Union hasn't scored a point in nearly a month while Patches runs around in circles overthrowing people. My hunch is that any frustration is mutual.

Things didn't end too pretty between Ithaca and Union last year either as Patches O Houlihan's brother cheap shotted IC's qb out of the victory formation. Chaos ensued. The North remembers.

Brian Angelichio was a very very good O-Coordinator in the Felicetti years. Was a clear step down when he left and started folllowing Greg Schiano around the NFL.  I see he's with the Vikings now, and has been interviewed by a few teams for O-Coordinator positions.  Good stuff.

Looks like fate will end up giving Cortland the home game they always deserved...

Unkind to send Cortland on the road. I know at least one common opponent they had with Endicott...

Here's to a Union/Bombers dream rematch at Butterfield in three weeks time. What fun that would be!

- Ejecting one of our best defenders on a non existent targeting call isn't very nice. Tough for the team and brutal for the student. Maybe best not to have those sorts of outcomes without the benefit of clear targeting on replay?  That hurt.

Bombers felt like they were running from behind from the first quarter on.... Cut it to a one possession game, Cortland scores and extends it back to two possessions
Over and over and over.... Constant catch up. To the offense's credit, every possession in the second half felt like a must score and I think they did...

A few thoughts... more to come I'm sure:

- Boyes indeed the best player on the field. His 77% completion percentage is no joke, and he lived up to it today. No Yankee Stadium choke. He was totally in control.

- Twice Boyes fumbled, and twice Cortland still benefitted from a big play on it. Picked it up and threw one for 15 yards on third down. The other on 3 and 4 or so....
Ball snapped too early. Could have been a ten yard loss, instead he scrambled it to a 4th and 2. Best to be good and a bit lucky.

- Play of the game when Cortland decided to go for it from their own 30 following that last play. Up a score, 4th quarter. Gutsy and it worked.

-  Poor kickoff and coverage following TD in 4th really hurt. Had tons of momentum and was going to be a wild defensive series. Instead they get a 70 yard return and start from our ten.  Ouch.

- Great day for Schumm. Made all the passes, showed great feel in the pocket, can flick it 40 yards downfield with ease.... His WRs made a couple of amazing plays but he gave them an opportunity to make those plays. Can move well. Really only one ill  advised pass I can think of when he threw across the field into quadruple coverage. Oops. Handled the day great for a guy with three starts against mediocre/bad teams.

- We need a bruiser at RB for short yardage.

- How many times can we run our WR pass option? I've now seen it four times this year for touchdowns in limited viewing action. Including two vs Cortland! Fool me seventeen times, shame on......?

- One more year of grad student/fifth year eligibility? If so, we could be pretty nifty again. If not, we'll turn it over to the kids, and I think the roster shows that Toerper and crew can really recruit.

Ithaca renames complex Butterfield Field at Butterfield Stadium. Lake Monster finally revealed as the mascot winner.

Taste it.

Never too late to join the pick em competition, right?

Hobart- 31
Rochester- 16

Larries- 38
Buff State- 33

Buff State coach sounded like a very nice guy in WICB. His mantra of "we need to embrace punting" had me a bit nervous for them. "The Club" gets the win for his team, undoubtably wishing he was rooting on his alma mater at Cortaca.

RPI- 51
Union-6

Union gives Patch O Hoolihan the start and he does his best Johnny Football impersonation (Browns version). Him and his brother get tossed together in the last minute. Family bonding.

Great Day to be a Bomber- 77
Cortland is Gross- 2

Schumm does what Felicetti couldn't and grabs the jug his Freshman year. Boyes chokes with thousands of Bomber fans on top of him. The Oooga Booga cheer makes its triumphant return bouncing of the hills of Tompkins County. Wahid Nabi named honorary captain. Sympathy safety at the end of the game. Cortland fans go back and finish the job they started in 2013, burning the rest of that trash heap of a city to the ground. Club Semesters reopens for one night including the classy VIP room in the back for players.

Will be interesting to see if Boyes from Cortland handles the stage better this year. I was all ready for him to carve us up for 500 yards and he missed wide open targets all day last year. Not sure if it was due to the stage, lack of competition leading up...... I'd appreciate another clunker though.

Hope IC has cleaned up their ability to contain QB runs. I think he converted multiple 3rd and 25s last year with his legs...

Man, that Brockport game looks pretty flukish looking back. Ithaca had 28 first downs to Brockport's 12. 400+ yards to BPorts 250..... I guess four INT's hurt the cause.

Welch's teams also tended to have an annual clunker on the road. 2004 at Brockport comes to mind.

It was pretty odd that a team with Joey Germ and Will Gladney missed the playoffs. That was a pretty good combo. Was that the year they ran the triple reverse, flea flicker option from the RPI 1?

I remember about a decade ago... when the poor girl doing the halftime show said the Bombers weren't trying. She got grilled and came on here to give a public apology. They're kids.

The whole Joey G transfer thing cast a shadow over the Swanstrom era for me as well. Dude told the school newspaper he had no intention of finishing the year after the season, and was receiving financial aid! Better at least make the playoffs if you play those games.
