with all due respect andone and mr. ypsi this class is very good but no where near as talented as division 1 schools.
For example i think we can all agree  that chicago state and western illinois are two of the bottom 30 division 1 's in the nation with chicago state being bottom 5. Those schools' classes are much better than IWU's in turns of talent and athletic ability but andone you make some good points especially the STUDENT athlete one.

Thank you Millikin. And you may make a valid point also.

I would add two things to aid in the clarification/substantiation of my above post:

1. My comments weren't necessarily confined to IWU. There are other schools with outstanding recruiting classes too.

2. In the comparison of programs between different NCAA Divisions, we need to keep in mind that some low DI and DII schools, by their very nature, may well have recruits that are more athletically gifted. However, that does not automatically mean these athletes are better players than their counterparts at the upper DIII schools. There are a lot of factors besides pure athleticism that go into making a complete player.

For exmaple, see the Wheaton vs. Northwestern score.  Wheaton (a high D3) played great against a mid level D1.

Note:  I'm only 23 and haven't had a chance to go through all of the aches and pains the "Old Guys" talk about.  ;D :D

Just wait you will.

I'm waiting for that first no pads cut block to hit me, then i think i'll know.  >:(

On a few other notes, IWU alums Tom Kudyba and Chris Hummel are listed on the Bloomington Extreme roster for this spring.  In addition, former IWU lineman Chris Reynolds is starting at center for the Springfield Stallions, who play in the same league as the Chicago Slaughter (mentioned a few pages back).

I have been trying to stay away from the board because it is still a bit depressing not being able to participate in spring ball and all of the off season activities.

SOT, I think all of us former players still miss it in some way.  For me, the worst time is late summer/early fall when the morning air has a very unique smell of dew covered grass.  That smell is unmistakable.  Now that being said, I think most if not all of us former players who have been away from the game 10 years or more will also tell you, playing flag football can be hard enough on the bones and joints, so that feeling of wanting to put the pads back on is quickly diminished with the realization that doing so may very well lead to a hospital stay.  That's why we post on the board.  We can still talk about how great we'd still be without actually having to prove it.

Devildog29,
+ Karma if I had the ability, and I can't wait to improve the blocking in those flag football leagues  :P

Gotta love flag football, SOT!  I play in the Bud Sports league in St Louis and it's a riot playing O and D line.  Basically, the league is full contact at the line and two hand touch.  I play with some former players from Wooster and Otterbein and Wash U.  It's so funny to see what technique and ability can do against all the guys that thought they were high school heroes.  All i can say is you'll be amazed at how you play.  It's a great feeling, even without the pads.

A story about Zach Freeman's invitation to the CBI...

http://www.pantagraph.com/articles/2007/04/05/sports/doc46147e905e974917384036.txt

And a blog entry about Andrew Gilmore's surgery/recovery...

http://iwuhoops.blogspot.com/

Great to hear about both Zach and Andrew.  Q and others, how do you think Zach will stack up to the rest of the competition?  Also, who is the rest of the competition, have all the names been released?

It's March 1.  Has anyoen heard of any players "committing" to play for any CCIW teams as of yet?  IWU usually does a great job (along with the Pantagraph) of stating who's playing sports at the college and where they're from.  Yet, I haven't seen anything from either of them yet.  Q or or Bloomington area posters, have I missed something in the Pantagraph?

Any other schools hear of new players coming to the program?

TB,

This site usually has some names of players "committed" to a certain school.

http://edgytim.rivals.com/content.asp?SID=913&CID=618184

You have to scroll to the bottom to get to the CCIW schools.

Good site but not much info on CCIW schools.  Saw a couple of names but not much.  Like I said, IWU usually does a good job with this sort of thing but it may just be too early to ask.

I was looking threw my card collection because I am selling my whole collection  :'( but I did find a card of Ken Anderson (Augie QB) and also a player that played for Millikin. A wide reciever that I think played with Green Bay or the Eagles. The name is slipping my mind right now. Any help?

Also if you are interested is some cards let me know. I am selling them very cheap  ;D

This has been discussed before im sure but what other players that have played in the CCIW also played in the NFL? I know Rucks was with the NY Jets for 2 years.

John Munch - IWU LB played for the Jets and maybe the Pats for a few years in the mid 90s

Great to hear about Elias Washington for the Titans!!  I remember seeing him play in high school (i'm a few years older than him) and he was/is something special.  Hopefully the Titans future outlook is looking better!!

FightinTitan-  You still around?  Hearing about the lossof some assistant coaches at NPU make me wonder if our IWU transplant (and friend) is still there.  Any ideas?  Have you heard from him lately?

Now that national college signing day is over.  Anyone hearing words of "commitments" to play at the CCIW schools?  I know IWU puts their commitments up on their website, but I'm not sure when.

Just be thankful the Bears don't have Matt Millen as a GM.  My poor Lions are NEVER going to catch a break.  :o

IMHO, Rex is a very unpolished quarterback thanks to his inexperience and plainly let Super Bowl jitters get to him.  Not staying under center and securing the football at the snap (twice) is pretty inexcusable, even in the rain.

IWU Boy Beauties...Hmmm, would the women have been called the Beauties or the Lady Boy Beauties??

And DHF, the Fighting Bunnies is actualyl the mascot of Fischer High School in southern Illinois.  I'm still impartial to the Cornjerkers, the Apppleknockers and the Orphans... ;D

Well since the Pats lost, good luck to Da Bears and NUTS to the colts.

I second that motion.  Too bad Brady couldn't finish this time.  Did anyone else notice the "Manning face" repeatedly on Sunday after the Colts were down 18.  Way too funny to see his sad, glazed over stare.   ;D

RedmenFB-

Good input on Peyton and I do agree that he is a great quarterback.  Maybe I should have said the reasons that I like the Patriots and Tom Brady.  Tom Brady has basically taken a team with no well known wide recievers and turned Jabar Gaffney and Reche Caldwell into quality receivers.  Peyton has the luxury of two standout WRs that make one of the best tandems in the league.

In short, if the Colts defense keeps playing so well and Peyton has a so-so game, I still think the Pats win.  Peyton must have a great game along with the Colt defense to get to the SB.  If he does, then I will applaud him.  Til then, I stick with the boys from Foxboro.

I hope it snows in the Chi this weekend.  That's exactly what the Bears need to pull off a good win!
