Grotberg and Long combined to score 25 more points than the entire Beloit Bucs team last night. Hopefully, the bucs can put together a win in front of the home crowd. On a good note, it appears as though the Andy Horton show is back with 25 pts and his second double-double.

What a great story. I think that article captures what it means to be a D3 player in any sport. I think the athletes get too wraped up with what is on tv, which is always Duke v. UNC. If the atmoshpere is what players are looking for, there are still teams even locally that give a fun, exciting place to play. The CCIW games for sure, but also the sometimes overlooked games in the MWC. While the Augie-BC game may or may not go down to the wire, I still think it will be exciting. Where else can you see the Grinnell fun-and-gun besides in nowhereville, Iowa?
Good article that promoting what we love to go see.

From what I saw at the scrimmage vs. edgewood, there were some high and low points. While better than last year, I think that there will still be some issues. First of all, if Andy Horton plays, there will be a noticeable drop off when he needs to rest. Wimmer did an okay job and did have some great possesions. He had at least 2-3 blocks and a few baskets. I still think he needs to learn some post moves.
Lovgren seems to have lost a step since last year. He still has a nice touch, but looked a little out of shape.
Kenny looked great out there. I would have like to see him shoot the rock a few more times. Still has the handles, but him at the 2 guard is a great move.
I was most impressed by mini-Horton. That kid can play. He had the best ball skills on the court, and should be running the point this year. Nice floater in the lane, too.
And if you think there is going to be 10 dunks per game, at least 9 of those will be coming from Derek Carrier. That kid can fly. We didn't get to see him because of football, but he will add a great deal to the talent.
I think the Bucs will be at .500 this year. With a bunch of dunks.

I believe that volleyball would be a good addition. It is the major women's sport in the fall in the midwest

That's a bit harsh but not inaccurate. On the plus side Vraney can sell playing time to recruits and actually mean it. However you define a quick turn around Beloit is about to make one.
I agree. A similar situation happened with the football team this year. A great freshman class came in and a handful of them got the PT they were promised. While it may be hard to see, Beloit teams are headed down the right path. It may take a while, but I think they'll get back into a position to conted in the MWC.

does beloit have a chance for the conference tournament in the next couple of years?? i saw the game against monmouth but didnt grab a program.. does coach v have some young kids playin big minutes for the future?
Vraney has young players playing because they are the best players on the team. Aside from Horton, the Bucs don't have much of threat at any level, let alone experience. If Vraney can get an above average recruiting class this year or next, I believe that beloit will have a chance for a run in two years when some of the main players (kenny, Lovgren, Wimmer) have some time to get a little better and ready to play at this level.

1. St. Norbert
2. Ripon
3. Beloit
4. Lawrence
5. Carroll
Repeat from last season. I think the race should be a little closer this year instead of a ripon norbert beatdown. with ripon graduating so many players, they may get off to a slow start to figure out what pieces they need to win. Norbert will run away with the title again this year. with frost at pre-season all-american at the lead, they may just be entering their prime. Beloit is the interesting team this year. they lost some seniors, but nothing major. they have some talent lurking there in their young team, but they have to improve a lot. their hitting was sub-par last year and they don't have any power. lawrence will have to pick up some throwers with 65% of their innings gone including kangas. they lost two of their top sticks. carroll loses 3 sticks and a pitcher. thery aren't going anywhere unless they move their fences in from 200 ft. to about 150.

Anybody out there know why Julian Ross has decided not to play basketball at Beloit? I heard he was pretty good in high school.
He said that he didn't want to be overwhelmed with school and another sport.

Yeah, Patrick Kenny is the FY pg. I have also heard that Horton is out of awhile, but he also was last year and still played in almost every game. Nate Tate is not playing this year. This will take away from the team's athleticism along with FY Julian Ross. Both had good seasons at WR during football and would definitely help on the team.

And yes the refs were horrible. Wouldnt have made a difference int he outcome but they were still bad.
Well conference starts next weekend......we'll see what happens there.
I agree the refs were bad and called a couple of cheapies on Horton. It seemed to me that Beloit couldn't really keep up with Whitewater of defense and couldn't break down the defense. When they did, they just flat out missed everything. Conference does start next weekend, and I think they should have two pretty good chances to redeem themselves playing Illinois college and Lake Forest.

Beloit suffered another big loss to Augustana today 69-52. With Whitewater coming up next, Beloit doesn't have too good a chance to win this one either. It might be hard for them to get off to a start when you go 0-3 in the first 3 games of the season. This could very quickly turn into a long season for Beloit if they don't make a change.

Carthage sounded pretty strong after the weak start. Schlemm really stepped up with 36 points and they had a few others with big contributions. It was good to see a strong game from them to start the season off. Djurickovic said that this is one of the most talented teams he has had in a while, but this is what was also said last year. It will be interesting to see what happens during sunday's game when they take on Gustavus Adolphus, a team they had a tough time with last year.

I followed Carthage basketball last year and it seemed that they had the talent on the team. It seemed that they could just never bring it together on the floor or had some of their better players out for various reasons
