Region 3 football (South Atlantic-ish) / Curious
February 23, 2008, 07:36:13 PM
Just heard that an Averett assistant was leaving to be an assistant at Methodist. Was curious if anyone has examples of losing a coach to another staff in conference. Also wonder how big of an advantage you think that gives Methodist over Averett.

kickerdad - how is the boy?

kickerdad - I did see the game Sat. Made me want to put my hands over my eyes. The problem could be a bunch of things but I think when you're that bad it is more than likely a little bit of everything. I can say this, I think Coach D and his staff have a good idea what it takes to build a winner. I'm going to sit tight and support through this season. But I do wish they were better b/c I love defending them and talking junk to others about them - but now there isn't anything to say. I check out the boards everyday but good grief I can't do anything but complain about this season and I don't want to turn on the team or the staff.

Region 3 football (South Atlantic-ish) / What??

You're leaving Post Patterns b/c CNU (in your opinion) showed bad sportsmanship?? I'm missing the connection. What upsets me the most is I'd like to talk smack to you if Averett gets their first, and maybe only, win against the Pride.

kickerdad - not sure i follow you. granted, I haven't seen them play this year but your first comment was "dumb mistakes", then you ranted about everything from technique to special teams to coaching. I'm not really saying either way because I haven't seen it first hand. is it dumb mistakes or is it a complete trainwreck? If it is as bad as you say then doesn't it have to be b/c of the lost players? The coaching staff isn't that much different is it?

Region 3 football (South Atlantic-ish) / Fan Poll

FYI - fan poll released - 2 USA South teams in the top ten - not sure I agree but neat for the conference!

Region 3 football (South Atlantic-ish) / Here we go!

OK - honest, unpopular opinion #1 for 2007 (that will cost me karma no doubt). Why are NCW and their QB getting so much love? Granted I've only seen them play once (last year vs. AU) but the QB basically lost that game with poor play at the end of the game so I left with a bad taste in my mouth. I think a team (and QB) ready to take that next step beats last year's Averett team at home. What's different about them now?  Give me CNU all day.

Let me preface this by saying that I DID NOT see any of this - I'm going off what i've been told - but Thomas' defense got Ferrum beat in the South Region Championship game and almost got them beat the game before. All Americans make plays in big games, not errors. I don't know if the regional tournament stats were taken into consideration or not.

I actually think in terms of bracketing that 7 teams is simpler than 6.

The only problem is that one team doesn't have to play in the first round and that is, at least theoretically, a big advantage.

That's why they have SEEDS! If seeding isn't an advantage they should just draw numbers out of a hat.

BTW  - I'm a USAC fan and this standard bracket wouldn't help them a bit but it seems like having scenerios is crazy.

What would a "simple" double-elimination bracket for seven teams look like?

Glad you asked!

G1 - 4/5
G2 - 6/3
G3 - 7/2

G4 W1/1
G5 W2 / W3
G6 L2/L3

G7 L1/L5
G8 L4/W6
G9 Winner's bracket final
G10 W7 / W8
G11 W10 / L9

12 and 13 - finals

South Region / HOLY CONFUSING BRACKET!!!
May 14, 2007, 05:14:07 PM
Could this be anymore confusing or flat out dumb???

http://www.ferrum.edu/athletics/Baseball/NCAA-regional-07/index.htm

What ever happened to a simple 7 team double elimination bracket? If the concern is fairness - ISN'T that the reason for seeding? I'm not any type of expert but this creates all kinds of problems of not knowing when a team will play next or who they'll play against until that days games are complete.

somebody get me straight!

The whole reason this came up was because I said they squashed the conspiricy theory. I was saying that stuff jokingly - I'm not making any accusations. It sure did stir a heck of a response out of you though :-)

I'm sure Shelton would have shut Ferrum down again if they met in the tournament.

BTW

NCWC crushed Ferrum the second time they met in the tournament

I agree 100% about Shelton. Good point. I guess if NCWC would have defeated MC on Saturday that would have been much more unfortunate - I guess unfair. And I'm assuming you mean that NCWC crushed Averett not Ferrum.
