DutchFan,
the linebacker that came off actually broke his fibula.  He's a tough kid and wanted to make the effort to play on it for the rest of the game, but understandably didn't.  He was definitely missed in the clutch moments of the game.  However, there is a bright side;  the freshman linebackers that played in his spot got a shot and took advantage of it.  They played very well and are poised to be some of the best that Coe has seen.

Being a Kohawk fan this year has been both exciting and disappointing.  A break here and there (by break I mean made field goals; two against wartburg and one in overtime on saturday against Central) and it's Coe that's talking about the Pool C or Pool B bid and maybe even another conference championship.

Anybody who was at the game on Saturday could tell that having Tekippe back was huge!  He made a few mistakes due to rust and nothing against Bobby, but the offense just looked crisper and mroe confident.  It should make for an interesting season next year with both DeMoulin and Tekippe coming back.  Look for Coe to be a threat next year, even with the loss of a huge senior class.

Picks:

Central:  just too tough for Cornell

Luther:  Both Offenses will struggle, I just think that Simpson will struggle more.

Loras:  Don't know why, but I have to pick someone.

Coe - the seniors haven't beaten Wartburg in their time @ Coe and can't wait to get this game underway.  The O line will be ready for the line stunts and the skills guys are ready to make big plays both blocking and receiving.

K-Mack, after the game, make sure you stop over to the tailgate area for some excellent food.  Hot chili and cold beers...

Picks for the week:

Coe over Simpson by 21 - After dropping the Homecoming game to Loras, Coe's back on track now that the defense has a little more confidence from keeping Belleus and a high powered Spartan offense out of their hair.  It was a little too close for comfort, but 23 points isn't too bad.

Luther over BV by 14.  - If the Norse don't win this one, they'll probably pack it in and will be a hard sell for the rest of the year.

Wartburg over Loras by 9 - It's too tough to come into Waverly and spoil Homecoming.  Coe's tried it before and only been successful when they had Freddy Jackson.  I think Wartburg's too tough and deals Loras their first set back and sets in motion the Duhawks' fall from grace.

Central over UD by 14 - The UD offense is the real deal and deserves all the hype; their defense on the other hand is not.  Since Central has struggled to score high points all year, this is the week that they're able to get on track.  Good luck to UD, but I think they'll come up short just like last weekend.

*I will say this, if Central doesn't come to play, then UD will nip them.  They stuck around for 4 quarters against Coe last week and caused every single kohawk fan at the game a great deal of anxiety.  Take your heart pills dutch fans, you'll need them.

Picks for the week:

This week's games are easily the hardest to pick thus far.  There are some very intriguing matchups.

BV over Cornell by a touch.  The BV defense is for real... except the Kohawk offense is more for real.

Coe by 10 over Loras - Coe's Homecoming... easy choice.

Luther over UD by 3 - Wanted to pick UD here, but as much talent as they have, I think they're just as undisciplined.  Assignment football wins for Luther.

Wartburg over Central by 4.  I think the Wartburg defense will exploit the Central O Line and be in the backfield all day.  Plus I want Coe to be the 1st team to beat Wartburg this year.

Good luck to everyone.  Especially the Hawkeyes; they'll need it.

Then I'm peeved at Cornell.  Like usual...

I must say that when I opened up D3football.com this afternoon and looked at the front page and saw an article about Cornell and BV trying to stop their losing streaks, I was disgusted.  The IIAC works very hard for respect and recognition around the country.  In a week where Central and Wartburg (arguably the two most successful programs in IIAC history) are playing each other, the first thing that people see about our conference is two teams that have 1 win between them.  Does this peeve anyone else?

Why aren't we writing articles about a top twenty five team hosting a team that has received votes and has a number of championships in recent years?

No offense to Cornell or BV, but I'd much rather people that check this site know about the nationally meaningful games, not a game that reminds me of the "Bush bowl" in the NFL from a year ago.  Correct me if I'm wrong...

Congrats to the 15th ranked Kohawks for their win on Saturday in Decorah.  They played very well and almost moved the ball at will, just couldn't score in the red zone.  I was impressed with DeMoulin's play.  He doesn't look like much of a scrambler, but he ran effectively and efficiently all day.  If Coe's defense can play as well as they did Saturday, it could be a long season for the whole IIAC.

picks this week:

Coe over BV is the obvious choice. Especially since Coe's at home in the "ghetto."
Coe by 20.

Wartburg over Luther by 4.  Waverly's a tough place to go into and get a win. But I hope I'm wrong here.

Loras over UD.  The battle of Dubuque will be close since UD has improved a great deal.  However, Loras has had 2 weeks to prepare and they have to be itching to get back into the action after a bye.
I'll give Loras 7 points

Simpson over Cornell.  Call me crazy, but I don't really know much about either team.  Cornell has just been a bottomdweller for the last couple seasons and a loss to UD doesn't make me very excited to pick them.
Simpson by 5?

Hello all.  First timer here, go easy.

Let me first say that this weekend is a HUGE weekend in college football, D-1 and DIII alike.  All of the major games will be watchable on national TV, but unfortunately none of the DIII games qualify as major. For this reason, I'm looking forward to sharing analysis with all of you about the games that we're not able to see.  That being said, these are my picks.

Wartburg - Simpson seems to be struggling this year and Wartburg hasn't struggled at all in recent years.

Cornell - new coach, new energy, new tradition?  I know that two wins in a season is hardly a tradition, but it could be the beginning.

Coe - gotta give the nod to the Kohawks.  Bobby is playing better and better each gamew and learning that it's his offense.  The defense is working hard to fill in holes that many people thought would be their achilles heel.  Plus I'm blinded by pride.

Central - this one seems to be the easiest pick.  Central is a very quality team that has already learned to come from behind and fight for 4 quarters and the season is only 2 weeks old.

Good luck to all!
