best of luck to uwec!! im glad the wiac finally gets a chance to show the rest of division 3 football why we are always at the top of the list of toughest d3 conferences. make some noise!! im confident uwec can do to st. norbert's what uww has done to them in the past. im kinda hoping concordia upsets bethel too - they dont have a very good past record against wiac teams either...

well usually oshkosh's defense is ranked like #2 or #3 after whitewater, so lets see how beaver has done against a defense that is close to being as good as whitewater's (but actually, not really near as good...). in 2005, stanley averaged 5.7 yards per carry and had 24 tds on the year. against oshkosh that year he had an average of 4.7 yards per carry and didnt score. but then again, he didnt need to - whitewater had jim leszczynski and derrick stanley. in 2006, stanley averaged 5.1 yards per carry. against oshkosh he averaged 5.0 yards per carry, 218 yards on 43 attempts. however, if you take away his only big play (97 yard touchdown run) the average comes out to 2.9 yards per carry. didnt really matter though, whitewater still had derrick stanley! so far in 2007, 5.4 yards per carry. against uwo, 5.1. take away the 2 big rushes for a total of 50 yards hes back down around 3.9. what im trying to get at is that moriarty does poor against great defenses like beaver does poor against decent defenses (i think if we looked at his numbers against mt union we'd all share a laugh). the only difference between beaver is the caliber of the team. if beaver has a poor game on the ground, throw it to leszczynski or stanley. if moriarty has a poor game, throw it to - oh ya, uwo doesnt have anyone to throw to. as far as an offensive line, i think beaver wins there too - not to mention that one out of every 4 of moriarty's carries is called back because of holding... they are both great backs and are comparable, but moriarty has had to work with a lot less than beaver, hands down.

Now that the season is winding down, any ideas on which players will be All-Conference?? (QB, RB, TE, WR, OL, DL, LB, DB)
P.S. - "UW Whitewater" is NOT a valid answer!

Wendt vs. Stanley. Both are quick, so I dont think speed would be a deciding factor. Wendt probably has 4-5" on Stanley, but Stanley can jump the lights out. I am not going to try to justify who is better, but I do believe that Wendt may look better due to surrounding factors - Example: Wendt is UWS's only receiving threat, whereas UWW shows they can spread the ball around more. The answer to the Wendt vs. Stanley question is tougher than a lot of people may think.
For the games, I would have to take UWEC over UWO because of the loss of Patek at QB and UWO's ability to seem to lose every close game they are in. I would go with the Poineers over the Pointers. I know the Pointers are riding a high, but I think these OT wins are showing more luck than anything else. UWL over UWRF (no explaination needed). Finally, we would all like to see UWS get back on track and upset the Warhawks, but we also all know that the probability of that happening is unlikely. UWW rolls.
But who will have a better game?? Wendt or Stanley??

UWEC has a pretty good QB - one who isn't affraid to run for quality yards if his receivers are not open. They also have two tall, fast receivers and more recently, they started a freshman halfback. UWEC runs a fairly balanced attack and uses screens to catch their sleeping opponents.
PS UWPSuperfan, I'm sorry but I have to agree with everyone else - if anyone deserves a playoff bid it would be UWL, unless (of course) your "beloved" Pioneers can win out and UWL is upended in both of their remaining games!! Highly unlikely...

Speaking of defenses.... what is going on in Oshkosh?? In their last game against UWSP, they held the Pointers to 24 yards rushing on 19 attempts (Childs - 13 yards, Borchart - 6 yards, Robinson - 5 yards). #2 scoring defense (16 ppg), #1 pass defense, #3 rush defense, #2 total defense in the conference. Given all this, their record is 4-4?? The only place you really need to look to answer this question is under the "turnover margin" heading. While standing #3 in the conference by forcing 20 defensive turnovers, UWO still has a negative turnover margin. The UW-Zero offense has 21 turnovers - 5 more than the offensive turnover runner-up(s)! It is a shame to see a defense that can excel like this with only a 4-4 record. I definitely have a defensive bias when it comes to football, but this is obvious to anyone, i believe. That's where I come to the old saying "offense wins games, defense wins championships." But in UWO's case, you can't even BE in a championship if you don't win the games leading to it. Great season UWO defense, I just thought you deserved some recognition...

UWW has a very potent defense nonetheless. However, I do see a blaring hole that may cost them in the playoffs.... Just as a previous poster stated, UWW's defense is known to give up the "occasional long ball." Their run defense is definitely top-of-the-line. Their pass defense is ranked fairly high in the conference, but I believe that is due to their tough Dline and blitzing linebackers. UWW's secondary is not horrible, but they are lacking compared to previous years. Their corners are listed at 5'11" and 5'6". Like I said, this may end up being their demise. UWW does not have a Teeples (UWL), Radtke (UWO), or Fitts (UWS) that has the potential to make big plays and keep opposing receivers under watch. Garcon may tear them up again this year if they face off in the playoffs....
P.S. Sorry for turning this into the "Whitewater board" again....

Hi all, first-time poster...
Tough break for UWW and Beaver. However, I have no doubt in my mind that this injury does NOT signify the end of UWW's offensive production. All the other weapons will step up and continue to perform well, and more importantly, the O line will continue to open gaping holes for the next guy to run through. No offense to Beaver and his athletic talent, but I think most of the other running backs in this conference could do well behind UWW's big uglies.
