QuoteThe Warhawks caught a break when Superior called a timeout in overtime it did not have

I'm OK with this; logically, Hill figured he was going to lose the ball. Results likely would have been the same, other than a T getting slapped on the bench. Same destination, different route.

Hill played a great game...in hindsight, he should have just forced a jump-ball or flail around and hope to draw the foul.  Giving up 2 points already down 2 with under a minute is tough to comeback from, but oddly enough, they still got a decent look a three that could have tied the game. I am a Warhawk fan, but I was hoping, for Hill's sake that he would have hit that last 3 to tie the game.  Tough way to end the season for him and his teammates.  Good year for them.

Miller had to make a choice in how to defend against them and it wasn't a matter of him not getting the memo as the WSJ reporter so cleverly suggested.  It was a matter of picking your poisen.   It's not possible to do both against Platteville when they are playing well.

Well, the Hawks have managed to lose the last two times at home to the Pioneers. When do they figure it out.  Last year they decided to go small against them and that didnt work. I thought Dustin Mitchell should have logged more minutes against P'ville, if nothing else, to provide a shotblocking/altering presence.  It was a game they should have won and it could cost them in the long run.

WW hasn't played Mt Union in the regular season for at least six years.   Considering the time lapse and that our roster was entirely different then I don't see how it did anything to prepare them for the Stagg Bowl runs of 2005 and 2006.

You forget about the coaches.  That matters, honing the ability to prepare for that type of competitiveness and the other intangibles.  Trust me, it prepared them!

Given that in the eyes of the NCAA selection committee a win against a .500 CCIW team at home is exactly equal to a win against a .500 MWC opponent at home in the QQQQQQQwhatever a CCIW/WIAC tournament might make sense to those who favor competition but it makes little sense to those who are fighting to get their teams tournament eligible (like coaches).

Actually it would make more sense to leave your schedule a game or two short as, to the best of my knowledge, there is no penalty for not playing as many games as you are allowed.

Until the system finds a way to account for the vast disparencies between the level of competition in the various conferences it makes little sense to stack your schedule with top flight teams when you've got to navigate the WIAC regular season and tournament.  It is the equivalent of biting off your nose to spite your face.

PS. I like competition as much as the next guy but with the system set up the way it is it you have to establish priorities.  Unfortunately most coaches are evaluated by their wins and losses, tournament appearances etc. rather than the strength of the their schedule.

I guess I am just a proponent of: to be the best, you must play and beat the best.  What good does it do to make the tournament and then get ousted in the first round because you have not really been tested by great competition? I think one might take their lumps initially, but eventually it pays off. For example UWW football home and away games versus Mount Union finally got them to a point where they could legimately challenge for that top spot in DIII football.  It was going outside of that comfort zone that improved them...it gave them something to shoot for.

When I first read about the WIAC/CCIW challenge I envisioned a preseason type tourney, but however it was meant, I think it is a good idea and shouldnt be avoided because of cannibalism or fear of a poor record.

They did looked weak, they scored 80 because the game was a free throw shooting contest for most of game and Price carried them offensively...he helped them to 80 despite a lack of offensive movement of their part.  Rortvedt had a lot of uncontested shots...you cant give good shooters those looks...it wasn't like he was hitting from NBA range with people draped on him.

I would say yes, Point would have still won even if Rortvedt would have went 3 of 6 from behind the arc because the system they run is better than what UWW is running.

First, I don't know how anyone could vote for any other duo other than Krull and Rortvedt, but that  is what makes basketball great...differing point of views.

The question I would like answered is : "what makes UWW so inconsistent?"

The backdoor cuts and baskets they gave up last night were embarrassing.  The one that sealed their fate was the cut made by the smallest man on the floor for a layup with under a minute to play.  Point moved well without the ball and UWW's offense looked very weak.  If you dont have movement, then you better have at least one person that can fill it up...and luckily for UWW they have Price and sometimes Anderson when he gets floor time, otherwise this team could be marginally worse.

Pure talent alone can't win games consistently. ..maybe I have answered my own question.

Well, I think the UWW Mens Basketball team is officially under the bus now.  I am not one to say I told you so, but the handwriting was clearly on the wall for me after the early season debacles at home to IWU and LaCrosse.  Things needed to be addressed then, but obviously they were not.

With as large a coaching staff as they have, one would believe they could have remedied their plight of poor substitutions and poor game management.  As other teams have progressed throughout the season, it seems UWW has stayed the same or digressed.  uww4ever observations of this team speaks volumes.  I feel bad for the seniors who deserve more. They have the talent to be amazing...they are capable of being top 15, minimally.

I know that they still can shock the conference and win the tournament and for some that will validate the season and this team...

Congratulations to OshKosh...impressive stuff on the road at #1

The Fans have come to the games for UWW even considering that some of the games have been during break and there is just an overall sense of disappointment from a talented team.

Anderson never really took his game to another level since joining the team. Now as a senior, he has a reduced role on a team that I think he could help.   All the different line-ups suggests that this coaching staff does not have a feel for this team, at least not a feel for what it will take to make them better.  I had been trying to convey my concern about this team and there direction since the beginning of the season, I think most can see why now. This campaign has been a disappoint and yet, it can possibly get worse with 3 road games coming up.  So much for..."at the end, UWW will be near the top".  Sometimes it is what it is.

Very true it could be worse, I am hoping it does get to that before remedies are sought.  I too think they will be dangerous in the tournament because they are talented, but why not want more from your team than a "put all your eggs in the tournament basket" approach...especially when the tournament has not been a prosperous event for them.   I will hold out hope that things will change, but make no mistakes about it, it must start at the top.

Just about every aspect of the game is mental, but a lot of it is execution.  Does a good coach get a technical foul late in a game that is close?  I like UWW, I think they are capable of good things.   However, just saying, "oh they will be there at the end" or making justifications on why they lose games in which they have double digit leads is boggling to me...this does nothing to help, it just prepetuates the condition.  This has happened 3 times at home and almost 4(UWRF).  The 3 guard line-up was knew, it  could be effective at times, but not for 75% of the game.

hire ItIsWhatItIs as coach. He obviously has all the answers.

Yes! Finally an endorsement!  I just tire of people making excuses about UWW.   All of the other teams on campus seem to reach their potential, but the Mens basketball team seems to fall short.

It is beyond me why one would want to match up with a shorter team, it was not like they were pressing UWW or the guard play of Platteville was dominant...we were being killed on the boards. Kori Vernon was having a good game, but he goes to the bench...why?  But whatever, I am not here to argue, just telling things as I see them to be.  Miller has won 100 games because he has had great talent, but  you are fooling yourselves if you believe he has been able to get everything out of the talent that he has had on his teams.  They are capable of so much more.

UWW is underachieving because of poor game management.  G. Riley should not have played 30 mins. UWW needed rebounding and an inside presence not a 3 guard line-up.  The common denominator in the majority of the games they have lost is they have had the games seemingly under control and then down the stretch, they have blown it...regardless of the caliber of opponent.  They absolutely should have won in Quandt, definitely should have beat Platteville at home, had LaCrosse on the ropes at home and should have won that...and of course IWU.  They totally lucked out versus UWRF.  Miller has made some interesting decisions with this team that has absolutely damaged their chance of winning consistently.  The person who seemingly has thrown this team under the bus is Miller.  I said it early in the year, until they figure out who should be on the floor and when, they will struggle mightily.  Talent needs to be cultivated and right now in UWW, it is not happening...it is what it is.
