Congratulations to River Falls and Coach O'Grady. Not the season they wanted this year, but it was a good way to finish with a nice win over Eau Claire.

Just got back from watching the EC victory over St. Johns. Great win for the WIAC! The game score was stuck at 10-3 in favor of St. John's for much of the second half. I kept thinking to myself that Eau Claire needed to put together a drive and score or else St John's was going to put the game out of reach. However, St John's had enough mistakes on offense that they never were able to put that drive together in the 3rd or most of the 4th quarter.
Much credit to St John's for being able to take the ball, down 7 points with 2 minutes left on the clock, and scoring to tie the game with 5 seconds left on the clock. Eau Claire's defense held St Johns to a field goal while EC's offense pounded the ball until they were able to score the winning TD in the first overtime.

Plus, how would it look if the administrator wins the whole thing...you are the odds-on favorite every year, don't you know?
Maybe someone will come forward in the next week -- the call has been put out!!
Well................that is a legitmate point, BoBo, but now I have given away all my secrets! LOL
Maybe Nate will show up again, he usually does just before the season begins.
I never leave...I just lurk

I'll keep track of the pickem again this year unless somebody else really wants to. It's almost time for another fun season in the WIAC!

Congratulations must go out to each team in the semi-finals this year. Whitewater will face a tough test in Linfield this week. I must say that I am extremely happy that teams have to earn their spot in the National Championship through a playoff. Here's an interesting article about the Division 1 post season.

It was a great defensive battle at Menomonie today. Both D's came ready to play. River Falls had 2 goal line stands that limited Stout to 2 field goals instead of 2 touchdowns in the first half. Stout only gave up 1 touchdown in regulation. River Falls went for the win on a 2 point conversion in overtime and Stout's D was all over it. I would have liked to see it go the other way but great effort by both D's.

With the opening games less than a month away, I thought I would invite all those interested to participate in the WIAC Pickem challenge this season. I will be again keeping track of the picks.
Anybody who is interested, come on over to the Pickem board and chip in your 2 cents about how we should structure the scoring for this season. All are welcome!

A lot of talk on this board about the Whitewater and St. Johns matchup but where are all the Stevens Point fans? What do you think of the matchup?

Seems that Whitewater's penalties are getting worse as the season progresses. We started off with only 10 penalties combined in the first three games. that's still less than we had all last game.
Sitting in the stands on saturday, I believe UW penalties kept Whitewater from blowing the game open early. I think i counted four holdings/personal fouls in a row!!! unbelievable. two were on the same offensive lineman, one of those negated a huge 40+ yard pass down to Stout's 3 yard line.
Can anyone with organized football experience explain this too me. lack of disipline? Coaching? young inexperenced team? I refuse to blame the refs, as some people in the stands were yelling "let them play!!!"
As a former player and now a coach, I would say that a lack of emphasis during practice on the part of the coaching staff often contributes to increased penalties. Often when you get to this point in the season, basic fundamentals get neglected and sometimes you see slip ups such as this.
I didn't see the Whitewater game, but I did see the Marshfield vs. Menomonie high school playoff game. Both teams were penalized so many times it was amazing. It was clearly a case where the coaching staff was probably too preoccupied with preparing the kids for their opponent and neglected the little things such as penalties.
It's tough to maintain that proper balance of opponent preparation and basic fundamentals.

This is off topic, but as a Political Science major, I feel that it is my duty today to urge everyone to get out to the polls and vote. However, knowing the over class of the posters on this board, I would venture to guess that everybody already has or is planning on going.
Also, great catch by Stanley. Congratulations, it's always good to see WIAC players having success.

Big win for the Falcons today at EC. I would have to check the history books to see how long, but I know it's been a long, long time since RF beat a team as high ranked as that. Both teams looked good offensively, moving the ball well. RF got a few key stops on defense and in a close, back and forth game like that, that's all it took to win. It was a heck of a win for the Falcons.
Stoutguy, as a coach of the Rice Lake Warriors team, I can tell you that the Menomonie Indians will have to come to play against RF. The Wildcats were really solid on the O and D lines against us last night. It should be a heck of a game next week.

Yes, BoBo, both made it into the play-offs but as automatic qualifiers. Conference Champion of a cupcake league still makes you a cupcake.![]()
I have noticed a corrolation between the more success the Warhawks have, the less posters that come on the thread from other programs. I didn't start reading until the 05 season. Up until then, the WIAC had such parity with UWW and LAX usually duking it out for the top spot. They played each other the last game of the season to decide the Conference Championship in 03 and 04 and LAX won both years. It was quite lively on here. Then the Warhawks started to dominate the WIAC the last 3 years. When they started making noise at the national level, our opponents who had enjoyed success in that area would usually join us for some fun. But as the Hawks continued to climb and prove that this was no fluk, culminating in the National Championship title, the banter slowly died down. It could be considered a sign of respect, I guess, but makes for a lot less lively exchanges on here. When parity returns so will many of the posters, I suspect. Hope that doesn't sound arrogant, just my observation.
retagent.................Wish I could help ya but only have a suggestion. Find a safety/corner that can shut down Michael Zweifel. Oh, and................good luck with that!
I think we'll see some more parity return to the WIAC this year. I have a hard time believing that in this conference, one team will be able to dominate year after year. Whitewater is going to be good again, but I do not see them going undefeated through the conference again. You are right though, once some of the other teams that are close to the top start actually competing for a conference championship again, we'll see some of the posters for other teams come back again.

I'd be willing to read some info about UW River Falls, if there's anyone on here who has any.
RF lost a few key players but has a young team looking to improve as they continue to work out the kinks of the new offense. Harmon is back at QB and should be a great senior leader along with Witte on the O-Line. There appears to be some retooling on the O-Line as some seniors have graduated. Zweifel is of course back again to hopefully match the production he had last year. Key loss on offense to graduation is the RB Nate Anderson. Looks as though RF has a few young players ready to step up there. RF has a long tradition of finding great running backs and that shouldn't change.
On defense, RF is smaller on the D-Line, but overall has a quick defense that will look to swarm the ball carrier.
Overall, RF is young but should be improving from last year. It's just a matter of whether or not the young players who are stepping in are going to be able to step up or not.
