That's going to hurt recruiting just a little!! What parent wants to send their kid to a school and program like that  ??? Not sure how good the baseball was but I don't foresee it being good for years to come

In case you're in the mood for an NFL Films type video, here is a clip from the UD/Simpson game.

pretty freakin' sporty...love what my school is doing academically and with our football program...it's easy to be proud of the school Dubuque has become...

Agree, great video and even better University  ;) Regardless of the outcome this year, GO SPARTANS!! There will continue to be bright days ahead in the SPARTAN NATION!

Willie....
If you disagree with my assessment of UD defense as limp for a top contender, please look at the overall defensive stats (prior to today's game who have not seen).  I think you will find I,m right on. :)

Stats don't tell the whole story. All I am saying is IMHO, the defense is better then UD defenses of previous seasons. The difference has been sloppy football at times(turnovers, penalties, not scoring when we should have).

It's no consolation for being a contender but whooping up on Loras today helps to take the sting away  ;) There is still only one sheriff in this town  ;D

Picks

Simpson at Central. Grudge match.  DUTCH should win but not by much.

UD at Loras.  Thought UD was going to be a contender but the defense falls flat on their face too much. Still Loras will be short on the board.  UD

Coe at Luther.  Out on a limb......Luther defense toughens up and backs smear up with "stick'em on their fingers......Luther.

Warts at BV.  Knights are the better team.......but their mid-season HEX strikes.  Bobby Brown embarrasses Warts.  BV

I really don't understand your logic  ??? This is at least the 2nd comment you have made about UD's defense being the reason for their lack of success. I would disagree completely. The defense this year is probably the best all around defense the Spartans have fielded in a while. I would say the Spartans haven't been as successful do to turnovers and missed opportunities to score (offense). I believe you are a Luther fan so if that is what you are basing your opinion on then I understand. That clearly was the UD defense's worst performance of the year without question.

If the Spartans could get those turnovers back in multiple games and score more points, they could easily be 4-3 or 5-2 right now instead of 2-5. But, such is life. I just hope for a strong finish.

I have thought about the BV-Wartburg game and have mixed feelings. I don't think BV is close to as complete a team as wartburg is.

However, with the perfect "storm"  ;D and playing at home in what could be the biggest game in BV's recent history, they may keep it closer then anyone would expect.

And Wartburg has been known to get tripped up about this time of the year in past seasons. I don't think it's likely but anything is possible.

Notlongago, I may not like everything you say but you are pretty spot on with most stuff  ;)

A nail biter at Chalmers field tonight! Got to give that win to the defense! Offense played well at times but the defense and especially DB's came away with some amazing plays. Pacific is no joke. Hard to believe they were a start up program 4 years ago and last year close losses to Linfield and Pac Lu. They may have graduated a big senior class but they have plenty of talent left. I hope the young man from pacific they took out on the stretcher is OK. That was a scary hit.

I think a few things are obvious so far:

Simpson is still good....possibly even better  ???
wartburg is really good even though it aches me to say it
luther is definitely better although competition isn't anything to write home about
had loras beat auggie tonight, I would say they are also greatly improved, I'll give them improved for sure. Seems coach olsen has opened up the playbook a little and they discovered the passing game  ;)
coe---really not sure yet; I think they will be tough but not sure how tough at this point
central- same boat...no clue what to expect at this point; today only helped the stat books
BV could be in for a long season
and my Spartans........they'll be in every ball game; their defense is no joke...looking forward to conference play

From the Spartan Nation ... OUCH!!! ???

Ouch is probably a safe assessment. It was a tough start for the Spartans. Hats off to UW-Lacrosse, they came out ready to play and have some playmakers for sure. But, you certainly can't expect to turn the ball over on your first 4 possessions and expect to win many games. And I believe 6-7  ??? total turnovers. That was the dagger. Had Blaine Snitker's (Waukon IA) interception return for a TD not been called back because of a meaningless penalty, the comeback attempt would have been within reach.

On the flip side, I was impressed with how the defense responded being put in awful situations all night. I think the offense will improve for sure and the defense will give us a chance in every game.

Possibly the biggest test of the season coming up this weekend at platteville :o After UWP's dismantling of the Beavers, the spartans better come ready to play and hang on to the ball!  ;)

I am sure the Spartan's realize this but I'd rather play any of the UW schools and even in a loss they will be better prepared for the IIAC then playing cupcakes from some of the other conferences  ;D

GO SPARTANS!

That photo makes them look like goon balls and maybe should have hit the weight room harder if they have to cross their arms to make them look big  ;D ;D ;D

Everyone is hush hush this year  :-X :-X

Either no one has anything to talk about or are being cautious about bragging up their team until after the 1st game  ??? ???

Doolittle is in temporary retirement. It may take some encouragement but I don't think he can stay retired all season  ;) ;)

GO SPARTANS!!
