@fishermba - JCU looked very strong.  Score was 35-0 after the half with ones v. ones.  Anthony Moeglin and Riley Larkin shared the snaps.  Larkin had 3 TD passes, Moeglin 1.  Good article on it here:

This week will be the real test, of course.

OK, this is a late post, but the posts on out of state, especially FL, roster members got my curiosity and seems the OAC is a good destination for out of state students, and not just those that border Ohio.   From this year's JCU roster:

Ohio
94

Illinois
10

Florida
8

Michigan
8

New York
4

Indiana
2

Missouri, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, and Kentucky with one each

Any other roster breakdowns?

This is a great week for OAC football . . . reminds me of 2002.   This is a dream for the rest of the DIII finalists, OAC beating up on OAC, probably one of the few ways to beat us.   Obviously, I'd love to see my Streaks in this game, but this post season success by two OAC teams just solidifies our standing among the DIII football elite when it really matters most, in the post season.

Congrats to Capital and Mt. Union on opening round wins.  Cap faithful, I truly was hoping to get to Naperville for the game, but was stymied by too many obligations at home.  Great road win.

Keep the DIII post season victory record firmly in the OAC's hands!

ONU losing to JCU is as bad as COE losing to KNOX!  Come on Bears, you have got to be kidding me.

Hanrahan

KO HAWK - First, I never referred to you as an ONU fan.  Second, from the post quoted above, "Come on Bears,  . . ." perhaps I misconstrued that to be cheering on a team, i.e. sure sounded like a comment from a fan.  I guess I read that post wrong.

Enjoy the rest of the season supporting but not being a fan of ONU.

"3) 70-0 means scafe pissed off LK"

KO-HAWK: What exactly did Regis Scafe do to supposedly piss off Larry Kehres?  I hope you can back up a statement like that before you smear two excellent coaches.

And why are you slamming JCU - "like Coe losing to Knox" - that's not just smack, it's ignorant.  70-0 was awful, but find me an OAC team that has hung better with MUC over the last ten years than JCU.   Didn't think you'd find one.   As soon as your own house is in order there in beautiful downtown Ada then we'll talk.

Also, seventiesraider, I agree:  maybe ONU just isn't quite as good as billed.  Credit to the ONU fans who won't let Trusnik's absence be the scapegoat.

Finally, did that many people think JCU would just pack it in after the MUC game?   It's not like we lost to Tri-C.

ohio football,

I think some here would take issue with ONU being the "top ranked" OAC school academically.  True for the bachelor's level, but when you rank at the Master's level, check back in with us.

Just kidding - like statistics, one can spin the rankings many ways.

Nine hours to be considered full time?  Perhaps I'm just out of the loop and that's an NCAA requirement.   When I was an undergrad, 12 hours were the minimum for full time status which covered areas such as financial aid, housing, and I thought athletics as well.  I'm just surprised only 9 hours would qualify as full time - perhaps it varies by school.

According to the releases from the NCAA and ONU, the team is eligible for the post season pending the outcome of the appeal; so for now all is OK for the current players & coaches.

But what results from this from the ONU release?

"The NCAA has mandated that ONU vacate its contests in football in 2004 and remove the scores of the women's golfer from team totals in 2001.

The University will abide by these mandates."

Do the records for the ONU opponents change officially as a result?  Does vacate mean 2004 wins for ONU become losses and wins for its opponents?  Or do they become wins by forfeit?

My unscientific OAC rankings:

1.)     JCU - Jesuit educated athletes - who could ask for anything more?
2.)     Capital - brave enough to wear purple; my high school nickname is also the Crusaders
3.)     MUC - largely voted this high out of respect for the record; home field is a racetrack grandstand masquerading as a football stadium, you need our alum (Tim Russert) to speak at your school
4.)     B-W - throwing the YellowJackets a bone if only to keep the Cuyahoga Bowl alive (is that a rock or a potato on that trophy? http://www.jcu.edu/pubaff/newsandevents/bw_trophy.jpg)
5.)     ONU - comfortably smack in the middle (as in of nowhere, like its location); the sweater on the mascot? - Why?  Do Polar Bears get cold?
6.)     Marietta - points for being dangerously close to West Virginia.   And no, Pioneer nation, it's not baseball season yet.
7.)     Heidelberg - Please - forget the nickname and focus on some W's
8.)     Otterbein - another school that sounds like it should be located in the Alps
9.)     Muskingum - no mascot named for a freshwater fish merits any respect; that John Glenn is an alum keeps them out of the basement
10.)   Wilmington - mercifully the Patriot cum Quaker helmet was put to rest but too late to make up for the mediocre performance on the field (women's b-ball doesn't count) and in the classroom .  Your U.S. News rankings are abysmal!

Hats off to MUC for delivering a thorough drubbing!

I'm sure this is one of the prouder moments for Larry Kehres' program.  That must have been one heck of a ride back to Alliance.

This will no doubt further cement what comes to mind first when people think of Mount Union College:  football success.

First, my belated condolences from a visitor from the OAC world to the IWU family on the loss of Doug Schmied.  What a tragedy.

In the face of that tragedy, Doug's parents were incredible at the IWU opener yesterday.  This link takes one to a great article on the emotional opener:

Good luck to the Titans this season.

Unfortunately, according to coltspower.com the Colts have waived Tom Arth.    Looks like they gave him some time in the big loss to the Bengals, but most of the game was played by Sorgi.   Tom had no TDs but no INT's either.  It looked likely in the last week or two that they would only go with 2 QBs on the depth chart.   Tough roster to break into at QB with a horse like Peyton Manning there.   Maybe the Bears can pick him up . . . another guessing game at QB for us again this year.

Tom Arth now has sole possession of the Colts' 3rd QB spot following a season ending injury to Travis Brown and an impressive performance at the end of the Colts-Bears game this past weekend.  Click here for more:

P.S. - if you click on Tom's name where highlighted it leads to a Q&A in which he gives some nice props to the OAC overall and MUC.

Nice job, JK, on the Princeton Review rankings.  I for one think this is a very important area for us in the OAC, despite the fact that it isn't directly tied to tackling sleds or the Stagg Bowl.    We have many fine member institutions which provide a great balance of excellence in the classroom and on the field.

Here is a look at how the conference fared in the just-released U.S. News rankings as well as a look at the NCAC:

OAC
BW         Midwest Master's - 12th
CAP        Midwest Master's - 15th
HEI         Midwest Master's - 34th
JCU         Midwest Master's - 6th
MAR        Midwest Bachelor's - 15th
MTU        Midwest Bachelor's - 14th
MUS        Liberal Arts - Tier 3
ONU       Midwest Bachelor's - 5th
OTT        Midwest Bachelor's - 6th
WIL        Midwest Bachelor's - 41st

NCAC
ALL         Liberal Arts - 88th
DEN        Liberal Arts - 51st
EAR        Liberal Arts - 69th
HIR         Liberal Arts - Tier 3
KEN        Liberal Arts - 32nd
OBE        Liberal Arts - 23rd
OWU      Liberal Arts - 100th
WAB       Liberal Arts - 51st
WIT        Liberal Arts - Tier 3
WOO      Liberal Arts - 68th

For clarification, the Liberal Arts category is a national ranking (v. regional).  For all rankings, first tier is through 25, others are as noted.   I happen to feel the U.S. News rankings to be a more realistic analysis, but that's all a matter of opinion.   I was an undergrad when the NCAC was formed from the PAC and OAC and (at that time) each member school was a Phi Beta Kappa institution.  That may or may not still be the case, but their members generally, but not entirely, are of a very high academic caliber.
