Bowdoin?? did you forget the 1/2 mile nature hike over rocks and tree roots it took for the visiting team to get to the field?? By the time you make it to the wooded enclave, you have lost 2 players to sprained ankles and another one to a pack of wild wolves.

Hamilton vs. Wesleyan - week 2. Thats a huge game, I heard theres a chance it will be on the YES network. Word is that bullfrog will be doing color commentary. In fact, they should just have that be the last game... could you imagine the pressure on the seniors from both of those teams to get that one lonely win and not go 0 for the season.

When you get all you want and you struggle for self,
and the world makes you king for a day,
then go to the mirror and look at yourself
and see what that man has to say.
For it isn't your mother, your father or wife
whose judgement upon you must pass,
but the man, whose verdict counts most in your life
is the one staring back from the glass.
He's the fellow to please,
never mind all the rest.
For he's with you right to the end,
and you've passed your most difficult test
if the man in the glass is your friend.
You can fool the whole world,
down the highway of years,
and take pats on the back as you pass.
But your final reward will be heartache and tears
if you've cheated the man in the glass.

In 14 years of playing organized football, I played on some very good teams and some very bad teams. I have played on teams that overachieved and teams that underachieved. I cannot say that I have never been associated with a program that has had the same sort of wild success that Trinity recently has. I can say that I expect from my personal best from myself at whatever I do, whether it be in the office or on a football field. I have never blamed a teammate, a coach, or an opposing team for my own shortcomings or the shortcomings of my own team. For all of its problems, I love nescac football because it represents qualities that I admire. I believe that the sport was created to have been played in the nescac. It is a highly competitive league. Every single game counts. I feel that it is also a league that values qualities such as honor, integrity, strong work ethic. Sure I have been jealous of the success that Trinity has had, who wouldn't be? But rather than crying about their recruiting practices, I actually respect them more and hope that my college can learn something from them. I actually watched a fairly lengthy documentary on the Trinity-Williams game and there were some things that I took away from that insider look that my team never did and that probably would have been helpful. Mostly, I was struck by the amount of preparation that Trinity puts in during the week. I couldn't help but admire them. Furthermore, the fact that Trinity's coaching staff puts in the extra effort to recruit nationally is highly admirable. I might submit that a large amount of their success has come from the fact that they are willing to recruit nationally. Its a fact of life that kids from warmer climates get to practice and play all year round and end up being better football players. It doesn't mean that they are dumber and not worthy of attending a nescac school, only that Priore and his coaching staff as well as Trinity college were willing to make extra efforts to improve their team. Basically bullfrog I don't have much respect for you right now because you don't seem to value the same qualities that I think define this conference.

bullfrog aka sonofbullfrog aka 'Mr. Only TR alums can poke fun at me'.... I'm just giving you a hard time because I thought you mentioned that you were a nescac coach and it seems that you and Mr. Barnard share a lot of the same views. I personally am convinced that you are one in the same and I thought it was very ironic that you disappeared from this board around the time that Barnard left Williams.  And please don't pull that 'Only TR alums can give me a hard time' bs because we all know you don't coach there. Why don't you ask Devaney to hire you and then maybe they'll let you caddy for them at one of the bi-weekly alumni golf tournaments. Maybe they'll even let you wash their balls.

I was just reading  some of the NEFC board due to the lack of activity here.... does anyone else throw up in their mouth just a little every time they think about an NEFC team getting a playoff bid? I read over there that Curry and Endicott should be battling it out for that spot. Last time I checked, Endicott was playing nescac JV's.

just checking my websites.....

I actually wanted to read about Roger Goodell and stumbled across that. Also, its sad that Clarrett is making top headlines with yet another arrest..... once again I am proud to be affiliated with D3.

espn.com is reporting that there will be some rule changes in college football this year regarding the game clock:
The first one has to do with instant replay, and obviously only effects D1-A (although NESCAC ref's could really really really benefit from instant replay)

The second one has to do with kickoffs and first downs: "According to Rule 3-2-5, the game clock will start as soon as the ball is kicked in a kickoff situation. Previously, the clock would only start once the receiving team touched the ball. In addition, Rule 3-2-5-e states that, after a team gets a first down, the clock will begin running again on the ready-for-play signal. Previously, the clock did not resume until the team snapped the ball."

Also, halftime will apparently be shortened.

I am assuming these rules will take place throughout NCAA (including nescac).... as an offensive player, I personally don't like these rule changes, especially the first down rule.... it completely changes the two-minute-drill (my favorite part of football). What do you guys think? The rules committee says they did this to shorten 4 hour games, but the nescac doesnt play 4 hour games! instead of changing the game, they could have cut some tv timeouts. Personally I see this as yet another indication that NCAA football isn't about the game or the student/athletes, its all about the endorsements. It makes me proud to be affiliated with D3.

My favorite is Hamilton vs. Colgate... it would probably be about as bad as Tufts vs. BC, but everything about Hamilton amuses me at this point.

It would be extremely rare for a nescac varsity team to scrimmage anyone other than another nescac ( I don't even know if the league allows it), let alone a d1AA, I suppose it could be possible... maybe they are scrimmaging Dartmouth JV or something?? In other news: Amherst will be scrimmaging UMASS, Trinity vs. UConn, Colby vs. UMaine, Tufts vs. BC, and Hamilton vs. Colgate

not to mention the fact that most teams will run only their base plays on both sides of the ball, especially now that some of the teams play the team they scrimmage in the regular season.

That Sept. 16 scrimmage is coming up soon..... is this the 'calm before the storm'???

When you click on the pre-season all-americans link on the front page, and from there click on the "D3football.com Top 25" link on the left side of the page, different rankings appear than the if you would click on the same link on the front page... if that makes any sense. For that reason, I (and I think Dirtybirds) assumed that it was the preaseason rankings because Trinity is 29th in voting as opposed to 25 at the end of last season.

In other words.. http://www.d3football.com/top25/ is the link that is available on this page: http://www.d3football.com/tow/06/preallamericans.htm
