I thought about putting this over in the Centennial thread, but might be more meaningful to folks over here.

Moravian's track coach, Doug Pollard, died suddenly on Monday. If you guys ever paid attention to track, you know he built one hell of a program.

And he did have a connection to football, as he was the offensive line coach during my senior year in '96.

Well,
I actually have plenty of Pacific Northwest experience in Washington State and Northern Idaho, but that was my first Oregon trip. I have a friend out here who's wife is from Bend. Sounds like a great place, but it's a long ride from nowhere.
I will say I am said friend (at least I believe so). It's worth the three-hour drive from PDX if you consider that we get free golf and free drinks for as long as we're there.  :D

I grew up in Pa. and have lived on the East Coast all of my life. Were it not for missing my family and my wife's rather successful career, I would have moved there long ago. Seattle, Olympia, Vancouver (Wash.), Portland, Boise, Ketchum, Idaho (if I could afford it), wherever. I love the pace of life (laid back vs. bustle in the east) and the decided lack of humidity. When it's hot and you sweat, it dries - what a concept!

I know I mentioned this before, but the single wing actually made a comeback in Northern Va. about 5 years ago. A few teams who didn't have the spread offense personally went to versions of the Wing-T and single-wing to keep up, and they were so well-coached it actually worked. Osbourn (Manassas, Va.) won the Division 6 state title this year running the single wing, I believe. Last time I covered them they didn't have a true QB, any of 3 backs could get the snap, they ran the spin plays, etc.
Just as a note of correction: Osbourn switched to the spread last year.

And I know it's been a long time for K-Mack, but numbers for the QB who led them to the state title (he graduated in the spring): 290 rushes, 1,789 yards, 6.1 YPC, 26 TDs; 133 comp., 261 att., 2,428 yards, 32 TDs, 11 INT. So yeah, they had a QB who, not surprisingly, was Virginia's Player of the Year for Group AAA and is now suiting up at West Virginia.

I'm certain Keith will trust me on this.

Hey, so I wonder if ESPN's new College Football Live show can squeeze in some time to bring back Hidden Video, or some other kind of weekly small-school mention (p.s., I'm available).

I mean, the show isn't called Division I-A Live, so wouldn't you think ... naaaah.
One of the coolest nights of college was walking past the library, seeing our starting RT run out and tell us we were going to be on Hidden Video...

I zoomed back to my place (studying? what? I was a slacker anyway, that hour wasn't gonna help by that point) and we tuned in. Sure enough... Chris Fowler saying a big play in the little town of Bethlehem.

One of safeties picked off a quick out pattern and ran it back 100+ yards in OT. The extra points didn't much matter, the pick sealed the win for us anyway (opp. was going for 2 to win, IIRC). But that was a heck of a way to end a game.

Just getting around to this thread, but...

You still keep that FAQ page updated? Fletcher's on the 'Skins now. Not that I would know.  ::)

I can see why he didn't get a lot of big-school love out of HS. Dude's short.

on a sad note pbr saw this article on the death of Travis "Bo" Tkach who took his own life and played at wilkes. a little info is at the end of the article. pbr heard from people at the service that bobby bowden, jim tressel, dave wannstedt were at the funeral and the paterno family sent beautiul flowers. bo's brother tyler plays at the university of pitt.

Back when I worked in Pennsylvania at the paper in Lehighton, I had the chance to cover Bo a few times early in his HS career. We covered a game they won (IIRC) at Northwestern Lehigh, he was QBing.

I grew up in Lehighton. My dad and uncles worked the sticks at Friday night games long before I was born and only recently have given it up. Another guy that always used to help them was Bo's grandfather.

Jim Tkach, a former player at Lehighton and Lehigh, went on to coach at Northern Lehigh, and I had ample opportunity to talk to him over the years, both in my job and just as being a family friend. I can't tell you the level of respect I have for him: honest, friendly, always welcoming even though we weren't the big paper on the block.

My heart breaks for him and his family. They've always been wonderful to me, and I'm just incredibly saddened to hear about this.

Obviously I don't post here much, but I thought this was something that was worth my time.

PBR: Jim Tkach also spearheaded several Nike clinics in the Lehigh Valley, and they always seemed to bring in big-big name coaches - I remember reading Bowden was one of them, wouldn't surprise me if Tressel and Wannstedt (if they're Nike now) were there too. Still, an incredibly nice gesture from them.
