QuoteAcademic standards is the primary reason that Chapman isn't a SCIAC team. They actually became DIII with the intention of increasing academics and eventually joining the SCIAC, but so far we won't take them. Maybe with a little more progress the SCIAC powers that be may reconsider, but from what I have heard it probably won't happen anytime soon.

Hi everyone, longtime lurker, first time poster here.

I did a bit of research on this at www.princetonreview.com.  I did a pretty simple analysis of academic standards of the SCIAC schools by looking at their SAT numbers (as recorded by princeton review).  Here's the rankings of the schools in order:

1) CMS (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps)  I know from a friend who's son used to play on the CMS team that the football team is about 90% Claremont McKenna College and 10% Harvey Mudd College-
CMC:
Average SAT:  1400
HMC:
Average SAT:  1450
Team Average (90% CMC, 10% HMC = 1410)

2) Pomona-Pitzer (the same source said that it was about a 50-50 ratio between Pomona and Pitzer students)
Pomona College:
Average SAT:  1460
Pitzer:
Average SAT:  1330
Team Average (50% Pom, 50% Pit = 1395)

3) Occidental:
Average SAT:  1280

4) Redlands:
Average SAT:  1164

5) Cal Lu:
Average SAT:  1120

6) Whittier:
Average SAT:  1100

7) La Verne:
Average SAT:  1027

Now for my panthers:

Chapman:
Average SAT:  1207

Chapman would come in fourth place if it were allowed into the SCIAC - above Redlands, Cal Lu, Whittier, and La Verne.  Can academics really be the issue here?  Does Chapman have such vastly different admissions prerequisites than all those other schools that it is prohibited from joining for that reason?

What do ya'll think?

Thanks,
