Greek Tragedy = UWL starts spring break on Friday, so I'm not sure what kind of student fan base will be still around... Not sure how many of the townsfolk will hop on the bandwagon this weekend, either... But I'd think you'd be able to get a ticket... Ticket info at the school's website allows you to purchase via Internet, and says "your phone is your ticket." ($17)

Also, if you do decide to make the trip and are looking for a quick bite to eat, the Eagle's Nest bar/restaurant across from the gym is under new ownership and will not be open this weekend....

Good stuff! I'll be along again vicariously for your annual excursions...
Curious to see if you'll head up to the new arena in Eau Claire, and your thoughts about that...

Hey Greek Tragedy...
Are you contemplating another D3 Challenge this season so I can live vicariously through all your road trips across the state?

I echo Greek Tragedy and a +1 to Tom4525...

General football / Re: Best D3 Marching ?

UW-Eau Claire has an ensemble of 475+ members...

One of the largest in the country, at all levels...

If you're asking to determine if you or someone should go there, here's a link:

https://www.blugoldmarchingband.com/general-info

The band also posts performances on You Tube...

If you aren't asking for someone who's looking for a school to go to, then any other information I would provide would just be me boasting about my alma mater's band...  ;)

2000 season, sectionals: UW-Eau Claire's Sherm Carstensen hits a three at the buzzer to defeat conference champ/rival UW-Stevens Point, 60-58, to send the Blugolds into the Final Four, where they would then beat Salem State, but would lose in the championship game to Calvin...

That was such a memorable play that UWSP's coach Jack Bennett mentioned it and Carstensen by name in 2005 during a welcome home rally for the Pointers, who were bringing home the championship trophy for the second straight year...

badgerwarhawk -
The WIAC archives were sort of hard to navigate to find this info....

I'm glad you double-checked my work, because I was having brain farts yesterday; I didn't remember that 64 teams actually make the tournament, so was pleasantly surprised when watching part of the the Selection Sunday Show and the seeing D3 gurus here give a berth to the Lady Blugolds, who have not played well down the stretch... We'll see if those predictions hold up, and I'll be watching to see how our WIAC teams who get to lace 'em up for a few more games do in the tourney...

You're a bit older than I am, but I remember the good old NAIA/WSUC days, when UWEC men's hoops teams were actually in the tourney, "going to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come..." ;)

It's a great day to be a WARHAWK!!

Conference tournament trivia:

This was the 21st year of the conference tournament.

Championships:
Men- Stevens Point: 8; WHITEWATER: 5; Oshkosh: 4; River Falls: 2; Platteville: 2
Women- Stevens Point: 7; Oshkosh: 6; WHITEWATER: 3; Stout: 3; Eau Claire: 2

Only three schools, Stevens Point, Oshkosh and WHITEWATER have won both the men and women's championships in the same season.  Point has done it four times (2003-04, 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11). Oshkosh twice (2015-16 and 2019-20) and this was a first for the WARHAWKS.

It will be interesting to see how many WIAC teams get invited to the big dance...
The Warhawks will be well represented, and may have dealt a blow to UWEC's lady Blugolds with the win today...

I see some different numbers on the all-time conference tournament records... If this was the 25th year, dating back to 1999, the championship totals are:

Men = Point 9, UWW 5, UWO 5, UWP 3, UWRF 2, UWEC 1
Women = Point 7, UWO 7, UWEC 4, Stout 4, UWW 3...

Good stuff, Greek Tragedy...

He wonders: "Parking is a premium down there (at UWL), no idea where everyone parks for football games."

I live less than a half mile from the stadium; they surround our neighborhood, especially during the state track meet... ;)

Thanks for the update, Greek Tragedy...

This Blugold wonders if you have any other tidbits about UWEC/Zorn? How was the popcorn? (My go-to pregame meal was usually two hot dogs. Ha. I have not been on lower campus or in Zorn for 15 years; it has changed so much with all the new buildings there I probably wouldn't recognize it from when I was a student there many moons ago...)

You caught Zorn just in time, as a new arena is slated to open in 2024 - adjacent to where the hockey arena is along the Chippewa River, if you are familiar with that site?

PS - you have some pretty neat photos on your Facebook page that capture your travel challenge escapades throughout the state....

Thanks for the update, Greek Tragedy...

Why am I always hungry for popcorn after reading your posts? Heh, heh.  ;)

Interesting coaching philosophy as applied by Marquette's Shaka Smart - counting the number of EGBs per game...

EGBs, or energy generating (or giving) behavior... or as he defines them "anything you do that gives energy." ie slapping the floor, giving teammate a pat on back, chest bumps, acknowledging a teammate's good play, etc.

MU tallied more than 3,000 in its win on Tuesday over Seton Hall.

Here's a link to the Milwaukee-Journal Sentinel story, via the Stevens Point Journal:

Thanks for the update, Greek... Looking forward to the rest of your reports...
And I hate to do it, but I am going to knock you off the Lucky 777s karma. Ha.
