I always thought Coach Barber got the best out of what he had to work with. The FU squad goes to Fulton on the heals of a big BlueJay win. I know FU won by 18 at home. Does anyone think the Griffin's have enough to go to WC and win.

I bet it's the last time that kid pulls that. Coach McKinney is all about mutual respect. Way to go Coach!!! Keep up the good work. FU is just a game out of first. That's one team I wouldn't want to play right now. Huge game last night for Fogerty. I know by the roster that this player is from Winfield, MO. Where was he last year?

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm still trying to learn when to take off the blinders and when to just jump on the bandwagon.

FCnews thanks for breaking things down. Thanks to all the posters for their insightful posts this year. I gotta beleive FCnews is very confident in the Griffins. To the remaining posters, is it feasible to think that a team as young as FU can actually win thier way into the post season. Or, are they gonna need a lot of help. I don't want to get my hopes up to soon. So for, other then FCnews, I haven't seen much posted giving them a chance.

As the Rod Stewart song goes "Tonights the night...".
This might be the first FU game I make this year. Family and weather not with standing. If not I'd like to reads reviews from as many as possible.
You never no who will show up. One person I know will be ready is the Godfather of the Fontbonne Family, Coach McKinney. He will have a game plan and a heck of a pre game speech. I don't think there is a single coach in the sliac that wants to win more. For those of you that don't know Coach, your life is missing something. He is the most genuine individual you'll ever meet. And, He lives for these kind of games. Would kinda like to see him get one T just for entertainment purposes.
My view, looking solely at stats, can some one from WU step up and be the third scorer. FU has four players who will score. WU's experience will be a factor. But, does the young Griffin's still have enough high school in them to come out with more intensity and momentum. I wouldn't be suprised to see Webster lead early. FU will have to let there emotions level off. It will be a game of runs and I think FU has the shooters to put numbers on the board quick. FU put up 77 pts. on the best defensive team in the conference. Westminister was holding opponents to only 61 pts. per game.
I agree with FC on the zebras. The sliac has some miserable ones. You'd think this would have to be the sliac's best crew, considering the conference schedule for tonite.
Go Griffins!!!!!!!!

Fontbonne suprises Mac and gets themselves right back in the race. They have four proven scorers and a team that is full of freshmen and sophmores. I wouldn't want to be an opposing coach looking at another 2 or 3 years of this group. When Storandt, Fogerty and McCoy reach their senior year this team could possibly be the team that breaks the sliac's National Tournament losing streak.
Fontbonne should win at least 2 out 0f 3 this week and get themselves in a great position for the second half.

Shout out to the Griffins. Big win at a place they haven't won at in awhile. I had to look twice at the scoreboard. When was the last time a SLIAC team hung 90+ at the dreaded "Beaver Dome"? Not bad for a bunch of young kids.

Could somebody please explain to who this Gregory Sager guy is and what SLIAC school he is connected with. I checked back quite a few pages and have found that his last comment was a religous slur. To which he gave a backhanded appology. There has been a good thread of conversation flowing and I just don't see what this joker brings to the plate. Other than his superb english skills. Hopefan can you shed some light on this guys ties with the SLIAC?

Just an outsiders thought. Was able to listen to the second half of tampa v. Fontbonne. The radio broadcasters were very impressed with the fact that a smaller Fontbonne squad was able to score from most all positions. But, they went on about the fact that in the second half Fontbonne never quit and really did a great job on the boards.
I think that if this young team gets a win a BC they might reel of a long streak.
I noticed on the SLIAC website that they are saying 14-4 will probably win this conference and 11-7 will make post season tourney.
I've been pleasently suprised that Coach McKinney has been able to recruit the likes of Parker and Branch. Though he isn't quite putting the numbers up yet, but Trevor White is a good catch for the SLIAC.
Don't sleep on this young squad.

From BeaverSID-
Of course Webster and fontbonne have never had a problem with recruits, "Its Webster and Fontbonne"!!!!
I guarentee that some of the smaller schools of this conference have had these problems. I know ,as a fact, that only 2 of BC's players were recruited if you could call it that, Zak Allen and Zeb Hammond. Every other player on BC's roster was pulled from the student body.
I find it very hard to beleive that BC has only 2 players and the rest is only students. This doesn't happrn in this day and age. Unless the BC program is in serious trouble.

Thanks Hopefan - I tried to get to yesterdays Fontbonne v. Wash U. game. But, decided it would be along drive for a bad game (condering WU beat MU by 34). I'm trying to pick a better spot to get to town and see a double header of SLIAC match ups. I was pleasently suprised by FU's score, although you never know how much Wash U's starters get to play in a game like this.

If anybody saw the Saints or Fontbonne game could you please comment. On paper it seems these two teams are in very similar situations. They both seem to be struggling with young squads. Is there any chance of getting two STL. teams into the post season.

ST. LOUIS, — Washington University in St. Louis' men's basketball team defeated Fontbonne University, 83-68, Saturday at the WU Field House. With the win, the Bears improved to 8-1.
Sophomore forward Tyler Nading sparked the Bears to a 7-0 lead early in the game. He scored three buckets in the paint and added a free throw, but Fontbonne rallied back.
Trailing 11-8, the Griffins reeled off seven unanswered points. Freshman guard Joshua Branch connected from beyond the three-point arc, and sophomore guard Patrick McCoy drove the lane for two. Junior guard Chad Fournie scored again and WU called for time with Fontbonne leading 15-11.
After the timeout, freshman guard Aaron Thompson hit back-to-back treys to help the Red and Green draw even at 17-17. Junior forward Troy Ruths scored in the post and Nading drove the lane for two to give WU the lead back at 21-17. The Griffins cut their deficit to one point (21-20) before the Bears responded with a 9-0 run. Ruths scored twice in the paint, sophomore guard Sean Wallis hit a three-pointer, and Nading converted again to force a Fontbonne timeout with 7:33 left in the first half.
Washington U. led 48-36 at halftime. Nading led the Bears with 13 points on 6-of-6 shooting. Wallis added 11 points and four assists and Ruths had 10 points as WU shot .543 (19-of-35) from the field. Branch paced Fontbonne with 15 points and four rebounds.
Fontbonne (2-6) cut the Bears' lead to eight points early in the second half but would get no closer.
Nading led the Bears with 21 points and nine rebounds, while Ruths added 19 points and eight boards. Wallis finished with 16 points, and Thompson added 13 points and five steals. Branch paced the Griffins with 20 points.

BC - I know for a fact that FU's student body is only about 20-25% male. Remember it was an all womens school till about 1980. And, GC gets alot of good athlete's like your Justin Bennett and Bryson Taylor's because of their great Track program. BC and GC have a large are of cental Il. to recruit from. Those small towns produce some good hard nesed ball players. Cause we all know Il. basketball is better.
Anybody see the FU v. Wash U. game. I hope FU was able to keep from getting blown out like the other SLIAC schools have.
