These are changes we should celebrate. LK deserves to retire while still young enough to enjoy it. VK was going to have difficulty getting out of his father's shadow at Mount, and an MAC position coach is a smart forward advancement for him. LK takes pride in the school and program and isn't going to leave it in worse shape than he found it. The next head coach will not be a replacement, but will be someone LK trusts to take the program forward within the goals and expectations of the administration. I doubt either was forced out by the president or board. LK would not back down from that type of challenge. After over 30 years, the next chapter begins. The landscape of D3 is different than it was in 1986. I expect the new coach will be prepared for the challenges it presents.

From what I've read previously, most of the FCS football scholarships are full scholarships. They're not stretching those 63 scholarships among 120 players. They're giving partial scholarships to 25 players and full scholarships to 50 players.
[/quote]
FCS schools also use academic and need based grants creatively to make up the difference for those receiving partial athletic scholarships.

The decision to go for two was based on the five point rule, which I wouldn't have applied until later in the fourth quarter based on the game being high scoring.
One other thing in play there might have been the timing and the impending change of direction. They might have thought it was critical to get it to 3 before the end of the 3rd quarter. I'm not saying that's right or that the math makes any sense, but if there's ever a thing that some coaches way overthink, it's the wind. I've seen wind make coaches do silly stuff.
That's true, but in retrospect, Fulford threw pretty we going into the wind in the fourth. Wind has been a big factor in many Mount games in the past, including the 2015 Stagg Bowl.

The clock management issues are partially a product of few competitive games. Clock management isn't an issue when you're up by 35, for most, anyhow.
Taking the KSU job is about more than money. It may be a crappy FCS job, but it's still a good stepping stone if VK wants to coach at the highest levels. Not many coaches get the opportunity to become HC at the FCS level straight from D3.

In '85 the team flew to Augustana for the second round game on a charter flight. It was the first time flying for a couple guys who swore it would be the last. LK was on that flight as AD. It may be one reason he is reluctant to fly.

desertraider,
I am also responsible for some of the Mount Union Losses.
2016 Lost to JCU - I was in attendance
2005 Lost to ONU - I was in attendance
2004 Lost to UMHB - I was in attendance
I am to blame for 1994 B-W and 1995 UWL losses.

(Get ready...pontification coming)
Larry Kehres is the greatest coach in our most recent era (1980 to now), if not ever. He is the most gracious, accommodating coach as long as you aren't the media. He has always been a red ass (people that know, understand what I am saying), but has done everything he can to make sure his players are successful in life, and on the field.
Anyone who was around during the 1987-@1990 era saw this first hand. Coach Kehres knows what needs to be done and doesn't have time for anyone who isn't going to do the job the right way. After the success of the 1985 & '86 seasons complacency and and entitlement set in. Upperclassmen were benched for underclassmen who outworked them, and the team improved. LK told a senior friend of mine who lost his position to a sophomore, "It's nothing personal, you're a great guy. He's a better football player. It's a business decision."

It's wrong to presume the worst, but I can't imagine extradition for a traffic ticket, especially in Florida, where the court system is months behind. I hope for the young man's sake, the issue is not too serious and he does not screw up his future.

Anyone want to suppose JB is the one who tipped the sheriff to get Davis his job back?
That seems more like something a Texas high school cheerleading mom would do.

After 31 plus years, Mount Union has won 391 times out of 422 games. No college football team has matched that.
Mount's been playing football since 1893 and has 761 wins. 391 have come in the past 31 years...unreal

The OAC gets a bad rap because of the perceived weakness of the bottom half of the conference. Marietta, Wilmington, and Muskingum all won their lone out of conference games and 'Etta and Wilma are both 2-1 at this point. That bodes well for the 'Berg or JCU possibly sneaking in with two losses and a second place conference finish.

1% for Heidelberg.
So you're saying there's a chance.
