JT...

Skyline Brock is a beautiful old hotel that has great views of the falls...the upper floors have suites that have balconies also...I stayed there with my wife on a first wedding anniversary trip...

Here is the bad news...the entire hotel was renovated a few years ago...I hote to burst your bubble...but the "commode" in your room...was probably replaced as well...

But what a thought...so I will just make the assumption that they left that one piece of porcelein in its original state to preserve such a memory for all of the Marilyn fans out there...

By the way guys...I feel a little sorry for Becker this week...they lost big to Mt Ida...Rensselaer might hang at least half a hundred on those guys...

Men,

I just got caught up with all of the posts from the weekend...with coaching youth football, real job, kids, house and honey do list...I will need to step up my game to ever get off the junior varsity...

Re:  RPI vs. Hobart...Pumpkin heads win again this year....the only thought I have now is to take the carving knife out and stab out the eyes and teeth of this years front porch Jack-o-lanterns...the feeling of carving up a pumpkin head on the kitchen table will be the only satisfaction I have this year relating to that particular variety of BIG ORANGE SQUASH!!!   Congrats to the Hobartians....now.....GO BEAT THE "U"!!!!!!!

Re:  My previous post pertaining to the comparisons between Rensselaer and Hobart....My main point was that if you are looking for an outstanding education with a very promising career upside...and you want to play football in Upstate NY...Rensselaer presents the best package in all of the state...the only exception might be if you want to be a phys ed teacher...although Matt Patricia...former player and coach at Rensselaer has done "OK" in the phys ed arena by earnign the position of LB Coach for the NFL's New England Patriots... now that puts Rensselaer on the map as a coaching factory....(guys....don't come at me on that one...I am stretching it a lot on that point)

Bottom line is that we are all vying for the same kids in the region...and it is highly competitive...and there are many pros and cons for each school....but Rensselaer has a great package to offer...and when they get the new $50 Million +  sports facility done, it will just sweeten the pot for the recruits to look at....

TGP...
Just read in today's paper...I am in the Rochester area...that H and WS just announced a new capital campaighn for I think $160 Million or so...

Since it is RPI-Hobart Weekend...lets put that into perspective...

RPI's currnet campaign is for almost ten times as much as that...$1.4 BILLION...

So...what can we determine from that...???

Since there is a formula used by development offices that will give you a percentage of funds that Alumni will likely give vs. governmental and crporate gifting, RPI ALUMNI GIVE ABOUT 10 TIMES AS MUCH MONEY TO THEIR ALMA MATER THAN HOBART ALUMS!!!

From that...Can we extrapulate the following...

1- RPI ALUMS HAVE 10 TIMES AS MUCH DISCRETIONARY FUNDS TO PLAY WITH....

2- RPI ALUMS MAKE 10 TIMES AS MUCH AS HOBART ALUMS...

3- RPI ALUMS CARE MORE ABOUT THE FUTURE OF EDUCATION IN OUR COUNTRY THAN A LIBERAL ARTS SCHOOL LIKE HOBART...

4- RPI ALUMS HAD A BETTER EXPERIENCE IN TROY THAN HOBART ALUMS HAD IN GENEVA....(OUCH THAT ONE WOULD HURT!!!)

5- RED IS A BETTER COLOR THAN ORANGE...

Ok...Ok....i will stop there...but the reality is, $1.4 Billion is a lot to raise and that kind of a number is usually only attempted by the Major Institutions( Michigan, Stanford, etc...) and Ivy's....

Just another indication of Rensselaer's stature vs. the rest of the Liberty League competition....not another school in the LL or even the Empire League comes close to the academic standards and average starting salaries of a Rensselaer grad...

Last I checked, the AVERAGE starting salary out of Rensselaer was right around $55,000 dollars across all of the majors....not a bad start for a 21 year old...and if you stick around for grad school it goes up very nicely...

Bottom line...If you are looking for a very competitive football program, with a great career potential upside....and a football program that is run by someone with a lot of integrity....YOU CAN'T GET ANY BETTER IN ALL OF NY STATE!!!!

Respectively submitted with all due respect to the Pumpkin Head Nation...

LETS GO RED!!!!!!

Red Tackle...

I have been in sales for a long time now...and the one thing you always need to remember is what is the ultimate goal of showing up to work every day...what function does this particular job serve for you....

The answer to that question can have some different variations...some are looking for self fulfillment....but if you chose sales as a career, i am guessing that  you are not neccessarily interested in saving the world at this point in your career....but rather you are looking for the "check at the end of the tunnel"...

With that in mind, my advice to you is to stay focused on the goal...do not get involved with office politics...listen to everything that goes on around you and do not say a word...Knowledge truly is power in an organization....never send an email that has any negative opinion expressed in it...always show a positive front with others...and last but not least...keep your friends close ....but your enemies closer....

The last one pertains to the Dragon Lady...she obviously must have a good sized ego....with personalities like that, she would probably like to get asked for help and be included in anything good going on...see if you can turn the tables somehow and use her experience and place in the company to advance yourself...

I am not saying kiss up....but rather position yourself strategically to take advantage of anything that she can do for you...still remain in control....and wait until you are in a position to separate yourself in the organization...

Good luck!

Gro...

Carson "My knee is just fine thank you" Palmer would be my choice...

Rex "I can implode any time now" Grossman is playing in a hostile dome environment and the Vikings are playing some inspired ball right now...

The Steelers are also coming off a Monday night game and a short week to prepare for a very good offense...

Just my humble opinion...hope it is helpful input as you make your choices...

Well...it is nice to see all the Pumpkin Head / Engineers, Red Hawks, Red Swarm,"Toot"ers etc. banter going on...at least we are focusing on Liberty League topics!!

Red Swarm from the West had a good week last week going 7 for 7 on all Upstate Games predicted...so I will chalk it up to beginners luck and a predictable week for most of the games played!!!   Not going to boast about an easy week like that!  I have to earn it over time!!

Reg...I was a Hall Hall resident back in the day...pre-renovation Hall Hall to boot...had the single room on the second floor next to the RA...it was great that I did not have to room with "Wun Hung Lo" or "Muhammed Ikutyurcokoff" ...

Men...it does my heart good to see the schedule this week and notice that Upstate NY owns 6 spots in the top 25!!!

Just imagine if there could be an all Upstate NY "All Star" team!!!  Or if all of these teams weren't beating each other up for the same recruits...WOW...you could put together a pretty strong squad year in year out if the talent pool wasn't so spread out across the state....Except for Union who seems to import the talent from Florida every year now...not saying its not smart...just not home grown!!!

Here are the Red Swarm from the West featured games of the Week...

And what a week it is....

Rochester at "The U"...Scott Greene is going to get them there...but "The R" is not quite ready for what they will see in Schenectady...Union 31  Rochester 7

Ithaca at St. John Fisher...Ithaca hasn't played anyone of circumstance yet so this will be their first test...Fisher is looking as good as they ever have...the Offense is just wearing people down...big up front...Robinson toting the mail with a good back up to spell him and keep him fresh...Ithaca will need to stuff the run game and force Fisher to air it  out if they want to walk out of Pittsford with a win...RSTTW says that the home field advantage will help Fisher and it will be a squeeker in OT...Fisher 20   "The I" 14

And last but not least...

The "Turd Bowl"...I am not familiar with that name for this one...but I will yield to the loyal contributors to Post Patterns and refer to it as such...

I was there for last years game at the Pumpkin Patch....It was the first time I had ever been to an RPI-Bart game in shorts...the game was incredible...and RPI should have won but there was a dropped ball in the end zone...

Robertson is a year more seasoned and he Branch will have an incredible game while he Robertson gets some other help from Savasli in his coming out party...
RPI 34 - "The H"  24...

Cheers everyone!!!

Ok...I would  like to suggest putting up the  "NO FAT CHICKS" sign for this room...GAWD...that was worse than when the lights used to go on at 4 AM at Sutters....

I always made sure I left by 3:45!!!!  If all the alcohol didn't make me puke...that kind of sight surely would!!!!

It is only speculation, but I am betting that the  Cat Turd came from the old Chanticlair Hotel that we used to stay at when we travelled to Geneva to face the Pumpkin Heads...I can honestly say that I have never stayed in a worse establishment in all my days...unfortunately back then, there was no place that would "Leave the lights on for you..." in the vacinity and Kerry Quinn thought that it was just fine for us!

It was a dump!

RE:  Union going 0-2...

Wow...when was the last time that happened???

As someone who truly hates the U...but at the same time respects their track record of wins v. losses (how can you not...the numbers speak for themselves), I would thing that a bookie would make that a longshot on the sheet for this week.

If they were in a rebuilding year...I would say maybe...but they have too many upperclassmen to have such a disasterous start!

Men,

Regarding the sales topic...I just have two things to say...

1)  If your sales guys are making promises they can't keep and just saying "YES" to everything that potential clients want...they will get theirs in the end!!  Sales without profits will get recognized in an 18-24 month cycle...unfortunately, most Sales Managers don't see that until their ass is in a sling from the VP for lack of profit margin...and then the sweat trickles down to the Camaro driving, Aqua Velva wearing, greased back Slick talker sales guy who has no regard for the company or true customer relations.

2)  Nothing happens in this world until something gets sold!!!

You want to see someone be responsible and hungry as a sales person, set up the program on a 100% commission basis!  You get nothing unless you sell AND MAKE PROFIT for both the Company and yourself.  Then you have a program that allows the good sales professional to make real coin but ONLY IF HE IS GOOD AT WHAT HE DOES.  The "GEL JOCKEY" sales guys won't want that program...too much risk for them...the guys who are hungry and like to get after it...will jump on the HIGH RISK / HIGH REWARD program and they will end up "Cashin' Checks" baby!

Ohhh sure...Gro...now you want me to work...I see how you are...

I am sure there are many....and when they have something to say...they will jump in...

I just couldn't take any more of the salesman bashing...since I am in sales myself...and just tried to segway back to the topic originally proposed by the illustrious administrator...and I quote...from Post #1...

"This is the new home of LL discussion...."

Thanks LD...

Nope...its a different Red Swarm....just from the same era....and since I am from the West, I subscribe to mostly Western thinking... ie..."more is better" and "super size me"...rather than the philosphies from the East that you might find inside the stale cookie at the local Rainbow Wok...

Men,

I have been a long time reader of Post Patterns and I would like to pay tribute to all who have been consistent and meaningful contributors...BUT MEN...

WHEN ARE WE GOING TO GET BACK TO FOOTBALL????

Here are some UPSTATE NY predictions that just hopefully can start some football discussion and get away from "blinged out cat teeth"!!!!!

Cortland at home over an overmatched Brockport  31-14

Hartwick can't match up against Ithaca...Bombers 38-10 over the "steel cagers"

Hobart @ William Patterson...tough to tell just how good (or bad) William Patterson really is...they lost by only a TD against Muhlenberg who is 2-0...and the boys from Geneva just squeeked it out over a possibly mediocre Dickinson...hmmmmm...its a long ride to New Jersey...but I still think Hobart comes out on top...20-7 in favor of the Pumpkin Heads!

Muhlenberg vs. Union....I kind of feel sorry for the Mules....I think they are going to run into a buzz saw at the Frank!  Union is going to want to flex its muscles after last week's disappointment with Springfield...it hurts me to say it ...but...Union 35 - Mules 13

Mount Ida vs. St. John Fisher...Men...not too many are going to be able to shut down the Fisher ground game this year...their O-Line is BIG...and their RB Robinson is the real deal...Fisher rolls for 300+ yards on the ground this week and crosses over the 40 mark for the first time...
Fisher 41 - Mount Ida 3.

Gettysburg @ Rochester...I think Rochester wins this one just because they are playing at home...Roch. 21 - Gettysburg 17

And last but not least...RPI @ Utica....Red Swarm from the West says that RPI will be wanting to fine tune the offense and make a statement against the Utes...no reason to talk about revenge...just take care of business...score 5 TD's (3 in the air and 2 for Mr. Bernardo) and get back on the bus and head home...sprinkle in 1 field goal and you have RPI 38 - Utica 10...

Well ...those are my very first predictions...let me know what you think men!!!

Cheers!!!
