In our game against you, Tully did what he does.  Got a lead and didn't risk turnovers.  He lined up in Double Tight-Double Wing, or just Double Tight and you put 9 guys in the box and continued to run (not effectively I mind you), said that once before.  When he spreads things out, he likes to mix up the run and pass game, you can't put 9 guys in the box when we run 4 WR's out there...well you could I guess, but then our WR's might look alittle better when they are running uncovered.

And yes, I did mean by them not being All-Americans...Any downgrade is a + for a Linfield opponent.

2 words:  Adam Anderson

Not sure how good your WR's need to be if people put 8 in the box to try and stop him, I think having him will make our WR's better just from a scheme stand point.  We have some kids who have played significantly the last two years that haven't had a lot of balls thrown to them (Stockton/Hannon).  Good:  they know the game speed, very familiar with the sytem  Bad:  maybe balls haven't been thrown to them because they aren't open.  Don't sleep on Andy Largent, should be a good one for the next couple years.  When we get into our single back, 9 TE set you will see we have some depth their too :)

I know that the Whitworth coaches really wanted Boehme, I remember following the all-state game his senior year.  Not always common for the 3A/4A state game MVP to go to D-III, so he obviously comes with some accolades, but you do have to get guys open for him to put up some stats (unless you get some transfers, this WR core could end up being one of the worst you've had in awhile).  With that being said, you've been pretty fortunate the past few years.  That kid is a great example of someone who would have really benefited from being able to redshirt.

Any chance that rule gets reversed any time soon, it is absolutely rediculous?

Just trying to change the subject to something else that we have no control over.

Pineconefan,

Yeah that was it...Don't know why that would be made up or how it would appear out of nowhere.  Anyways, nice spelling by me on "allaborate."  Thank you Whitworth for the fine education, proud two time member of the academic all west region team somehow ;D

Yet Linfield still plays Western Oregon and Southern Oregon, is it that difficult to make a schedule without playing these teams?

You should stick to things you can control, like winning games.

...or, "If you can't beat them, arrange to have them beaten." ;)

Is George Carlin the head coach for the OXY Tigers, becuase that seems to be what he does when he schedules non-conference opponents?

Question:  Is it bad a bad thing that my karma is creeping up to my # of post?   ;D

It has taken over a week, the shock has past, the dissapointment is still there.  I have read/heard some interesting things since Whitworth's snubbery, but there really is nothing anyone can do to change it.

The worst thing:  The Pirate seniors who truly expected (like many others) that they were going to be playing last weekend.

The best thing:  As long as the conference stays where it is at, there will never again be a time (atleast in the near future) when a Conference Champion will not be going to the playoffs.

A few questions:  should Whitworth/any other D-III team ever schedule a game against a team that gives scholarships (Azusa), because there is no benefit to playing a team where a loss (like in this case) hurts you way more than a win can help you.  All I know is that if Whitworth schedules the Mexican School of the Blind instead of Azusa they go to the playoffs.

Heard an interesting story about the Redlands coach, before I allaborate was wondering if Coach Maynard and Coach Smith were on a committee together at some point this year (West Region Coach's or something along those lines)?

BTW:
I think it took Whitworth awhile to find its identity after losing Allan and Clark and realizing what it had in Anderson and Frosh DB Derek Stottlemyer (future 1st teamer for sure, but since they take 8 1st teamers at every position, I'd say my chances are high) which led them to putting in their Dime package that Whitworth used towards the end of the season.  I know the point is moot, but would have liked to see the BullDogs and Pirates really play again.

It was truly a pleasue watching those seniors on that defense the past two years absolutely dominate the NWC, it seems the staff has done a very solid job of reloading some kids in there who were able to contribute on that side of the ball as well.  To lose possibly the two most talented players in the league (Clark and Allan) and repeat as NWC Champs is one hell of an accomplishment.

Next year should be pretty interesting...we do know that A NWC team will be in the playoffs FOR SURE, which is atleast something to not have to worry about.

dt48,

thankyou for giving me some comic relief on what otherwise has become a very depressing day.

The touchdown that Scharer threw that counted happened to be to a Whitworth DB, that was the problem...Anyways, off to the game, heard there should be a decent contingent of former players at the game, so heres to a few orange crush's afterwards.

With first quarter grades done, and the high school football season over it is good to be back on board.  May not be the favorite or most consistent of the Whitworth posters, but still love the crimson and black.  There have been a few things brought up recently that I wanted to touch on.  Financial Aid packages...I think it is much more common for Linfield to put together a better financial aid package than Whitworth (friends could have gone their for cheaper, my personal recruits said linfield was cheaper, and you have a freshman now that said Linfield was 6 grand cheaper (so don't think you can use that as an excuse for issues of recruiting).  I don't necessarily believe that there is that big of a problem at Linfield either, you were one 4th down stop away from beating Willamette and you ran into a defense at Whitworth that has been playing together for 4 years (if you score one TD you basically win).  Whitworth broadcaster is Bob Castle, and yes he does a phenomenal job.  I also think he does a pretty good job of not being so homerish in his game calling as well, Whitworth is very lucky to have him.

Great to have the BUCS come to the westside for a nice 30-40 minute commute so that I can watch them in person and listen to the Logger PA guy.  They have played us tough in years that we were more skilled, hope that isn't the case tomorrow.  Interesting to see what the Loggers look like after life without Rory Lee (who put up some big stats against us in the past).

GO BUCS 28-7, into the playoffs...(unless someone has their head up their a$$)

Its funny that some of you Linfield fans are so offended by those comments, because I took that quote straight from one of you guys.  2001 when you guys beat us and biglin threw 5 ints, someone said the exact same thing about him, it was meant to be a comical joke.  Please don't be a pansy and relax.

Since the issue of class was brought up recently...

I heard Scharer tried to shoot himself after the game, but...
the bullet was intercepted by Phil Entel of the Whitworth Pirates.    ;)

Synopsis of the game...
D-Line out played the Linfield O-Line
Clifton showed why he was the reigning Defensive MVP of the league
Two phenomenal defenses (both laid some hat)
There were wide open receivers for both teams and QBs missed them
Thought the Wildcats play calling was suspect (went away from the bubble screen out of twins in the 2nd half...your best play)
I felt like punching myself in the face while I watched the Whitworth offense run 1 play the 2nd half...kudos to Linfield for absolutely dominating us defensively
Tully did what he does, conservative play calling that drives people nuts, but wins football games (no turnovers)
GREAT DAMN WIN FOR THE BUCS

I'll be there next week in Tacoma
