What are some of the strengths and weaknesses of Central and Wartburg?  Seems to me that Wartburg starts slow.  I think Wartburg has only scored more than 7 points in the first quarter one game.  Wartburg has excellent offensive balance - but lacks a big power running back in the red zone.  Defensively - these guys are animals.  Like throwing a piece of meat to hungry lions.  Any other observations during "championship week"?

I've often wondered this:

True or False.  Will a school over recruit so as to not have a particular student/athlete playing for a rival team?

Gut check for those who really know.....

doolittledog:  my son attended the B.V. football camp starting in 8th grade.  Sioux Falls College was the first to recruit (they didn't have a bad year last year).  We kept a log of all schools with interest - via telephone calls, letters, etc..  Buena Vista didn't call until the week after our son made the decision to attend Wartburg.   B.V. has a nice campus - but as stated often - lots of choices in the western 1/3 of Iowa.  NAIA schools were very aggressive in recruiting.

Read earlier today about declining numbers at B.V..  Just curious for Beaver followers - are they doing a better job recruiting?  For 4 years, my son attended the B.V. Football Camp -- was in the top 5% of athletes attending - based on 40 times, shuttle, lifting, etc.  Had an initial interest in attending B.V. because he got to know the coaches so well.  But 30 college recruiters later - B.V. Coaches finally made a call -- after he had signed with Wartburg.  That was 18 months ago.

Is there some publication that has the weekly "lines" for IIAC football games?  If so, where can these be found - and what are the lines for this weekends games?  Thanks in advance!

Congrats to Wartburg for playing great defense almost all day.  They were in position to make plays and they showed good athleticism and toughness.  They also made less unforced mistakes than the Norse.  Those two things will combine to win lots of games.

Yordi took some hits, but did the job for the Knights.  He protected the ball, found the TE on some good plays (other than the huge drop, good game by the TE), and made the easy throws when Luther gave him some openings.  Teams won't be able to gang up on the Knight run game as much this year.

I am a Van Rees fan.  He didn't have a big day at all (both defenses played well today), but he usually is my type of solid runner when I see him.

Wartburg (as Central did last week) punted very well today and the Luther punt return team is still the worst in Division III.

Neither team could run the ball at all.  That is the first time that a team has shut down Sherden as a runner (60 yards on 24 carries).  Tyler did not play bad as much as the Knights just shut it down.  Ditto for Luther on Suckow and the Knight running game.  Sherden went for 200 on Wartburg in 2005 before getting hurt the next week against Coe.

Good games in a Norse uniform by LB Rost, DL Webb, RB Lamos, RB Lower, and a bunch of guys up front for the Norse Defense.

Neither team sniffed the end zone until Luther accidentally snapped a long snap to a blocker on a punt attempt in the 2nd quarter.  That gave the Knights a huge break.

Luther also had two screw-ups on punt return that they did on their own and threw a pick into the end zone when the QB and WR were on the wrong page.  Oh, they also gave the Knights a first down by roughing the Knight punter.

Wartburg's TE dropped a long potential TD pass.  He was WIDE OPEN.

Central vs. Wartburg is going to be a good game IMO.  I think most of you know that as well.  In the meantime the Knights should have a chance at Dubuque next week.  That defense should play well against the Spartan spread offense.

Floyd In Iowa City - you saw the same game I saw.  I thought Luther dominated Wartburg in the first quarter.  Did Wartburg even have positive yardage in the first quarter?  The Luther botched punt in the second quarter seemed to start the "feeding frenzy" for Wartburg.  There were several outstanding players for both teams.  I was really impressed with Wartburg's Lauterbach - how many big plays did he have?  Playing in front of 6,600 people really gave this game a true college atomosphere.  Heard this from one of the Knights after the game : "we've only allowed 15 points this year - and those points were scored on our 2nd unit".

When I started reading this board last year, I was impressed with the civility of the posts.  Don't know why the animosity the last day or two.

I hope I'm not alone when I say I enjoy reading about all games, the big plays, the turning point in the game -- outstanding performances.  Even though I have a son playing for Wartburg College - I enjoy reading about other schools and their games, players, coaches.  A lot of these kids know each other from high school sports. A lot of these parents also know each other.

What (I hope) keeps this board special is the  publicity provided by fans of their respective teams - albeit sometimes extremely biased.  It's painfully obvious newspapers don't give the IIAC the coverage it deserves.  Reading the game stats doesn't always tell the story of the game.  Thanks to those who supply weekly information -- it's the best media outlet for fans of the IIAC.

Thanks to those who weekly supply information .. and thanks to the administrator of this board ... imagine trying to following the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference without this opportunity.  Instead, Saturday's might be "just another game".

I'm one of those people who likes to listen to a game on the radio as I'm watching it.  Can IIAC football fans tell me if their local radio station will broadcast their games and what their frequency these broadcasts will be on.  AM or FM and where  on the radio dial.  Be nice to know .. ads a certain flavor to the game.  My thanks in advance!

Been following this Neil Suckow transfer issue with mixed feelings.  Some "yellow lights" start flashing.  Let's play the "what" game:
* "What If" underclassmen 2nd or 3rd team players each year combed the rosters of other teams and then decided to transfer to a school where they could become an immediate starter.  What a recruiting nightmare this would be for coaches --- and potential disappointment for new freshmen coming in.
* "What About" players who have paid their dues working 2 or 3 years at one school, working to become a starter - then a transfer comes in - disrupting natural maturity and attrition for the football team.  Could this be dangerous for team chemistry?
* I would be curious - does anyone have any direct comments from either of the Head Football Coaches of the two schools involved with this transfer?

I can fully appreciate allowing a student to transfer - $30,000 a year for education is a lot.  Final question:  Would a team that wins a conference championship due to an influx of a transfer or transfers have an asterisk beside their name?

New to IIAC Football .. my son is a freshman football player at Wartburg.  But if someone would be kind enough to "educate me" on the Division III football playoffs, it would be much appreciated.  For example, what are the differences between "Pool A, Pool B, Pool C"?  What does the acronyms stand for that I've been reading recently on these posts regarding potential football play off teams?  Who selects teams to play in D3 playoffs?  Any information is appreciated.

As a "virgin" to post on this message board .. I find it rather entertaining and somewhat "educational".  Rather humorous at times.  It's much more disciplined than the IowaPrep message board - which is a breath of fresh air.

I'm planning on going to the Wartburg-Simpson football game this weekend - but never have been to the Simpson football field.  Is this field located on the Simpson campus?

My thanks in advance.
