The HSC/CNU scrimmage wasn't really "closed" b/c there was quite a bit of people there. CNU won by 2 TD's. Defensive starters looked good. HSC's first team offense didn't score on CNU's first team defense but scored on their second team. As for the offense, they scored 3 TD's on 3 consecutive series after going 3 and out on their first possesion and losing a fumble in the redzone in the second series. I'm not sure how many seniors HSC lost from last year but they looked really young and unexperienced. Hopefully the Captains are ready for Saturday.

Just wanted to wish Rob Rod the best. He is in mini-camp with the Chiefs right now after a standout career at CNU. Here is a link for the article on CNU's webpage if anybody is interested:

As a former player at CNU, I can easily say that playing Greensboro was a nightmare because you knew they would talk the entire game and take shots when they had the opportunity. If there wa a poll for former players I'm positive it would be near unanimous that GC was the worst sports. It's time for somebody to grow up. CNU had 42 points in the first half and only 10 in the second half??? Looks like the dogs were called off. I wasn't there to witness it but it looks like all players who traveled played. If you can't stop a 2nd or 3rd string offense then you deserve a 45 yard field goal. Last year we were up big on Maryville but they never gave up. Maybe Greensboro can watch some film on them b/c I've witnessed them first hand giving up. Maybe they should have some PRIDE(pun intended) and be able to stop a 3rd string offense from scoring on them. How's that for sportsmanship?

Here are my predictions for saturday.
NCWC VS. MU- This will be the matchup of the weekend in my eyes. We get to see 2 Offensive player of the year candidates on the field at Monarch stadium. Townsend and Hill. Hill has scored 8 times in 2 games and rushed for 316 yards. The young offensive line knows how to run the ball.
GC VS. MVC- Maryville has scored 70 pts. and rushed for 465 yards this year. They are 3-0, however, one thing about this team, they have not scored a single TD or FG in the 1st quarter yet this year. Looks like they have scored it all in the third and fourth. If greensboro could get up big at the half and keep it turned on, they can win this game. Disappointing numbers by Lowe, has only 1 TD on 51 attempts.
SU VS. FC- SU has 19 points in 3 games, WOW!! They cannot seem to find the endzone. They have 454 yards rushing, but only 1 TD. QB has thrown 4 INT'S and no TD's. Shentel was always hard to play at, btu i mean they keep this up, there won;t be anyone there to play for.
Where exactly was the prediction of Saturday's games?

Pride and allsky-
I completely agree with you on the fact that tuition is a factor in decision-making, but was just trying to say that CNU has a lot more than low tuition rates working for them. Another factor that I should have mentioned is the crowd that CNU brings to a game. It's a great feeling playing in front of a packed-house.
H-S was just a joke, I know it's a great school academically and their football team is always competing.

Slowly catching up to the months of posts I've missed...don't post too often but decided to throw my two cents in. All the talk about tuition rates is a little ridiculous. CNU has a nice campus, great facilities, a winning tradition, and a great location. All of these factors also weigh-in. As a former player I narrowed my choices to CNU, Ferrum, and Hampden-Sydney(all guys...need I say more) out of high school and in the end it was a no brainer. I probably would have made the same choice if a majority of the schools in our conference would have offered me a free ride.
As for the ODU factor on CNU, I too believe there will be minimal affect on CNU. There is plenty of talent throughout VA and the coaches excel at recruiting and will continue to get quality players from throughout the state. ODU may steal a few players away every once in awhile, but CNU isn't the only school in DIII who does recruiting in Hampton Roads.
Congrats too on a great career Parsons and good luck with McDaniel.
Great Poems too.

CNU doesn't have their schedule online but it is as follows:
Sept 1 vs Rowan
Sept 8 at UMHB
Sept 15 vs Salisbury
Sept 29 vs Shenandoah
Oct 6 at Greensboro
Oct 13 vs Maryville
Oct 20 vs NCW
Nov 3 at Averett
Nov 10 at Ferrum
Also Congrats to Justin Wood who has landed with the Cincinnati Jungle Kats of AF2. I wish him the best and know he will be a force to be reckoned with just as he was at CNU.

I wouldn't go on ranting about forgetting about the linebackers of last year. Wood led the team in tackles all 4 years he played at CNU. Thomas Horan is what like 10th on the team in tackles. I think the LB's have played great this year and hope they keep it up but Horan may be third or fourth best out of this year's LB's.

I am talking about a higher seed then 3rd. If they were to finish 9-1 with their only loss out of region to MAYBE the #1 seed in the east Rowan and out of conference wins against UMHB and Salisbury.

CNU wouldn't have a higher seed with their strength of schedule if they finished out at 9-0 in the region? Their other out of conference game was Salisbury who beat a likely playoff team in W&J.

D3newbie if I knew how to do the whole karma thing I would add to yours b/c you know what you are talking about. I guess gullet is the only GC fan that has his mind set on one thing and one thing only and common sense can't change it. I agreed with everything you said so I will tell you that I don't think Shenandoah has enough defensive team speed to handle GC, you should be in good shape. The CNU game is like the super bowl for them so they always play them hard, but GC will beat them handily.

I take back the ROLL CAPTAINS if it means they will play like GC next week. I prefer cheering for teams that play the game the right way; with class whether they win or lose.

Man Gullet you are as bright as I thought. CNU is ranked in the top 25 in all the polls you can find except for the GC fanbase poll...and we have seen how bright those folks are. At least BBall has given CNU a little credit. Next I am going to hear how improved Maryville is from last year when CNU won in a 'close' game. GC was supposed to be improved from last year and they got beat worst this year. I don't think CNU will slip up. Coach K is too good a coach that teaches discipline. He will have the Captains ready to play and make sure they take this thing one game at a time the rest of the way out.
ROLL CAPTAINS!!!
