What happens if Springfield loses to SJF this weekend do they drop to #8 any comments??

Almost zero chance of a 2 loss team in the East grabbing a pool C...

I think SJF should get a strong look at Pool C if they win out.  They would be 6-3 having lost to MUC...makes em 7-2, having lost to Salisbury on the road when they led 6-3 at half, makes em 7.5-1.5 and having only lost to Alfred by 3 on a FG with 7 secs to go against AU's backup QB and RB, makes 'em 8.2-.8....I mean should they really be penalized for their record?

Over an 8-2 Cortland?

uhm...was just screwin around...but since you mention it....I guess we will see how Cort measures up against IC, who Fisher crushed.  Fisher also crushed Springfield on the road.  I mean...SJF kinda has two pretty impressive road wins in the East...dont know the answer, but how many other East teams have two road monkeystomps against solid teams....I know, IC sucks right???  Hmmmm...they did monkeystomp #1.   Man, if SJF could only play special teams as good as a 4th grade pop warner team, they would be at least 6-2 right now and undefeated in the E8....ok, smite me now....

Yeah Fisher would be next in line...

Sarcasm...

Look it up...

Yeah we didn't have that in our textbooks, but we probably need our own link for the Cortaca smack to begin, glad you started it!

Before anyone asks, Johnny Ola was Hyman Roth's right hand man in Godfather 2...strangled on a balcony???

Technically strangled inside the hotel room standing by the sliding door to the balcony but on with the discussion.

Glad you caught that!

What happens if Kean goes undefeated in conference, and Montclair drops 2 in a row to Kean and Rowan?  Obviously Kean gets the Pool A....but with Cortland, Rowan, and Montclair(potentially) all tied with 2 losses in second, is there a POOL C chance for one of them?  Are they all out of the POOL C loop?

Good point, the answer to all this would be a conference championship game, I know we are not Bowl Series, but wouldn't that be a great way of settling all this?  Under that scenario we might find out that Cortland really was the best NJAC team after all.  I know I will hear about D3 rules for this post, but think of an NJAC North and NJAC South for a minute...would it be possible?

The new top 25 poll is out on this website and for some unknown reason, Rowan is still unranked.  The Profs lost a tough conference game at Cortland in week 2, and have been unbeaten since, steamrolling opponents in October by an average score of 63-10.  With Kean and Montclair up next, I would hope that victories in those games would get them their due respect in the polls, thus strengthening the East Region for pool C opportunities from the NJAC.

Can I start the annual bitching about availability of Cortaca tix?  There will be no doubt that a bunch of drunk students who don't know our starting QB's name will be scooping up tickets in hops of re-selling them to people who actually like the teams for $30.  The next two weeks are going to be a pain in the ass.

Couldn't agree more...I hope you were able to get into that alumni ticket lottery, I hope with demand down this year from the Cortland side we are all able to get tickets that way.

Here's a shortcut to the story News10Now out of Syracuse just ran on Alex Smith:

http://tinyurl.com/alexsmithreturns

So is Alex on the Russ Alger plan at Cortland? Or was Alger an actual underclassman and not post-grad?

Your post is total ignorance...Russ Alger served our nations military in the U.S. Navy with a full 5 year commitment then came to Cortland as many of our brave soldiers do...just because you didn't have a prayer of blocking him doesn't mean you should ever slander his name on these boards.   Your post is both stupid and un-patriotic.

Unpatriotic? Are you serious? Lighten up Francis.

I was just remarking that it seems like Alex has been in school for a while and that he's playing into his mid-to-late 20s which is fairly uncommon in Division III football. Russ was also an older player for Cortland. That's the only comparison I was making and I was trying to have a little fun with it.

Point taken, I just did not like the perception that Cortland was bringing in players with questionable eligibility.  Alex lost alot of time to two really bad injuries and I think it should be a great story for him.  I don't think it's like stealing eligibility to win games.  The NCAA granted it, it reminds me of the great SU linebacker Dan Conley who had 6 seasons back in the early 90's.

My point being that new recruits WILL know about Cortland... hell i knew about Cortaca before I applied to Ithaca...

True, but what are we telling players about Cortaca? We gotta get them back for beating the 2006 team which finished 7-3? We need to keep the two-year streak of victory alive? This team stands between us and greatness?

The ironic thing about Cortaca to me is that, once it started being a competitive rivalry around 1996, Ithaca stopped being the Ithaca they once were. It also doesn't help that Cortland's never really been a great program. I think the rivalry is a bit manufactured by proximity and the Jug. Too often recently, it's been a game without playoff implications between two teams not really doing much nationally.

That's why last year's Curry game was so disappointing. Here was a chance to really have Cortaca have something extra riding on it. A game played between the two best teams in the East, winner take all.

How was it winner take all with the NJAC title locked up?  Your revisionist history fails to see how you got beat by Curry who in turn was destroyed by Cortland a week later.  Yes you had a great program but the fact is now both schools play football that is very equal with the higher ceiling being Cortlands's especially with the influence of the Jets on their campus.

Nice article on Alex.  Thanks for sharing Fran.

The Russ Alger plan.  That is pretty funny.

It's not funny at all.  Just because he was older than the average D3 player does not mean he didn't have a right to play with full eligibility.

So if 82 were to find a place to store his 4 kids this Friday night and Sat. afternoon, where would he take Mrs. 82 for some dinner and overnight accomodations in the Ithaca region...say within a 30 mile radius.

If you are looking at Ithaca...go with the Mohagany Grill (sp), which is right down in the Ithaca Commons.  Great crab cakes.  If you are venturing out further, there are two restaurants in Horseheads (25 mins down Route 13) right off the highway that are great.  Louie's or Tanino's...both of which are right in Hanover Square.  Hotel's...I would go with the Hampton Inn on the south side of Ithaca.

Stay away from Cortland...they have nothing but burger and fry joints...and the place reeks of sweat, sex, and shame...
Sounds like a jaded Sunday morning for you!

I always like Simeons on the commons for dinner, but they may have been more for the beer selection.  You also have that Farmhouse on Rte 89 across from Taughannok St Park, the name of which escapes me.  The food is also pretty good at that waterfront bar/restaraunt near the Cornell boathouse (before you hit 89/96 coming from Rte 79).

Cortland is all about the beer and sex, but from the few times partying there back in my college days, I didn't meet many girls who had any shame.

If you ever met even one, that would be a first in history...

Well the good thing about Cortland is you don't have to step over drunk kids who can't drink 3 beers all night!

Word is that Woodward starts for CState but coaches are ready to put in Smith at the first sign of trouble.  Players say that Smith looked sharp and quick during practices all week and very confident....might explain the path he was on record wise.  He must know the offense inside and out at this point so should be able to step in and get the job done.  Should be a good game with either at QB.  Looking forward to seeing how the CState defense fairs against Monclair State.  Win or lose, it will be a fun game to be at and watch.  Good luck to both teams....ok...just a little more luck to the Red Dragons!

As soon as Smith is ready it should be time to live and die with him....he is a far more experienced qb who knows the offense much better.  He has played in and won big games before.  As we know, he lost his Sr. year and he has earned the chance to win the NJAC title and lead his team to the postseason.
