No doubt...   Andy is a Chief.  His flight leaves for KC tomorrow morning @ 9:30.  He will be moving back to DE...at least for the time being.

I see a Wheaton-NCC match-up in the quarterfinals.

Wheaton Thunder 31-10 over the Trine Thunder.

CCIW vs. MIAA....really?

Here come the Thunder(Wheaton)...  I see an NCC/Wheaton rematch @ Naperville.  Consider this...Wheaton travels 4 hours to play Trine...6 to play Case-Western or 3.5 to play Wabash...and then 10 minutes to play NCC.  All the while NCC plays in the comfort of their own home.

I love this time of year as a CCIW fan.  Overrated 10-0 teams "match-up" in the playoffs, and get beat up by a more physical CCIW teams.

In the words of Coach Swider.... Here we go now hWheaton...(The pronounce as written)

Thunder(Wheaton) 31-10

Yes sir.  Tailgating is allowed in the parking lot.

If only we could have seen this Wheaton team finish the season intact....

Wheaton coming off of a loss never bodes well for the next opponent.  I look for Wheaton to go down to Green Weenie land, take care of business, win the AQ, and move on.

Huge win for the Red Men today...  They did everything, and I mean everything they had to do to beat Wheaton.  The game is about turnovers and special teams and Carthage seemed to capitalize on every single Wheaton miscue.   The turning points of the game both came from Donovan Moore with a punt fake for a TD followed by the slowest INT for a TD in the history of football.  Moore followed his blocks so well, that it seemed like he would never get there.

Wheaton always seems to find a way to rebound from tough losses and make a statment the following week.  This sets up a make or break day for Wheaton at Weslyan next week.  If they win, they're in with the AQ, if they don't, they're out.

Here we go now men...

Beating Wheaton at home has been no easy task.  Wheaton's home winning ways at McCully field took a hit today, but they remain one of the toughest to beat at home with a 33-2 record since 2002.

I think the NC/IWU game boils down to focusing on 3 players.
Fanthorpe, Dunlop, and Ciesel.  If Fanthorpe has a game like he had in the second half of the EC/NC game,  I think he has the tools to lead NC to a close, second half win.
If Dunlop is able to run wild and Ceisel is moving the ball on his quick 10 yard outs,  I think IWU can really overpower NC on offense.
Should be a great game similar to the NC/Wheaton game earlier this year.

If I were an NCC fan, which I clearly am not, I wouldn't worry too much about Dunlop running wild.  NCC is always able to put a good run stopping D on the field, and Dunlop is certainly no powerhouse back.

Prior to last seasons' Wheaton-Weslyan game, Dunlop  remarked in the Bloomington Pantagraph on Wheaton's run stopping abilities saying "wait until the he and the Titans roll into town."  13 carries 47 yds later, he and they, 18 carries 12 yds. later "rolled" over in a 49-14 loss.

Obviously, I don't like comments like that, and I always look forward to a Green Weenie loss. This is one where I will be rooting for NCC.

Enjoy it birds... this is the one game Wheaton fans will be on your side this season.

If I'm not mistaken, the co-champion Augustana team from 2006 finished in a 3-way tie for the conference, at 7-3 while NCC 8-2 won the AQ and Wheaton Pool C at 9-1.  It's not surprising to see a team at 7-3 left out considering there are 9-1 teams left off.

A "down" year for a program like Augie's doesn't consist of only wins or losses.  A guy could average 8 a year for his career....which would be ludacris.....and not be a sucessful coach.  Success in the postseason is what matters to the top tier programs in any division III-I.

Wheaton may be playing with a 3rd string QB, but look how close all 3 QB's numbers are for the season:

PassingGPEfficCmp-Att-IntPctYdsTDLngAve/G
Norris, Sean6171.82
49-76-5
64.5776869129.3
Bradley, Kyle4169.90
38-60-1
63.3510762127.5
Ullrich, Zach2154.15
39-60-2
65.0488573244.0

Amazing how close the efficiency, completion percentage and long pass numbers are...
The yards per game would be much closer if the stat didn't take into account games played where they took a few snaps but didn't really play as much - resulting in a much lower average.

It would seem pretty rare at the D3 level to have 3 very capable QB's on a roster.  This to me has been huge reason why Wheaton has been able to keep winning.  With the running game not nearly as strong a component as in years past, the QB play has been much, much more important.  All 3 QB's have step in and performed very well.

It helps also to have a veteran core of receivers to throw to...

It might not be a coincidence that all 3 of Wheaton's QB's played at Wheaton North...one right after the other.   It also could be.[

One of the NPU blockers on the field goal unit was lucky to remain in the game after he lowered his shoulder into Wheaton defenseless holder.

The Thunder are looking forward to this week against NPU.  Like Thunderstones says, injuries have piled up and this is the week to heal.  No disrespect meant for Vikings fans on the board, but Millikin, NCC, and Augie in consecutive weeks is tough.  Look for the banged up Thunder to roll at home after an emotional win at Augie.

Wheaton is now 34-1 at home since the 2002 season.  I like it.

Yes, I know the 1 loss is too Augie.  There...I said it so you couldn't

A play like that one to end the game could not have happened to a better guy.  Jesse Laizure went untouched to put a hurtin' on the Augie QB.  What a play!

LAZE!

As I posted earlier on the board:  If Augie can find a way to keep the ball for 44 minutes like they did last week, they'll make it tough on any team they play.  If Wheaton plays both halves like they played the second half at North Central, it's going to be a long day for the Vikings.  Obviously, I'm hoping and believing the latter will happen.

Prediction:  Norris to Dreyer....twice.

Wheaton 28
