For any republicans on this site: this  has got to be the least luxurious and interesting  board on this site.  No one cares about their teams.  Too many schools with no fans!  Sad!

And for you democrats: the transformative power of reengineering a fan site for small schools is what brings people together and divides them from this hateful rhetoric.  If you aren't willing to stand up for your teams, what kind of Americans are you?

People are saying: Piedmont  College quietly having big recruiting year.  Details to follow.

This comment has no real feeling behind it in a positive or negative fashion:

Monmouth coach Skrivseth might be the loudest person I have ever witnessed on one of these webcasts.  Could be the lack of cheering (or number of empty seats) in the Monmouth gym, but basically he hasn't stopped yelling since the game began.

I watched a 36-32 high school game last night.  Thank God Grinnell is playing tonight so I can erase that memory from my head.

Congratulations to Grinnell on their win over Wartburg.  The press coughed up 36 turnovers (more than vs. Principia), and there were 8 blocked shots.  The size of Grinnell seems to be better than in past years and it is going to cause a lot of teams problems throwing passes through those long arms.  Grabbing 18 offensive rebounds doesn't hurt either!

He did.  His son had 34 assists.  So selfish....

Interestingly enough, Principia missed 20 Free Throws in the game, and missed almost 30 shots from the field (I am guessing mostly layups and five footers given the way Grinnell plays).  They probably could have won this game and given up 89 to Lentsch if they had hit foul shots and made layups.  I wasn't there, but just my 2 cents.

Grinnell holds yet another team under 80 points.  The coffee may flow at the Saint's Rest... but there have been some pretty confused teams offensively against Grinnell in the past few weeks.

Taking a 3-6 team on this kind of run down the stretch, coming back from 25 down against Lawrence FTW, winning at Monmouth despite shooting under 20% (7-41) from the three point line, COY to new Midwest Conference Defensive Guru Coach A!

Headline: Knox Prarie Fire set all-divisions record for fouls and time outs in the last 1:30 of a game.

Actually Greg, that's an interesting comment.  I think I didn't really plan out my thought enough before to comment that I agree with your statement.

The problem really is that you have some teams from the NAIA who don't mind playing the system because it doesn't hurt their numbers when it comes to their at large bid, and D3 coaches who don't see Grinnell as being a "beneficial" game for their team.

As someone who played at Grinnell I can agree that running the system = fun and playing against must be awfully boring.  Coaches don't want to play against it because they no longer have control over the game.  Players hate it because it's a layup and free throw drill.  None of that excuses Coe, our historical rival, of never scheduling Grinnell for a game... which was the actual intent of my post.

The real intent of my post was to comment that rather than bash teams like Faith Baptist for having a poor team, maybe we should be wondering why no one else will play us.  Is it really because they have nothing to gain?  I am guessing that these games draw good crowds, are fun for people at the respective schools, and while it may be an uncomfortable game for coaches... isn't this what people want to see once a year?  I just wish more coaches would understand that and schedule Grinnell so that our own fans wouldn't have to bash our schedule.  It's not Grinnell's fault... it's just a product of how we play and everyone else's aversion to playing against it.

It is a bit sad that Grinnell is forced to play teams of this caliber simply because other teams in Iowa refuse to put them on the schedule consistently.

While I know that comment will incite some people into bashing Grinnell's style, it's a sad truth that because of the style of play no one is willing to play Grinnell year after year... forcing situations where they have to schedule the Faith Baptists of the world.  People shouldn't bash Faith Baptist -- I'm sure they knew what they were in for before they arrived when they scheduled the game.  Just because they are at a recruiting disadvantage, and have a small faith based school with very few students doesn't mean we should be upset with them.  At least they put us on the schedule... which says they have a lot more cojones than the fools at Coe who haven't scheduled us in YEARS out of pure, unadulterated FEAR.

Time to make my case for Grotberg for POY:

#1 on Grinnell team at 31.1 ppg in 25 minutes per game
#1 on Grinnell team for offensive (49) and defensive (68) rebounds
#1 on Grinnell team for steals (83)

I'm not sure, but in my book that's a complete player.  It's as much a complete player as you could have in the conference: clearly my apologies go to some other very deserving players including Kroeger and Hoch.

See my response to Greg above.  Sorry I couldn't drive 75 mph on I-80 and spell check to meet your collective high standards.

By the way, the jousters that Roop and I met in the Darby auxiliary gym Saturday a.m.  brought on other thoughts.  I couldn't figure out the jousting "system" as there appeared to be some effort to win, but an equal effort to not piss off the opponent.  That was missing in the "Performance Gym" that afternoon.  Maybe the two GC teams and their fans (yes, they both have them) could meet and share some notes.  They may both be better off.

Were these "jousters" extras in the movie Role Models?  Perhaps McLovin was in there fighting with Glee Glop and the Flippidydoos.

Likewise, Viking.  Even if GC wins tomorrow I think Lawrence deserves a shot in the tournament after the whipping they gave to most of the MWC down the stretch (most of which were whippings of teams that were, at the time, ranked).

Should be fun in any case.  Given that GC won at Appleton (by 1) a month ago it should be close.  Grotberg had an off night after all...

Here's a little secret.  That has more to do with the defense then just just cold shooting....

Secret #2: We don't believe that defense exists at Grinnell.  We don't play it, and we don't see it.  We just know that somehow we beat it.
