What's the word on CLU's backcourt? Been a lot of talk on the board about power vs power in tonight's CLU-Oxy game but how does CLU match up with Whitman, Zebb and Macbride? CLU will obviously try to pound the ball inside but I see Oxy attacking with a more balanced offense (as OxyBob suggested). If Betty, Mills and Kostic can hold CLU's muscle away from the basket and out of the statbook, I like Oxy's chances.

Tigersports, you gonna be there?

Oxy lead 40-32 at the half and held of a second half surge by Chapman to win by 5 as tooth posted above. Pretty solid game for Betty, who had 20 points along with 6 rebounds. Ivan Kostic and Connor Whitman lead the supporting cast with 14 and 17 points respectively. 15 of Whitman's points came from three-pointers. Nick Mills added 9 boards and 5 assists.

Chapman had four players in double digits: Josh Flynn-Brown (10), Patrick Carney (12), Miguel Bennett (16) and Jared Kaiser (14). Bennett and Kaiser each had 5 boards as well.

Thoughts on the game: Chapman was lucky to have only lost by 5.  They shot only 30% from the free throw line in the second half which ultimately doomed them. I'm not sure if Oxy didn't play as hard in the second half as they did the first but they certainly played a much sloppier game. Both teams had 13 turnovers, Chapman's coming at the worst possible times (after timeouts, inbounding the ball). If Oxy looks to head to the post-season, which I believe they will after winning SCIAC, they will need Betty to continue to be the team leader but desperately need the big guys to step it up on the defensive side. Kaiser was a good physical player around the basket and was giving Betty and company fits all night. Oxy's next games are over the New Year's weekend when they travel to Cal Tech; not sure who they play however. For those who are interested, the Oxy women's team plays Monday and Tuesday at Rush Gym.Happy Holidays to all.

Great article about an Oxy coach moving up. The 2004 record is incorrect in the article though. Oxy was 10-2 in 2004, not 9-2 as the article reports.

Playing against them for the last 4 years, I've noticed these problems with the redlands offense: They can't run well, they can't pass well, they turn the ball over more than Rex Grossman and they call plays like my 10 year old brother does in Madden 07. As for Collins, you put him on any SCIAC team and that team has an enormous chance of clinching a title, that was my point. Collins is a special talent that the SCIAC may never see again and if you don't think so, you're just lying to yourself. I'm not trying to get all over Collins' junk, I'm just so appreciative that he helped my team win three titles in a row. That defense was pretty good too.

It is the OXY fans who are confused thinking one guy can win the SCIAC for OXY. Case in point, Redlands had a very good QB in Saras. However, the problem with their offense was O'Boyle, who finally left the program. A QB alone cannot make it happen and to pretend he can diminishes the efforts of the other players and the ability of the coaching staff.

How dare you insult OxyCollins by comparing him to a Redlands QB?  Redlands and Oxy are two completely differnt cases.  Notice: Oxy has won 3 sciac's in a row, oxy has an above .500 record over the last 3 years (in fact, it's something crazy like .850), having OxyCollins at Qb is completely different from any Qb redlands has recently had on  their roster (except for maybe that Wabby kid, a source tells me he's the next joe namath ...) You're right, a single player alone can't win every game but in case you haven't noticed, OxyCollins is a superb athlete and Saras, well, isn't.  Having a QB that can do the things OxyCollins can greatly increase the team's chances of winning as we have all found out over the last three seasons.

Chalk up a fourth SCIAC title, and offensive POY, if Collins comes back to Oxy.

Congrats to all on the All-SCIAC teams. Anyone notice any big snubs? I thought the RB from Redlands would've shared 1st team with Oxy's Andersen instead of Rojas from Cal-Lu. Zchafer(sp?) still came away with 2nd team but IMO, he was the tougher back and more of a threat to the opposition than Rojas. Also, the conference leader in pass break-ups, interceptions, forced fumbles and fumbles recovered (Daniel Tromello from Oxy) gets no love at all????

Not meaning to attack any individual person but would anyone like to comment on why the SCIAC is one of the slowest conferences in the nation year-in and year-out releasing information (schedules, results, awards, etc)? I can't be the only one noticing the lack of SCIAC releases on this site and the sciac "website" itself.

There was another (almost) three-peat in the 80s. The Tigers were co-champs in '87 and won it outright in '88 and '89. From 83-89, the Tigers won or shared all but one SCIAC title.
