I recognize that CLU's poor performance at CMS hurts not only them, but also Oxy, at this juncture.  I just think it is unfair to them, and Oxy, to lump the Kingsmen in with LaVerne

really? La Verne did just beat a team that Cal Lu lost to this past weekend.  Sure the Kingsmen took it to the Leo's, maybe they blew their wad too early.  Cal Lu had potential to be a playoff team, but potential really doesn't mean anything in football.  So ya they deserve to be "lumped" with La Verne and Colorado, lumped into a category of teams who didn't meet their potential.

The backup Martinez guided the Leo's to victory, but Doolittle came in to finish the job when Martinex got hurt.  It was good game, CMS has some athletes on the offensive side of the ball.

Hats off to Whittier for the win, no doubt they EARNED it.  What the Poets and Sagehens lack in skill, they makeup with heart.  I'm glad for Whittier.

How about the SCIAC this year?  With the exception of Oxy, it was a pretty crazy year with some interesting outcomes.  Good luck to Oxy in the playoffs.

As for the Leo's,  lets take it to the Panthers once again...

one more thing about the whole cut block thing, defenders get to tackle low and take out players knees, the cut block is an offensive players response to that.  Football is physical, people get hurt, cutting is part of the game and its pretty cool to see a well executed cut.  Hi-Lo'ing a player is not cool at all.

Congrats to Oxy for moving up in the polls.  As for the Oxy-ULV game, the first drive showed promise maybe a repeat of last years game, however the rest did not fair well.  You can't turn the ball over 6 times and win especially to a top ten team.  Look for the Leo's to win out though, I think they have it in them.

The Leos sure have their work cut out for 'em.  If they don't turn the ballover 4 times as they did against UPS, then maybe it'll be a better game.  Tough one for the Leos and the Bulldogs as well.

Oxy will rool, Pomona v. L&C could be kinda interesting as the Cal Lu game should be too.  Good luck to all the SCIAC teams, hopefully the Leos and Redlands get their offenses clicking and a set QB

Oh and EastCoastStag, how many people really get stabbed in La Verne? it is right next to Claremont...

Oxy has championship rings?  For what......winning the SCIAC?  What a waste of metal.

ouch man, i don't understand why you would say that.  A lot of conferences give championship rings for a conf. championship whether its the PAC-10, Sun Belt, SCIAC, whatever. Point being a conference championship is a conference championship, regardless of the level, who pays for the ring, playoff success, etc.  I don't know about the whole watches thing though....

As to the Celts..............in 2004 they had St. Bonnie (#1 team in the st) beat.

CA football doesn't have an official state ranking system dgd, and if they did I'm pretty sure that St. Bonaventure would not be #1 in the state over perennial powerhouse schools like Mater Dei, De La Salle, LB Poly, etc.  When it comes down to it, the Crespi teams of the last couple years have been a big fish in a small pond.  Div-X football isnt all that great and the jump to D-1 is pretty big.  I'm pretty sure that they won't be winning a Div-1 championship anytime soon, unless your boy comes back for a fifth year at QB...

Congrats to Collins for making the Pre-Season All-American team, thats awesome.

Any Redlands posters know who's runnin the rock this year?  I remember last year that little guy ran pretty well, but he's not coming back is he?

If the kid from Crespi HS does go to Redlands, he will make an impact.  He is 6'3" about 235 and is a beast.

I was checkin this dude out yahoo and it says he's 6'3" 205lbs.  I mean he might have gained some weight but 30lbs?  I guess what I'm gettin at is don't build him up too much and lie about height and weight granted he may not be 205 but I don't think he is 235 lbs.

Maybe one the Oxy posters out there can answer this for me...

What would happen if Andy Collins got injured?  I would never wish injury upon anybody, but realistically its part of the game especially at QB.  Is the Goltz guy a legitimate backup?  What about Philip Guerrero?

Also, who is gonna fill the void left by Josh Jones?

Dgd,

Of course Oxy recruits for athletics, as does La Verne, Redlands, Whittier, and every SCIAC team or D-III for that matter.  It is legal to recruit, after all it is college football.  What is not legal is giving financial aid based on athletic ability.  This isn't high school anymore, recruiting is okay, its necessary and part of the game at this level.

ya it is, my bust tmerton, good looking out though.  Humboldt St. is a D-II School.  Thanks for the correction.

Someone a couple posts back asked about the Leos QB situation.  From what I know, the frontrunner is APU transfer Troy Doolittle who supposedly was in the hunt for the job last year, but Guerrero pulled ahead before the beginning of the season.

Another option for the Leos might be a JC transfer from Glendale JC who supposedly was the MVP of that conference.

dgd, as for the whole recruiting thing, I know some D-III schools back east are public, therefore they are less expensive.  Also recruits here on the west coast have options such such as non-scholarship 1-AA program USD, NAIA schools like APU and Humboldt St., and 1-AA schools like Davis who take from the pool of quality players who would otherwise might settle for a D-III school.

For example, The UW system has UW-Madison, aka the Badgers, that is 1 D-1 Program while the rest of the UW system are D-III schools and pretty much make up their own conference.

CA recruits usually have a lot of options and most desire to play at the highest level their ability can take them.  At least Redlands has good facilities to lure recruits. La Verne is just starting to upgrade their facilities to bring in more recruits.

Hey uhh I never came after Redlands or Oxy, I know La Verne has not beat Redlands for quite some time and hasn't beat Oxy since 2002.  My last post was in regards to dgd trying to take on Linfield before even getting through the SCIAC.  I respect Redlands, they have a fine program.  Now don't get me wrong I don't like Redlands at all, hated playing against Redlands, but I do know that it is a good program.

Anyways though, La Verne does have a shot.  They have a good group of core returners looking to fill the void from last years senior class.  La Verne is definitely coming up from the 1-8 season a while back.

Once last thing, OxyOswald you know that Oxy/La Verne game was a hell of a game for 3 quarters, too bad the Leos couldn't put it together in the 4th.  Maybe 2006 will be different? It will be fun to see...

dgd,

When a Redlands QB goes to the NFL, then you can bash top ten teams.  Too bad your Wabby kid is only freshman and not eligible for the draft yet.  I'd stay off of Linfield, seriously the cats would smash the dogs.  Try and beat Cal Lu before you take on Oxy or Linfield.
