Anyone know where Mitch Brecke is headed?   Fargo Froum reported this:

FARGO - North Dakota State's backup quarterback position was sent into upheaval after No. 2 man Mitch Brecke told head coach Craig Bohl that he is transferring to another school.

What once was a solid spot with four capable players last fall is now down to starter Nick Mertens.

"We have a little depth issue there," Bohl said.

Bohl said NDSU will move quickly to add another player, which would most likely be a Division I Football Bowl Subdivision transfer or a junior college player. There are prospects out there, he said.

At this time last year, NDSU had starter Steve Walker and backups Mertens, Brecke and Ryan Parsons. But Walker graduated and Parsons left the team a year early. That left the starting job this spring to a battle between Mertens and Brecke, which Mertens won.

"He felt like Nick established himself and he wanted the opportunity to play more than just a backup role," Bohl said.

Olefan, You honestly expect to get an upgrade having sent a coach to the NFL?

I would disagree with all of you guys...outside of Olaf's passing attack which was no doubt talented and senior oriented, Augsburg's passing attack is and will be the best in the MIAC next year.  Having reviewed many tapes of each team in the MIAC, I will stand by my earlier post, there is no better quarterback than Augsburg's in the MIAC (mechanically/physically)...there is a reason why he scorched Bethel's "D".  Bethel has average/good corners and two great safeties...granted Wagner is more of a run stopper (leads the team in tackles) which occurs on numerous 3-4 (odd front) teams.

I think the part you guys are missing is the fact the interview was done over the phone, and not in studio.

Newsflash...We've got Dan Einerson...different talents and not much of a drop off...

Dutch Hawk...if you're going to be harsh on the interview portion...get your crap together...they didn't get the Johnnie film, just as you didn't get the UW-Eau Claire film...Everything is on hand a week ahead of time...They were making their assessments based on the stats sheet...

Tons of reading...Yes TWS could take Willy Wonka on a first step, second or third step...thirdly and fourthly I can't wait for Saturday's game...Central wins ugly as has the Bethel team this season...It is my belief the eight best teams remain and the NCAA selection committee finally seeded the west region with its' due respect.

Actually Cheese and TWS the awards this year as opposed to the year each of you took home top honors are very comparible.  There were 38 1st teamers each year and three quarterbacks each year and it appears at first glance the 2nd teams are also close in number.  Personally, the best "true quarterback" in the league belonged to the 2nd team.  The amount of talent in the league is tough to distinguish and quite honestly the top four teams could make an argument for every 1st team spot outside of possibly wide receiver where many still could make an argument.

Awards are overrated and are reliant upon various team styles and statistics.  This is why "Team" and "Championships" make the game of football what it is supposed to be and why "fantasy football" has gotten the best of the average fan.  More so than today's culture giving everyone an award, today's era is full of those seeking selfish individual awards.

I am a little confused as to how Wartburg, a team which lost on week five at home could be ranked ahead of BU who lost in week one on the road, to teams of similar placement within the conference?  How STO could get in the playoffs is beyond me, and how a west region team or teams would not get pool c bids is also puzzling.  I don't think the NWC is as good this season with Wilammete falling to Gustavus and playing a key role in the NWC outcome and the WIAC is a crap shoot with each team beating one another down.

Referring back to LAB's comments on the OLAF blow out, what is with sports talk determining when enough is enough.  Granted the OLAF case was a little extrodinare and overdone, I'm sick of the Patriots talk.  As much as I don't like Spurrier, I agree with this statement "You coach your team, I'll coach mine."

The All-American Teams are out, congrats to Porta, Wassink, B. Carr, Gunderson, and McNamara.  It is a shame how they put together the west region and All-American teams based on stats alone...Pat never did respond to my prior post?

BUDefense:  It is all based on stats from what I can tell...Don't get me wrong Mattson at Augsburg is a good player, but when your defense is on the field for 100 plays a game and you're the best player out there, you're going to rack up some stats.  Pat, If this were the case (community service, academics, and athletics)  why was he nominated as the MIAC MVP?  Best player in the conference yet he's on the third team...Best defensive player on the team...yet he's on the third team...Knowing him he could probably care less about his accolades however the man is a definite 1st team All-American candidate and he qualifies as a 3rd teamer in the region?  The other interesting point here is this shows how tough the west region is, proving the point our west region and the OAC are far and away the best in football.

I haven't necessarily read through all of these pages since the game but feel there were three big contributors to Bethel's defeat.

-Injuries first and foremost.  Not only did Porta not play, both starting safeties for the Royals made early exits including B. Carr after the second series and J. Wagner half way through the second half.  J. Evans also missed some time in the first half but eventually returned while the Bethel runningbacks took a pounding and from the sounds of it may have experienced concussions.  This was a very physical game and I don't think either team will be able to physically keep up with Whitewater after such a game.  Both LAX running backs were also battered and missed significant time!

-Secondly the play-calling was great the whole game on both sides of the ball as adjustments were made by the defense and the offense figured out a way to punch it in after going 0-2 on the first two trips into the red zone.  The one play call that hurt however was the 4th and short snap over the head of 5'6" J. Bangs.  I'm sure the coaches look back and regret the call in terms of situation and personnel.

-Lastly and I'm glad no one has beat this up on the board, however the officiating was brutal at times and very favorable towards UWLAX.  The interception that wasn't ever posessed, the phantom illegal block call way behind the 65 yd. play, the completed pass by LAX that was fumbled and called incomplete.  I could go on with obvious little stuff however these three big calls were hard to watch!

-T. Davis, S. Luebke, and B. Wetzell will be back next season along with all the underclassmen.  Bethel will miss Porta and Carr along with the rest of the seniors however the OLB position is loaded with depth and the running back position will be filled as Bethel always seems to find a top-notch running back and Bangs is one of if not the best back-up scat backs in the league.

-Good Luck St. John's and keep your run going, I'd say it is obvious we are headed towards a Whitewater-Mt. Union Final with Whitewater turning the tide this season.

A couple thoughts on the BU posters...

BUdefense-  I know  you miss Bethel football but, your random comments are somewhat disturbing.  We would all be better off if you'd either A)discuss your negativity with those you struggle with B) share about the various struggles you had personally at Bethel resulting in criticism from board members or C) Give true insights such as the comment regarding the players you've talked to about Saturday.  I know you'll take offense to this however I feel all this talk is quite hypocritical and figured the coaches and namely players do not need to see this.

The White Silly- Is probably the most funny as well as one of if not the best athletes on this board.  I am thrilled to see the relationship you and Wonka have developing, and what are your thoughts on beads?

Chuck Norris Boy- You love him so much you want to have his babies?

Royalachillies- A proud parent, who likes to talk

Cheese- Yes Please

Dusty,  Your favorite poster is back...and I'd like to get silly as well!  Shout out to my boy in the Roch of N.Y. along with silly guy and the pride of vermillion.  Not much to say other than Go Johnnies and Go Royals, I respectfully thank our guests from Iowa and Oregon for coming aboard and becoming part of the most viewed and used messaging page in Division III football (The MIAC)
