Messages - Airborne Dutch

When I was at Central, we always had a pretty healthy contingent of 3A and 4A players on the team but I don't remember a lot of them coming in with the attitude that they needed to be immediate starters. Brett Doud and Cody Huisman were two guys who started off at Iowa State and Iowa, respectively, but made their way into the program after a year or so. They both possessed talent to play at those schools but I think the allure of being at a smaller program with a more closeknit atmosphere was tough to deny.

Ultimately, I think it just comes down to the kids perspective. I've seen small school talent show up and not be able to handle being a small fish in a big sea and I've seen 4A players show up and be able to blend right in and vice versa. If you have a good coaching staff that can keep everybody grounded, thats the foundation and backbone right there.

Had a conversation with my dad about the Dutch today and I came to a troubling conclusion. Central's defensive philosophy needs to change. How many teams in the IIAC run a wide open spread offense? I haven't been to a game in a few years but I remember Simpson, Coe, Dubuque, and Cornell run wide open offenses. I know that the Dutch have the athletes to hang with anyone but I fear that high octane offenses are simply going to present a problem with the 4-3 D that they run. I was never crazy about the Stack 33 but it had decent elements. As a disclaimer, I am not a coach or a coordinator but I just think that in this league, having another speedier player as opposed to a big body would increase the chances that we wouldn't see another near record setting day like we did today. Of course, I could be completely wrong and Coe was just firing on all cylinders......

So yeah, this is a little late in the season but finally back from the god forsaken, football less land of Afghanistan. Nice to be able to actually see Central highlights on the website. Any way, I honest to god have no knowledge of the team whatsoever but seeing Snead on the highlights, it is really exciting to see that dynamic of a QB lining up for the Dutch! Good to be back on the board!

Any word on whether Cecil Shorts is getting a look at by any NFL teams? I thought with Garcon's success, Shorts and MUC would be generating some serious interest.

I would be intrigued by a 10th team but I don't know of any that could come in and be competitive right away. That being said, I liked D. For Question 2, Central was my safety school. I wanted to go to the University of Texas but I didn't get in.

GoCentral, good to see you on the board. Not sure of where you could see this hit other than calling up the athletic department at Central and asking to see the video of the 2002 game, lol.

WH, I'm not sure that that would have a been a 15 yarder. Watching the replay over and over again, Jones made a textbook tackle. What wouldn't have happened in today's football world is that Hodapp would have played the next week after getting knocked out.

Tough to have just one win. For me, the 2002 Central-Coe game was amazing. Down 20-0 with 17 minutes left in the game, Central comes back and wins it 21-20. Also, I would have to go with 2005 Central-Wartburg. We went up to Waverly and won in pretty dominating fashion.

Worst loss: 2002 vs. Wartburg. Tough call to find two teams more evenly matched that year but WB got two big breaks with the long interception return and that damn bubble screen. It was also the game of the most tremendous hit I have ever seen in person. CUI's Jeff Jones laid out WB's Brad Hodapp and bent his facemask causing what should have been a fumble recovery for Central but the refs were too distracted by the hit to even notice.

MerryChristmas to Everyone..............even if they are from Wartburg!

I have to agree with SpeedKills. Also, look at the Geographics. In Mount Union's case, Ohio has three large cities: Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Columbus. Combined, those have more people than the entire state of Iowa. There is bound to be a tremendous amount of talent that just doesn't get noticed. Right now, Garcon's success in the NFL is just another awesome recruiting tool that Mt. Union has. Who wouldn't want to play for a team that is always playing for the National Championship? On the UWW front, have they always been this good or what? I seem to remember them really coming to power in only the last 7 or 8 years.

Seems like mother nature wanted me to feel like I'm at home. It snowed yesterday here in Afghanistan. Didn't stick at the lower elevations where I'm at, but I caught of the glimpse of the mountains this morning and they are definitely white.

Not blasting on dutchie's honor; she wasn't there when I was in school!

AZDutch, whats dangerous is how attractive that Oregon cheerleader is. She was CNNSI's cheerleader of the week. Check out the gallery. All I can say is wow. Central never had cheerleaders that hot when I was there.

Do I dare be the one to start the debate on whether cheerleading is a sport and risk the wrath of DutchFan1?
