One sobering note is that Cornell played the Kohawks tougher than any IIAC team played them. It is time to break up the Rams, they're getting too good.

Just posting to show off my new signature, which I've happily updated three times this season. I've really enjoyed the mentality with which this year's Kohawk squad has gone about its business. Remember, this is three second place finishes and now a first for the senior class. I have no doubt they'll be primed for Central on senior day. And then, how nice it will be not to sweat out whether or not a playoff bid awaits. The only unknowns are who and where. Hopefully, the latter answer will be Cedar Rapids.

Well, with suggestions that Coe should/could/might be the #1 team in the NCAA D3 west region, it might be best if the Knights just stayed in Waverly tomorrow. They could order in pizza and watch the Hawkeye game on television. It would be a much less hassle.
If you're going to make a decision based on 4% of the population you deserve whatever you get.
Who will be ranked first in the West in the first official NCAA rankings?
Coe (46) - 4%
Linfield (421) - 40%
St. Thomas (268) - 25%
UW-Oshkosh (310) - 29%
Apparently the Knights didn't think staying in Waverly for the day was an option. Spies on the ground tell me Knight team busses have left the beautiful confines of the Wartburg campus and are heading south down I-380. The Wartmobile will soon be on its way west on I-80 to rendezvous with other Knight fans in Cedar Rapids. Nice crisp weather, my lucky UD cap, Pat in the house, and the Knights on a mission, this sounds like a recipe for a Wartburg victory. Put this one in the win column.
Not! Next?

The buzz at church this morning was questioning the example of the Dubuque coach in not shaking the Wartburg coach's hand after the game. Lots of people in the large crowd watched Coach Willis go all the way across the field, and the radio jockeys picked up on it, too. Love isn't required but courtesy is, I think.

Charlie, glad to hear that the player is going to be okay. Always very scary to see a player lying motionless on the field. He may be an Atwater and a Kohawk, but IMHO, I prefer to see as many starters as can be out of the game when the score is that lopsided, why risk a completely avoidable injury to a key player? No need to keep running up the score. Just glad he will be fine.

As heart wrenching a scene as I've ever witnessed today at Coe when freshman QB Mark Atwater lay motionless on the turf after a clean, but wicked hit near the Loras sideline. Father and Coe defensive coordinator Larry left the coaching booth to be with his son while trainers and paramedics tended to him. Players on both sides knelt as the crowd stood silent. Brother Jordan, Coe's starting safety, emerged with a scared look on his face as their mom returned to the field. Mark suffered a concussion, but reportedly had feeling and movement in his extremities. But you couldn't see that from across the field. It wasn't until Larry returned to the booth that I knew everything was ok. Up 56-0 at the time, Coe certainly could have finished without him. But there was still time on the clock. And he's a Kohawk. And an Atwater.

Howdy, IIAC fans. Long time no chat. Just stopping in to say hello and wish everyone an injury-free season. I hope you all win all of your remaining games, except when you play Coe. Go Kohawks!

Charlie, how old do you feel seeing the Atwater boys suit up for the Kohawks after seeing them as kids, throwing the ball around before and after home games throughout the years?

The future of Kohawk football looks bright. Add another to the long line of skilled Coe quarterbacks.

24 hours after the news broke (5 weeks after the incident) and no mention of this? You guys are slacking. Also curious that no media mention of this being a Wartburg football player (at least he was before the alleged crime).
