That was a harsh comment directed toward #3 on Luther squad. I was mere yards from the hit at that point, it was a poor call by the side judge (yes, I am a Norse Fan, but speaking as a football fan). Luther had a chance to respond a few plays later but was unable to respond.

Just wanted to stop in and say hello to everyone. I don't spend a lot of my time posting, but I think that almost everyone on the site speaks with a great deal of insight. I have followed the IIAC closely since the fall of '99. The basis for my post at this point is two-fold.
First, I am going to be making the trip from the Minneapolis/St Paul area to Stevens Point for this weekends game. (hopefully return in time to get a ticket to the Minnesota/Iowa game). As much as it pains me to say, I hope the knights can pull out a win. I hope I can see great game and maybe enjoy an adult beverage with a few fans from Wavetown.
Secondly, I would like to reflect a little on this year in the IIAC. I was speaking to another observer early in the year, may have been after the first week of conference play. We came to the conclusion that unlike most years there was no team that was a clear cut favorite, even stating that winner would have two losses. We were thinking at that point that there could be a surprise team that represent the IIAC in the playoffs. However, fast forward to the end of the year and traditional conference power survived the balanced conference, which is testament to there ability to find a way win.
I believe it was thunderbolt who previously suggested the youth at Quarterback played an integral role in the conferences struggles. I would say I concur with his assessments on youth being a factor. However, I very slightly by stating the nature of the college game has evolved over that past few years. The game is now more dependent of the Quarterbacks ability to win you few games rather simply managing. Look at the past few years in the IIAC, Connell (sp) was difference maker, who had the ability to make a big play when needed. I witnessed the same thing in the MIAC this year. Yordi had a solid season, but was clearly was not at that level. The future is bright for many of the young Qb's i saw in action this season. As an offensive minded guy, I await the future.

WAC,
The best and only way from minneapolis to decorah is two drive down highway 52. Upon leaving MSP airport take highway 5 west until your arrive at the 494 interchange, take 494 east until the you see the exit for highway 52 south. Once you enter 52, it will take you all the way to decorah. Highway 52 will be four lanes until just south of rochester, from there the drive is a two lane highway. That is the best way from MSP to decorah. If you have any questions just ask.

Good win for the Johnnies today! Looks like the D is stepping it up! Good Luck vs. WW this weekend!
The Montana Grizzly game was absolutely awesome! I think the Louisiana boys had some trouble with the temp and snow! I think it was in the teens all game long. The Griz dominated all game long, it was fun to watch!
Even MT State won today over Fuhrman. However, Carroll College lost 14-7 to St. Xavier ending their season and a chance at a 5th consecutive Nat'l title!
I was in attendance at the Montana State Game. Very good day for the Cats who also won in a dominating performance. The game was never close.
Congrats to the Johnnies as well.

I believe that Upper Iowa left the conferance and played an IIAC schedule for a year (maybe two) after making the jump to Division II. It had something to do with contractual obligations.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.

question to anyone present at the Luther - Simpson game. What was your honest opinion of the pearson fumble that led to a touchback? It sounded over the radio that Hefty was upset with the officials call, and that is out of character. By no means is that an excuse and none will be provided, as a loss is a loss.

Beavers win in OT - 30-27! 3 game winning streak!
Kemmerer kicks a 47 yarder in OT for the win...did I mention it's nice to have a great kicker?
Having a good kicker is key, but as my previous post states the blame clearly lies on the inability of the offense to score td's. congrats to BV, they won as a team.

Somehow someway the Norse need to find a way to win the next three games. From my perception, let me know if i am wrong, the norse have played to the ability of the team they were playing. Points is they could have won, or had the opportunity to win each of the losses but they haven't. No excuses, but the red zone woes have been the down fall of the season. They have made 34 trips to the red zone, and have scored on 70.6% of the trips. Not good, especially when you consider they have scored td's on fewer than 50% of those trips. On the other side of the ball they have allowed 25 red zone trips and give up scores on 76%. not entirely bad. But, the offense has td's on 15 of 34 trip and the defense has allowed 14 td's in 25 trips. Even though the offense has been able to move the ball quite freely between the 20's for wins to occur the lack of red zone td's must be addressed.

Another OT game. Another game where we got out gained again. The radio announcer was soooooo right. That block in the back was a huge blunder. The block did not even need to be thrown. It would have made no difference. It was the correct call but the kid from Luther should have not thrown it. The Norse did a good job mixing it up all day. In the end the Dutch D stopped them when they needed to.
The only thing I was surprised about was after the blocked punt the Norse went for it on 4th down. I guess Luther's coach didn't have confidence in the kicker.
Dutchfan were you at the Game? I just watched video that my family (all luther alums) sent me, and I have watched the blocked punt over and over. There are no appearant blocks on the play let alone blocks in the back. The only contact after the block is the central punter takling a Norse as he tries to pick up the ball. If you saw something different let me know. just curious
I just state this because it may have not been the correct call. Regardless, the call was made and Human Error is part of the game. The call had no bearing on the outcome, because both teams had opportunies to make plays down the stretch and the Dutch made one more play.
As for this week, Luther gets a win. It has been far too long since the Norse beat BV, time to stop the streaks.

Personally the IIAC conference gives to much credit to average yards per punt, rather than other more important punting statistics. Such as punts inside the 20 (or 10) or net yards per punt. Wait I spoke to soon, according to IIAC stats punts inside the 20 are not even recorded

Why is the issue of throwing on 3rd down such a big deal. Was it an ideal call, probably not (not in my mind). But, the game played for 60 minutes, therefore you play to win until the game is in doubt (in this scenario both the Knights and Norse did what they thought was best). Chances are good Wartburg has to punt if they run the ball, so why not throw the ball if you have confidence in getting the first down. In my mind the knights were not trying to run up the score, rather just playing 60 minutes of football and beating the Norse.
