BVU leads Hamline 20-14 at the half.

The BVU announcers were saying records are new now that the conference changed its name.  I really, really, really hope those announcers are mistaken.

Announcers saying the long term goal is to add schools from many different states.  I wonder what that means...Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota?  Have divisions?  North/South or East/West?  Are others hearing these same things?

That is 100% not true. All records are staying with the league. It's just a change in name. Everything else is the same.

My Predicted Regional Rankings:

1. North Central
2. Webster
3. Carthage
4. WashU
5. Coe
6. Spalding
7. Wartburg
8. St. Norbert
9. North Park
10. Chicago

Thoughts?

Coe won't be ahead of Wartburg after having lost all three games to them in the last week.

A lot of the IIAC schools will tweet vague statements saying an impact player from IL, or a game changer from the 515, or an all stater from the corridor, has committed to their school.  Always vague with no specifics.  There was one today I saw where the coach actually showed the logo of the high school this kid is coming from.  Is that within the rules?  And is it a good idea to refer to your school as the 'dark side'?

Yes it is all legal. That is as far as they can go. As for the Dark Side, Coe has been referring to its defense as the Dark Side for the last 15-20 years.

Looks like the Coe game against River Falls has been moved to Cedar Rapids.

I wonder if off-campus recruiting of juniors would be a waste of time.  When I talk to kids and parents it was usually they got involved with the D3 schools once they figured out D1 and D2 schools weren't going to sign them.  And that was typically early fall of their senior years.

Though, if a coach is visiting a school, or at a recruits house and there is a junior in that same school/town that they have been made aware of, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to start that relationship early.

The 4 kids from our local school that were freshman at Wartburg last fall all had a signing day where the local paper took their pictures signing a "Letter of intent" it was in the paper and on the schools facebook page and twitter account.  Though not shown on any Wartburg social media site...just from the high school side of things. It will be interesting to see if IIAC schools start to play up recruits signing "letters of intent" on their social media sites.

Good for them, D3 kids put as much time and effort into their athletic career as D1 and D2 kids, I see no reason to exclude them and not let them have their moment.

It is still against Iowa Conference rules to do that. Each school is allowed to publish a list online of names of students that have deposited twice a year. They can't include any other information about the kid other than maybe a hometown and high school.

Trivia Question I though of while watching tonight's UWW-Morningside game: When is the last time Whitewater lost to an Iowa-based school? I'm sure it's been a long time, but I'm not sure exactly how long.

Loras AD is also a female - Denise Udelhofen

Three out of nine ADs - good to see.

Three out of eight.

Cornell leaves the IIAC and then they spend money on their football program.  Here are their new helmets and field turf...

I like the helmets on their own, but I think it looks pretty ugly with the rest of their uniforms.

Loras reports today.

Central and Simpson, Thursday the 15th

I think the rest report on Saturday the 17th

I get that Loras would report 2 days earlier than Central and Simpson, since they have a Thursday game this year.  How is it most other teams are 2 days later than Central and Simpson?

Kohawks report on Wednesday, first practice on Thursday.

I don't see either one going for 1,000 yards, but Gage Mohs and Carvin Thompson are going to be a great 1-2 punch for the Kohawks.

The problem in that scenario is the Loras president is a big D3 supporter and St. Ambrose seems to be fairly happy in the NAIA.

I can't think of enough catholic D3 schools that would be interested.  There are close to enough catholic schools in the MSFA, which is a football only conference with St. Ambrose that they might consider forming an all-sports conference.  Who knows.

It would be interesting to see if Mt. Mercy adds football if they would eventually be considered more of a rival to Coe than Cornell would be.

With the new NCAA In-Region rules getting stricter, I think you will see less and less of Coe vs. Mt. Mercy in most sports. It will likely be the case with most D3 schools playing NAIA schools.

After the mess two years ago of playing Olivet Nazarene and Iowa Wesleyan (then NAIA), Coe will not be playing an NAIA school in football in a long, long time.

Central Region / Re: Scoring Question
April 14, 2013, 03:43:06 AM
That's a pretty clear cut inning. Everything in the "Batter 7 walked. Batter 8 doubled to left field; Batter 7 scored; Batter 5 scored; Batter 4 scored. Batter 9, P struck out swinging. 5 runs, 3 hits, 1 error, 1 LOB." section is unearned.

This was posted elsewhere ...

New football rule changes.

http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/public/ncaa/resources/latest+news/2013/football+rules+committee+recommends+ejection+for+targeting+defenseless+players

Others:

To make blocks below the waist from the side and back illegal, but legal if the blocked player is facing the player blocking below the waist.

To add a 10-second runoff with less than a minute remaining in either half when the sole reason for the clock to stop is an injury.

To establish three seconds as the minimum amount of time required to be on the game clock in order to spike the ball to stop the clock. If one or two seconds remain on the clock, there is only time for the offense to run one more play.

To require a player that changes numbers during the game to report this to the referee, who will announce this.

To only allow one player number to be worn by the same team and participate at the same position (e.g., two quarterbacks on the same team are not allowed to have the same number).

To require teams to have either their jersey or pants contrast in color to the playing field.
To allow the use of electronic communication by the on-field officiating crew after successful experimentation by the Southeastern Conference. This is not a required piece of equipment but will allow officiating crews to use this tool.

To allow the Big 12 Conference to experiment with using an eighth official on the field in conference games. This official would be placed in the backfield opposite the referee.

Have camouflaged players been that big a problem that we needed a rule change?  And if you are trying to hide wouldn't you try to blend into whatever is in the end zones rather than the ground your standing on?  Maybe they should call this the Goodyear Blimp Rule since the idea seems to be to make you easier to see from overhead than from field level.

I would guess it had something to do with coaches watching film as well and not being able to see anything.

Floyd,
Completely agree with everything. It is still wide open. Dubuque is scary and we all know what bv can do. And wartburg won't go away. Coe is the mystery to me.

Was wondering what the coe fans think of the new coach? Basically team as last yrs championship team. Already have same amount of conference losses as last yr.

Through 8 games this year, Coe is 4-4.  Through 8 league games last year, they were 5-3.  Big difference I've seen in the 8-game starts between the two years is that Coe hit 7 more 3's last year than this year and made 22 more FT's.

Have no problems with the new coach.  Think he's doing just fine.  League is tough this year, as Coe's first three losses were by a combined 10 points.

I think the league title is out of question right now possibly, but getting the two seed and a bye is still possible.
