The Coe-Simpson game in 2003 comes to mind.  Wouldn't necessarily call it a miracle but maybe a little amazing....  A scrambling Mike Donnenwerth finds Dusty Kain in the back of an endzone with :30 seconds remaining in the game for the winning TD.

any news on luther? How about the staff at simpson?
My sources report that Lounsberry is out, the new head coach brought an OC with him.  Don't know his name.
At this point, all other coaches still on staff (as far as we know, they've been out recruiting....)

Whats the deal with Lounsberry, wasnt this a high profile deal when he came back to Simpson?  Does the majority not like him, or what is the deal with him.  I know this might be a question that might require 8 pages of explanation so the cliff notes version would be outstanding if you can give any information.
I don't know for sure what actually happened - whether it was just a case of the head coach bringing in his own guy or if there was more to it.  My personal opinion - now that he's gone and my kids are done I'll speak a little more freely - he was very arrogant and even though he had an impressive resume on paper, if you dig deeper it was deceiving.  Game in and game out his play calling was bad.  The kids also did not like or (more importantly) respect him - regardless of whether they played offense or defense.  I think it would have been a bad situation if he had gotten the head job and from what I heard, the returning players voiced that.   Niemann was a class act but in my opinion Lounsberry does not fall in that category.  I will never bad mouth Simpson football as my kids both had a great experience there but a change was needed and from the sounds of it, the new staff will be a positive thing.

From my dealings with Lounsberry I'd have no problem trusting my son to him. Maybe he wants to rock the boat too much and that's not helping his cause?

I've talked to Paul a couple of times and he seems like a very nice guy who is truly sincere. His resume obviously speaks for itself. As I've said before, I'm not very close to the program, but my sense is that he isn't even the "default" candidate. I'll be interested to see if they have someone hired within the next few weeks.

From what I've heard, they've had several very good interviews and they are close to getting someone hired.  I also heard Lounsberry will not be the head coach and may not even be around next year.  He does have an impressive resume on the surface but dig alittle deeper ......  I've heard he's an excellent recruiter but his play calling over the past 2 years was been questionable at times (I'm trying to be nice  :)).  Many of the kids in the program don't respect him

If you are within listening range of a Des Moines radio station, you should be at the game cheering for Central.

I'll listen to it from my "warm" house, thank you.  Can you honestly say you'd be in Indianola cheering for Simpson if that were the case?  Based on some of your comments over the past years - I doubt it.   :)

but I'm sure you'll be able to counter nicely with the most nauseating PA announcer in the history of the free world.

You've never been to a Simpson game, have you...

I knew someone would say that, I'm just surprised it took so long!   :)  In his defense though - he is 88 years old.....(maybe it's time he retires!!)   He doesn't usually say negative things about the opposing team (that I recall), he just says stupid stuff - even gets the Storm players names wrong!!  I can remember many times where the home fans just looked at each other and laughed....  got to point we just shut him out.

WartTrainer:

Get on the phone to those unhappy Storm Troopers at Simpson.  Tell them to get their transcripts and transfer papers sent off to Wartburg.  We'll take them.  Hells bells we have a reputation to live up to.

There is a pair of twins from M-town we would damn well take.  I still can't figure out why they didn't ended up at Wartburg in the first place, but hey we'll take 'em now.  I have some roofing I need done on my house next summer.  I'll get the local Knight linebacker up there with them and by the time camp opens we'll have them packing their bags for Waverly.

Nothing like kicking them while they're down....   ;)

An emotional Niemann told the team at the meeting he had resigned and explained some of the circumstances.  From what I was told, the rest of the coaches said none of them knew yet about their jobs (either way).  Despite rumors I've been hearing for 2 years, nothing has been announced or was said in the meeting about Lounsberry being named Head Coach.  Good Luck to Coach Niemann, he was a very, very nice guy with alot of class.  We've had sons in the program as long as he was there - 6 years.

Your sons were pretty good players!  In fact, one of them did about all you could on offense in a losing effort in 2005 against Luther in Decorah.  Good luck to them in the future!  Is one of them playing baseball this spring?  What is the Simpson Baseball team supposed to look like?

Thanks Floyd!  Even though we didn't have as many "W's" as we would have liked, we've enjoyed our 6 years very much and hate to see it over.  Yes, both of them played baseball, my youngest will be playing his final season this spring.   :(  He's a pitcher/outfielder.  The baseball team was pretty young last year, we only lost a handful of starters to graduation.   We should be pretty good, but we'll see.

Also don't know if this has been posted yet but I heard from a pretty good source that Niemann was asked to resign yesterday

Heard the same thing.  Team Meeting today at 4:00 - (previously scheduled) I'm sure that'll be a topic of conversation.

What about multi-sport all-conference selections?

I know that Mark Giesmann was not only an Academic All-American for football, he was also a 1st team all-conference tennis player and 2nd-team all conference punter for WB.

Anyone else like to comment towards this?  This might take even more digging to find a multi-sport all-conference athlete.  Track & cross-country doubles, while amazing, should be left out as those are much more common.

Simpson has had 2 in recent years.  Dusty Kain was 5 time All-Conf in football (3-1st team WR and 2-2nd team Kick Returner) and 2 times All-Conf in Baseball.  Mike Donnenwerth was also multiple all-conf in those same 2 sports.

Had to have been better than the mickey mouse crew they had in Indianola this afternoon.

I agree it was pretty bad - both ways.  I wouldn't say it made a difference in the game though.

Just looked on Simpson web site says the other QB is the starter this week , hope its wrong Dietz had a big day last week

The "probable starters" section isn't always updated each week in the press release.  I'm guessing that's the case here - carryover from last week.   Unkrich was probably listed last week since Dietz got hurt at Wartburg and his status wasn't known yet on Monday morning.  I saw Tubaugh was listed also and I don't recall seeing his name prior to last week.  I'll bet you could find out pretty easily if you really want to know....

Well, I for one hope that Simpson leaves their foul mouthed women home and that their coach is caught on video shaking hands nicely after the game. I'd hate to go through this again next week.

No foul mouthed Simpson women will be at the game.  I'll be there but I don't talk that way!   :)  Trust me when I say that Niemann will shake hands regardless of the outcome - despite how I feel about him as a coach, he is a nice guy, shows a lot of class and would never leave the field without shaking hands with an opposing coach.  (He's had some experience doing that after a tough loss the past few years  :-[)

Yes, there are some "silent" Storm fans lingering around this board....

Maybe McCarney and Niemann have something else in common - will they BOTH be looking for jobs after the season is over??
