Hola ...Pride Alum...my first post...and a question...
One of my classmates says he hears that the admin is pondering a move upward into D2 within the next 3-5 years. This is a persistant rumor because I heard it last year. I find it kind of interesting that we kick off the season with D2 S.A.C. member Mars Hill.
Could we be headed to the S.A.C.? That conference itself is facing some upheaval with the departure of Presbyterian College (Clinton, SC) for D-1AA's Big South Conference in 2007. Besides Mars Hill other members of the S.A.C. are Carson Newman (near Knox. TN), Catawba (Salisbury, NC), Wingate (Wingate, NC), Lenoir Rhyne (Hickory, NC), Newberry (Newberry SC) and Tusculum (east TN)
Considering the cost involved with football scholarships in D2 and upgrades in equipment, stadium and added personel would the change benefit us?
It is also interesting to note that 3 new football program startups will commence with the 2007 year in NC and none are D3. They are Campbell, UNC-Pembroke and Brevard. This fact alone gives reason to consider the rumor as reliable since our selection of opponents is already very limited and liable to decrease rather than increase.
