeter, and lacks experience playing the shooting guard position (I could go on but you get my drift).

don't get me wrong here - i wish i was as talented or accomplished as much when i played as keelan.  it would have been an honor to work out with NBA-caliber players for an NBA staff like keelan.  there's nothing wrong with being asked to participate in a workout to be a "body" instead of a potential signee. i'm just saying that is what happened here....
