If Derek and Michael Allen got drafted there is basically no way Garcon wont, baring injury or some unforeseen event. People might not like the guy but he is without a doubt the top talent to come out of DIII since Tony Beckham, who was a 4th round pick. Also I can't believe that Paul Hubbard is the 22nd ranked WR, that ranking either means this is the worst WR class ever or the list is complete garbage.

WW returns 4 on O, one each of: OL, TE, FB, WR. On D they return 4: 1LB & 3DL. Plus the Kicker is back. Others have played extensively but there certainly isn't a lot of meaningful game experience.

It doesn't matter who the head coach is, the hawks will still be the team to beat in the WIAC. It's not like he recruited any of these kids or even coached them, what position does LL coach again? As long as the core staff stays on board they will be fine.

I'd be incredibly surprised to learn the rumor was true. First Lance is a WARHAWKGUY. He always has been and there's a real sense of family in that. He's home now. I don't see him leaving after a single season.
Secondly I would question whether Mankato is, in fact, a step up on the career ladder simply because it is a D2 school.
I'm more inclined to think the "Whitewater coach" that was referred to is Stan Z though, admittedly, I don't know anything for a fact. If it is Stan I wish him the best.
BTW, congrats to Coach L on being named the AFCA Coach of the Year. It's no secret I thought he should have been WIAC COY as well. When he wasn't I told him not to fret that he'd be named the national coach of the year instead. Glad to see I was right about that.
Why would anyone be suprised if Leipold went on to a different position, his history suggests that it will problay happen sooner than later. Just because a guy like LK form MU doesn't want to coach at a higher level doesn't mean Leipold wont jump at the opportunity. I beleive it would take a position that is a lot more attractive than Mankato to lure Lance, maybe the ATL Falcons might have an intrest. (Though that too is problably a step down on the career ladder)

January 08, 2008, 01:38:08 PMQuote from: oshfb on January 08, 2008, 10:01:01 AMYou got it. The play was unbeleivable but to credit it to good coaching is pretty weak, it was a combination of luck and out-of-shape Millsaps players.
I'm guessing he was referring to a total lack of effort by Millsaps...I agree it was one hell of a play but that Millsaps team looked horribly unathletic in the video. There were players walking around not even trying to make a tackle. Just my interpretation...However, I still believe it was worthy of the award as any lateral play lasting that long is quite impressive.Quote from: CruAlum39 on January 08, 2008, 09:38:29 AM
How is that embarassing???
It was a play that the Trinity team has worked on every Friday walkthrough for years. They got a chance to perform and executed it to perfection. It was obvious that every player on the field for Trinity knew exactly what he was doing. Someone always back, someone always across the field, etc...
If you ask me, it's just an example of really good coaching and player execution by Trinity, and not so by Millsaps, who had obviously not practiced any situation like that.

The thing about the all American teams is stupid because anyone who has played for one of the very few good teams (WW,MU, & UMHB this year) in the nation know a lot of the guys on the list really aren't that good and wouldn't play at any of the tops schools. It's easier to make the team when your the only player on your team up for the award (and you play crappy competition), apposed to ww who had several. Perfect example is the guy from Wabash, pretty obvious he wasn't even one of the top 3 backers to take the field when he played ww.

Anytime you see a player from Tri State on an all-American team the entire team has got to be a little suspect.

Skunk and I got back from the game yesterday afternoon. This is the first time I have had time or the energy to organize my thoughts and post.
First off...congrats to WW. They played at a higher level than the previous two games. In talking to various Mount fans over the past week, my big concern with WW was that they had a different head coach and O-coordinator (which had to help vs. what they had previously), and they had a mobile, tough as nails QB. Both factors played big parts in WW's success on Saturday. WW came out throwing, and that allowed their running game to get going as the game progressed. Beaver had some great runs, but let's not conveniently forget that he fumbled three times in the game. His one fumble was just one of those DUH moments for Mount.
I think the biggest factor in the game was WW's D-line being able to consistently penetrate the line of scrimmage. Micheli hasn't felt pressure like that in all his time at Mount. Understand this......WW's d-backs didn't "shut down Garcon", WW's D-line (and linebackers when they blitzed) were the reason why Garcon didn't have a big day. A lot of times Micheli was looking to escape the pressure, and had no time to look downfield. And similar to the SJU games in 2000 & 2003, WW tackled AMAZINGLY well. I think #50 was the best defensive player on the field. He was everywhere, and didn't miss a tackle.
WW fans (and not many of you...but more than a few) please don't say "if they would have called the game evenly WW romps all over Mount". McCullough was gettind doubled almost every play, and the one guy in the double was literally TACKLING him as McCullough would start to get by him. These officials didn't call holding ALL DAY for either team.
Garcon is Garcon. Love him or hate him, he is what he is. There are times when I question his antics, but I will take his intensity and skill on my team any time. By the way WW fans....let's not be myopic about all the "lack of class" the Mount players and fans displayed. Your QB sure didn't mind doing some taunting and celebrating with his little hand gestures etc...when he came off the field after that last score. It's college players being college players. No big deal. As for Vince running on the field....well....that is just not something that any coach should do, no matter how crappy the call. Trust me, LK will remind him of that over and over and over again in the months to come. Again....I will take his passion any day, let's just make sure it's directed in coaching the kids.
I think next year in D-III is going to be very interesting. Can Mount and WW reload? With all that Wesley is returning can they take the next step? Time will tell.
Thanks to the Stone Station folks for an amazing tailgate. It doesn't get any better than that. I hope I get a chance to be there next year.

Da' Hawks have been on ESPN the last three years, and they are starting to put guys in the league. A few guys will get a shot this year too. I promise you, the recruits/transfers they get will be insane.

December 10, 2007, 01:38:05 PMQuote from: theaprof on December 10, 2007, 01:20:04 PMSounds like they messed up, the kicking team can't advance a recovery or muff only a fumble, which happens all the time.
Quick question for all of you who know the obscure rules better than I do:
In the playoffs there have been two times that our opponents have kicked on-side kickoffs and our guys have fielded the ball in the air--no knees down, etc.--and the play has been blown dead. Why have they not been allowed to advance the ball like they would be on any other kickoff? Nickoli had a clean catch of the ball in the fourth quarter this week and took off running but the play was blown dead by the refs. WHY?

December 10, 2007, 11:58:27 AMQuote from: jaypeter on December 10, 2007, 08:51:40 AMAlthough this years WW team is much improved from the beginning of the year you would be mistaken to think that this is their best team. Looking at the 07 hawks MUC has got to like its matchups even more than they did the past two years. This looks like the best MUC team and the worst WW team with the biggest difference being this years Hawks team doesn't have a big play threat, they really don't have anyone who scares a team like MUC in the passing game. Chances are your going to have to throw it to win against these good D's and there isn't much doubt MUC has a more dangerous passing game. Also the WW run defense doesn't seem to be up to the standards of the past, loosing Kleppe will do that. Given all that I still think the Hawks have a chance if they limit big plays and hold onto the ball, if it's a high scoring game they don't have a prayer. Should be a good matchup and hopefully a good game, but barring a lot of turnovers (3+) I think the Hawks will come up short again.
I do think that it is interesting to see that at the beginning of the playoffs, the Playoff Capsule for UWW was saying that "this Whitewater team might not be as strong as last year's" and now there seems to be at trend towards people naming them their best team of the last three years. The lost a lot due to graduation and also lost their coach. While I will admit I don't remember a lot from the last two years of Whitewater teams (I was not able to keep up with the national picture the last few years as much as this year), this seems to be maybe their best shot at Mount. Why? They have a good running game that will keep MUC honest. Let's be honest that big reason for Mount's success against the run is their dedication to stopping the run. Beavers will keep them honest. But, UWW has a strong QB and a talented group of receivers that might be able to take advantage of Mount's aggressiveness against the run. Can Whitewater's offense keep up with Mount's? That's a tall task in most years, and could be a major obstacle this year. My best guess? Whitewater will points on the board through the air, but not enough to catch up to the Raiders.
