Sam Lewis, a 6-6 forward at Milford High School, announced his commitment to attend Calvin University on his Twitter account today.

Calvin is offering its education on twitter now?

It was nice to see a solid attendance today to watch Calvin's 67-56 conference-season clincher over Trine. Attendance numbers have been trending up this year, partly due to folks finally noticing the Knights have a pretty good club (we're slow learners on the Knollcrest Campus), and partly due to people putting COVID concerns in the rear view mirror.

Indeed.

Might be time to review admissions standards.

I have it on good authority that certain members of Calvin's Class of 1985, benefited from a particularly weak admissions standards then in place. ;)

This is absolutely true.

Last night was just brutal for Hope. Quillan was in foul trouble much of the game and Evan had 0 points and 2 rebounds in 19 minutes of play. The team shot 2 for 16 from three, but most of those were garbage shots that Trine was happy to let Hope take.

My optimism that Evan is going to eventually get healthy and this team is going to figure it out and turn it around this season is quickly dissipating. Getting bounced in the MIAA semis is feeling more and more like the probable outcome for this team.

"This team."

Anyone have a favorite spot in Adrian for a pre- or post-game meal?

Ann Arbor.

It explains one team's score.

- I'll try not to sound like "the sky is falling" guy, but I'm not sure Hope's woes are fixable at this point in the season.

Last year at this time Calvin was 8-6 and had lost 4 of their last 6. They finished the regular season 11-1, got a Pool C bid, and made the Sweet 16. Things can turn around fast for teams, even when it looks like things are going in the wrong direction.

Caveats apply.

Ain't gonna happen with this Hope team, I'm sad to say.

SVSU 82 Hope 78 F OT

Thomas 27, Quillan 17, Wourman 12, Cheaney 8, Wiegerink 7, Dykhouse 7

For the curious Hope started  Dykhouse, Thomas, Schoonveld, Wiegerink, Quillan.   Wourman saw 31 minutes off the bench.  Fr. Justice Mims and Jr. Devin Cheaney saw around 10 each.   TJ McKenzie did not play due to football, I assume he'd be in the mix for starting or first 2 off the bench.

Take exhibition games with the usual grain of salt but this seems like a really good result
A good result, indeed. If you'd told me that SVSU was going to scorch the nets for 15 of 26 long-range bombs, while Hope was a meager 23% (and 56% of free throws) I would have thought they'd lose by 25. But then I wouldn't have predicted their outrebounding the bigger Redbirds by 51 to 29 and outscoring them 50 to 14 in the paint. Quillan and Cheaney combining for 25 points was also a pleasant surprise. Also good to see Eli Schoonveld able to contribute 23 minutes.

With TJ McKenzie and new players in the wings, this could be an exciting year--with the Hope men perhaps a tad under-ranked in the preseason poll and the Hope women (after graduating their best players) a tad over-ranked? Next weekend will tell us more.

I agree that Hope is under-ranked.  I think they're a top 10 team.  Evan Thomas  is one of the top players in the country.  Clayton Dykhouse, may be the second best player in the MIAA.  Wourman and Quillan both looked good last night.  Wiegerink, Schoonveld, and McMcKenzie make Hope a legitimate national championship team.  Hope seems to have all the ingredients to be in Fort Wayne at the end of the year.

That's some high-class sarcasm.

Quote from: oldknight on December 02, 2021, 09:41:05 PMIn addition to keeping any possible total depravity in check, Bill set a solid example for his players, and the team responded by just playing the game as it was presented, not as they wished it to be.

It's sentences like these that make me wish that oldknight posts weren't so infrequent nowadays.

If it can be kept in check, then it's not really total, is it?

"the Michigan 2020 Promise was made possible by a single, benevolent donor whose gift inspired the decision to offer the Class of 2020 this support."

Generosity more than desperation.

Albion's policy is being driven by panic. It's not sound decision-making. And if you can't spot institutional BS, there's not much else to say.

Also: of course the families like it. If my local restaurant started offering free food in the midst of this crisis as a way of bringing people curbside, it would be good for me and my family, but probably bad for their business model.

Geez, relax people. I suspect that the way Presto sports (the web design used by nearly every d3 school) works is that removing a player from the roster automatically removes his stats as well. Give the SID and others a chance to deal with it.

To this point: Nate Davis is no longer listed on the roster, nor does he appear on team stats. I think FDF is right about how this is a feature of the Presto system. Imagine what Stalin could have done with Presto.   ::)

Reminds me the purges during Stalin's run.

Good lord. My nominee for stupidest comment ever.

Actually, deleting all the former players' stats IS very reminiscent of Politbureau practices (especially under Stalin), where people who had fallen out of favor were air-brushed out of photos.  Arena's comment was right on the money (even if the stakes are somewhat different).

Second place.
