First time I have ever seen a Wabash Defense give up.......  First time ever.....

Coaches didn't have the team ready....  Wabash did not fight today!   I've never seen anything like this from a Wabash Football team.   A disgraceful performance.

WOW....

Now, now....the obvious explanation for this apocalyptic turn of events is those dang Mayans  ;)

That explains Kenyon, too, Lass! Welcome back!

Now Smed.....can't blame everything on the Mayans.....methinks Woo is just sucking  :-\

speaking of wooster enjoying the intra-banter. but where is scotlass the voice of sanity and logic in ncac & woooster?

old wabash:
How delightful to be missed ;D I did post responses to some items back in July.......July 21st to be exact.

Post #1 in response to some musings about Wooster's potential for spectacular defense:
"Not to be a party pooper.....BUT, here lies the area of concern for Woo. The D-line lost starters Byrne and Brown at DT, both big, aggressive, experienced players. Wade at DE returns but Drake at DE, arguably the most aggressive player at DE, is not returning. Hope springs eternal that the new D-line will step it up and alleviate any concerns"

Post #2 in response to some musings about Wooster having whalloped Witt last season and this year's expectations:
"Easy now..........

.......see if you read the article and think back a bit, Witt had injuries to some very significant players last season. 3 of their 4 losses were by 3 pts, one of those in OT. Woo played a heck of a final game against Witt in a perfect storm that combined Witt's injuries, Woo's home field, and horrific weather in a muddy mess that played to Woo's strengths.

What Witt is returning is a healthy group of players that beat the bejesus out of Woo at Witt the previous season, 58-7, in one of the most demoralizing games I have had the misfortune to see in person"

Sooooooo......I haven't had anything particularly new to add ;)

BESIDES.....I have cut back on internet access so I can show my support by sending everything I save to the Wooster general fund.......it's my penance for my tendency to critique ;)

According to Wittenberg's season outlook, they return 21 starters (counting the kickers), including all 11 on offense. Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

That is the same Offense that scored a total of 10 pts vs Wabash and Wooster!

Defensive Line

All three took major hits and I don't see a big difference in the 3 groups yet.

1)   Wabash might have the least returning starts but Whyde is a STUD! I think he is Wabash's best chance to NCAC Defensive Player of the year.  Plus, guys like McClintic, Cloggins, and Brock provide to be more than quality backups a year ago with plenty of time under their belts.
2)   Wooster, with Wade, Drake, Moore, and Kurt Brown all back this group barley edges out Wittenburg's group.  Wooster will not be lacking size up front.
3)   Wittenburg returns Vallery off a nice sophomore season and I look for Sherer to take over where he a Davis left off.  The big question for Wittenburg will be SIZE Depth on the DL.  Little guys tend to get hurt easier than big guys and Witt is little up front.

I think the NCAC should go with OAC non-conference games after this UAA contract is done. That would give us a barometer and great smack talk with our bras over at the OAC.

From 2004-2007 Witt and Woo went this route.

WITT                                                  WOO

2004 Capital    L                                          2004  Muskingum      W
2005 Capital    L                                          2005  Muskingum      W
          Dayton   L
2006 Capital    L                                          2006  John Carroll      W
          Dayton   L
          Capital   L (playoffs)
2007  Capital   L                                          2007  John Carroll     L

Now Witt really took the plunge into scheduling strong non-conference games. In 06 they would have won the conference and probably faced Cap in the playoffs with similar results even if they had scheduled softer non-conference games which would have been more likely W's.

Woo took a softer plunge into scheduling OAC teams as non-conference games. I doubt their playoff appearance in 2004 had anything to do with playing Muskingum. I'm pretty sure that had to do with a very strong team and a once in a life time player named Sutton.

I don't think these results provided much smack to talk with our bras or bros over on the OAC board. ;D But one does have to congratulate Woo and more so Witt for talking about it and then actually taking the plunge. Interesting to note that neither Witt or Woo managed to win the NCAC this year after 4 years of scheduling OAC non-conference games ;) Methinks there's a bit more to it.

Scotlass- Witt was a member of the OAC during the '70s, representing that conference in the '73, '75, '78 and '79 Stagg. They lost the '78 Stagg to B-W (also OAC) after tying the Yellow Jackets in the OAC title game. During that period the OAC was divided into two divisions, the Red and the Blue, with the divisional winners meeting in Finne Stadium (rather convenient for B-W) for the overall championship.

In '77 Witt and B-W ended the regular season ranked #1 and #5, respectively, with B-W's only loss coming in Springfield. The Tigers had knocked off Eastern Ky. to open the season and B-W had beaten Leheigh. The conference championship game conflicted with the first round of the playoffs, or vice versa, and both teams were subsequently left out of the playoff picture. The OAC amended the schedule the following year to avoid the potential conflict.

Point taken.....I was simply pointing out that you had to go back that far to find a team in the NCAC, now or ever, doing any better than the conference has done since 2000 and Wabash has been a big part of some real playoff successes recently. Until they (or anybody else in the conference) absolutely dominates in the regular season, I don't see better than the final 8 being realistic. Whomever rises to that challenge has a strong shot at going further, in my humble opinion, weak conference or not. ;)

Maybe I over did it a bit, but some are also missing my true point.  But we can all agree to disagree.

onward and upward -
WAF!!!

Congrats to this Senior class that will be remembered for many years.

I do get the point.....the NCAC not being one of the strongest conferences. However, short of changing conferences, I am looking at how a coach and a team deals with that fact and becomes capable of getting further than the final 8.

My stance would be, Bash has had it going on with 2 top 16 and 2 top 8 placings in the playoffs since 2002. To have a strong chance of getting further I would be focused on absolute domination in every game of the season. In my mind, given the questionable strength of the conference, a loss or any wins that weren't convincing would not bode well for advancing further than the final 8. I would define dominating as winning every game by 30 or so.......Mount's closest score was a win by 29.....and I am all about modeling success ;)
