MMT will exit the CAC on top in Women's Basketball. Best of luck to MMT and CNU in the NCAA tournament.

Yes, best of luck...I think CNU moves on to the Sweet 16!

I agree. The pod is sort of a best case scenario, staying in VA close to home against unranked teams. Then on the other hand you could travel to blizzard country in a pod with a top 15. So much for winning the CAC.  Anyway, hoping both teams win and keep playing for a while!

Unbelievable comeback by Marymount. Climbed that mountain in the 4th Q to get their only lead of the game!

Well when you have fewer players, and a ton of injuries all year long, then your best player will get a ton of minutes.............. UMW could have played its 2 stars for 40 minutes and in the many blowout games they could have really padded their stats.  I think the POY is more than just points, but overall quality of play, at least one would hope that the coaches voting, had that as its criteria.

RE: Le Big Mac and the " Big Conflict of Interest"

Bill Finney has no organizational relationship with the Powers Summer League.  He is NOT allowed to. It is operated, managed, administered by someone else who selects referees from who is available and interested in working those games.  Powers Summer League rents the Marymount facility.  You'll have to ask the Powers League guy why he rents there, how he selects the referees etc.  I would imagine you could ref there too.

"Touch fouls".  Actually if more fouls were called on MWash they would have put MMt into the 1 and 1, sooner.
The only player in foul trouble throughout the game was MMT's Brown.

AAU.  Yes these guys do AAU games too, all the way down to the 12 and Unders.

I have seen them doing Maryland State championship games too.  Gosh they are everywhere and someone that is involved/ follows girls basketball in the greater DC area as much as you are, will see them over and over again.

MaryWash AD and Coach can discuss referee assignments and issues with the CAC commissioner/ Director of Referees.

Fnney's retirement will take him off your radar. You may have to make some adjustments to handle your referee issues.

I am glad I asked the question........... I am feeling better.  A 1000 miles to Dallas.  UGH! I think that song title won a CMA.  That Beltway traffic can really ruin a trip!!  Tell me about it.  BTW, I know Hope is closer to Marymount than IWU .   Its still 758 to IWU and I want credit for every mile!!  Ain't commin round here no more. Thanks for info. Best Regards.

"rorurap - IWU and Hope, with their long tournament histories, have had the same experience that Marymount fans face in this sectional.  We don't have to imagine it, we've done it."

tell me the worse "same experience" so I can feel better about our 758 mile trek.

Also I agree with everyone that this is the toughest Regional.......... 3 top ten teams and 4 top 25 teams in one Sectional.

It appears that teams like Marymount  are an afterthought in all of this and a road trip to the Sectionals was going to happen anyway.   I will offer a comment that will give the IWU and Hope posters a moment to catch their breath.  Imagine being able to travel to 2 sectional sites ( Kean and Amherst)  and still have to travel further than Hope has to travel to IWU.  Now imagine you are not going to those closer sites and are heading 758 miles to IWU.  I hope the 50 or so Marymount fans who might make the trip are well received and appreciated.  ( Stevens Point's big fan base will not be as challenged to make the 300 mile trek).

Now the tougher "road" will be for the team that has to go on the road to play in the sectionals.  Its not just WHO you play but WHERE you play them.......

Actually, anyone who expressed well wishes or who came near or walked through the MU celebration was thanked and kissed, including Jeff and the other who "did a good job".  You would have been thanked for well wishes too, if you had come over to express them. It was a great close game that either team could have won, and a testament to the players and coaches of both teams.

from a prior post:

Let's hope Jeff & his side kick do not get the game and do their Finney favors (as they always do) need to keep their summer jobs I guess.

First it was the referees, then it was the coach and now its D3 hoops poll all setting up the big no pressure for Mary Wash upset scenario.
AHem!  The key rankings that really count are the NCAA Regional rankings that have Mary Wash AHEAD of Mmount. D3 hoops is not the ranking that matters.  So it seems that there is pressure on MWash if it wants to keep its tournament related regional ranking.  if Mmount wins that is the upset!

Multi-Regional Topics / Re: Top 25 discussion

Strength of schedule is a great way to evaluate the Top 25.  But there are other factors.  A team's injury status or key player absence may not be recognized just by reading the scores and concluding that a team barely beat an "easy win" team.  For example, in Kean's win over Widener, Widener had a 12 point lead at half,  whoa what's going on here?  Whoops, Kean's best player rode the bench in the first half, played the second half, scored 10 points and Kean won by 9.
Marymount has had a proverbial "boot brigade" with  5 players in boots/on crutches in early games including Kathleen Brown, a preseason All American pick, missing the first 6 games including the Wesley game, and not starting until game 12.  If key players join a team after a few games that might also be missed by just reading the scores.  Again in Marymount's case, Tara Eddy, a defensive catalyst joined the team after the first semester and has really strengthened that team.  Comparing scores and margin of victory of common opponents is not reliable either.  For example, yesterday Illinois Wesleyen beat North Central by 14 while Marymount  beat the same team by 19.  Both winners cleared the bench and may have been trying different offenses/defenses/player combos or were just trying to keep some parents happy and turned larger wins into smaller ones.
