p.s. being an avid reader of this board it has been great to see other posters/readers realize that there is more to the smu "mess" than what skibbity has shared. this would be a non-issue if cormier and rohr were as hard workers and unselfish as skibbity says..

Plus, along with saving the younger guys this move should also send the message that NO ONE is bigger than the program. Hopefully this is the first step in changing the losing ways.

skibbity-

I am sure you are one of those students who you say wrote an email to the AD...but for what reason??? unless its because you and the rest of you class are admitting that you are the most selfish group to come to SMU and think you guys deserve everything because you are upper classman??? oh wait...didnt I hear you quit last year cause you didn't play as much as you would have liked? between the mens and womens program I am not sure who has the more selfish seniors??? you say rohr and dc work hard??? if you mean sitting on their butts and never picking up a ball or a weight then your right they did work very hard.

even if smu doesn't win another game...this big "mess" will at least keep the smu young guys from developing a negative selfish attitude. I would glady trade a few wins if it will improve the program in the long run.

Cards lose to Tommies 55-52 in the last seconds with a Chelsea Wirtz 3 pointer with 7 seconds left.

Cards up 27-20 to St. Thomas at Half.

I am in awe of the conference the last couple years nonetheless this year. What happened to the talent? It's hard to even go and watch a girls game.

Can we go back to the era of Pearson, Freeman Sisters, Rattunde, Heikenen, Colbenson, Ahlberg, Johnson, Monahan, etc???

tha automobile guy huh??  for a guy that pretty much everyone only had negative things to say about, i don't know why you would want to bring him back into things.  Everyone thinks he isn't a good player with the exception of myself and maybe 2 others that post on here

Not that it matters, but just to clarify, I do think he could be a good player. I was simply pointing out that there are probably more reasons behind his lack of playing time than us D3Hoops posters know about.

How is a guy like Carr getting this much pub on this site? He's a headcase and NOT that good...he might even be the MIACs version of Darius Miles.

Note: That's not a compliment.

Not that good.  When have you seen him play?  have you seen him play outside of SMU????  And if what you say about him not being good is true, well then that makes sense he is playing for Saint Mary's.  I doubt you have seen him play outside of SMU, because saying he is the Darius Miles of the MIAC is the dumbest thing i have ever heard.  to quote a great movie "We are all now dumber for hearing that."

on a lighter note, i would say that the lack of conversation topics also led to his extended pub.

Carr is at SMU and has not done much and it is now his junior year, does it matter what he does outside of SMU anymore??

Given the opportunity Carr could be a great player in this conference, but he simply doesn't see the floor enough.

He's more of an inside threat than outside when it comes to scoring, but I don't look at Carr as a big time scorer.  He should be rebounding and blocking shots and being the "enforcer" as labeled.  He carries a swagger with him that you don't see from a lot of players in the miac, especially on a team that hasn't won a game.  Reality is though you still need that.  I also believe their record doesn't show how good they are.  All of their conference games could have very easily went the opposite way and they could be sitting at 4-0, but instead 0-4.

I agree with you almost 100% but if you look at the stat line for Carr he is not really doing either for them. Averaging less than 2 rpg as a post player is just not up to par. Especially for a kid that is athletic as Carr is. Now he does come up with some very nice blocks here and there but in the games that I have seen, when he is playing he tends to get more fouls called on him than blocks for SMU. I do agree with the fact that Carr should see more time than he is getting, MY point is simply that he needs to be more productive in areas other than scoring.

Fightingscotts - Do not forget that you might not be the only person to have seen the SMU Birds play in Winona.

Now since they have played one game outside of winona, im going to go ahead and call your bluff on saying that you saw him play some games...now maybe you saw the game at MAC but if you did you had to be impressed.  4-5, 9 points in 13 minutes, 1 huge block, and one of the greatest dunks i've seen in the miac before.

SMU: whats the deal with these cardinals, they have plenty of talent between the 2 outstanding freshman Lukas Holland and Will Wright, and one of the most athletic players in the Confernce with Carr.  Is it something to do with coaching??? they always seem to be in the games but blow it in the 2nd half.  And why if Carr was named All-Tourny and is obviously one of their best players, does he get to sit on the bench for 3/4 of the game.

Okay so I have been sitting back reading all of these posts about how great this Carr kid is. I have also seen the birds play some games and he has not impressed me all that much. YES, he is athletic but last time I checked, the game of basketball is about more than dunking. And enough about the all tournament team. Everyone does realize that every coach has to put one kid on the all tourney team right. Seeing as how SMU lost by 20 each game I am guessing that Coach Trewick had to pick the guy that played the best, even if that was not very good. And even if he did play well in the tournament, I checked the SMU box score and he is not even averaging 2 rpg. He is being out rebounded from kids like moses and barely has a higher avg. than Mario Allen and Mike Sweeney (all of which are perimeter players).

I agree that the birds are very talented but they are very young and I still think that they are a playoff team. Once they grow up and get that first win the MIAC better watch out!!

Can this board be anymore boring??? Granted Women's Basketball isn't nearly as exciting as a few years ago so maybe that plays a role.

Pre Season Picks:

11. St. Mary's- Nice freshman class but don't have much for upper classmen. Sweeney and Carr just won't cut it

Not much for upper classmen, huh??? Hmm...could you be forgetting about the twins, Rohr, and DC?

I have seen the cards play enough in years past to understand why people are picking them to finish basically last. However, I expect this year to be much different  with a talented group of freshmen and a good group of upperclassman. It's the most unselfish group I have seen in a long time. Most people think the cards have a key loss with Brensley graduating, but I'd say it's more of a blessing.

Did the Schafer twins transfer to SMU this summer?  ;D

HA HA...that was ALMOST clever!!!

Just some information about those Cards in southeastern MN. The cards are scrimmaging this Saturday against Bethany Lutheran and then next Saturday at St. Scholastica.

From the looks of it they brought in a talented freshmen class. They seem to be meshing will with the the returning core of Rohr, Lear, Cormier and the Knights.

I am excited to see what stirs up in southeastern mn this year.

From what i have seen and heard Mandy has a good head on her shoulders and will be just fine at SMU. What a talented athlete she was and SMU is lucky to have hired such a great athlete with a great basketball mind.

NOW to Hoopscoopsmiac....

Here is the deal, I don't care that there are women posters on here who used to hoop.  I could take any of them using my left hand only.  I have played against many great players who played in the levels of D-3, D-2, D-1, and NBA.  I also have played pick-up with WNBA players.  Women cant hoop.  They just can't.  The girl who played in the WNBA had great handels and saw the court well but guess what, she wasnt even close to the best player on the court.  I had a teammate who went to UW-Madison and played on the practice squad for the UW Women Badgers.  He was not a great player but he told me the coach would allow him and some other scrubs to play 100% when she was angry at her team.  When the guys played 100% they mopped the women up.

Top (Proven) reasons girls cant hoop:
1. They take that awkward step when they shoot.
2. Many have to still jump when shooting freethrows.
3. No strength, causing tons of loose balls and jump balls in every game.
4. They reach for rebounds on their tip toes instead of jumping.
5.  At the highest level of womens basketball, highlights consist of slow moving lay-ups and once every couple of decades a weak weak semi dunk.

No offense to women because they can do many things better than us guys, BUT basketball will never be one of them.  I wouldnt be afraid to go 1 on 1 with any women on earth!!!!!!!!

take that hoopscoop  :)

About the only girls I see not jumping are the 6'3" chicks that never had to jump and still don't. Hardly do you see girls jumping on free-throws and if so...so what? At least girls are proven to be more tougher than most guys. Guys constantly are being babies and afraid to push through pain, one thing that I can say is not true for most girls. Girls will never be as tough as guys, but there have been some pretty brutal girls in the MIAC. And I didn't know basketball was about the dunks...so what if girls highlights don't consist of slam dunks. What about all the other aspects of basketball, defense, steals, passes. Oh wait why do I even bother, you're just going to tell me that they suck at passing, play no defense, etc. Back in my day our guys wanted to play with us girls because we never gave up, always outhustled them and were going to push and shove with any guy. Basically your reasons are pretty pathetic...and just compared us to guys because they can do something we physically cannot...like dunk.

But whats the point of arguing with a sexist pig?
