Foul Calls: The two most common mistakes in BB are when to call several kinds of fouls. If you are fouled after the shot is released, it is not a shooting foul. I see this one or two times a game called, especially from the 3 point zone. This promotes taking a dive by the shooter. On the other hand, if the after the shot foul is not called, it allows the defender to get in a cheap shot that will not be called. The shooter is often off balance and vulnerable.
As a fellow Pioneer fan, unfortunately I have to tell you that the way you explained this foul is inaccuarte. A shooter is considered a shooter until one of his feet hit the ground. He is considered an airborn shooter, even after he releases the ball. So, therefore, after he releases the ball and is fouled, as long one of his feet has not hit the floor, he is still considered in the act of shooting.
If however, the shooter hits the ground with one foot, and is then fouled on a box out, or pushed, he should not be called in the act of shooting.
If you remember back two years ago, Brad Reitzner got this call when shooting three-point shots, atleast once a game. Players and coaches from opposing teams would become livid over this call, however, as long as he had not hit the ground with one of his feet, he was still in the act of shooting. Say what you want, but thats the rule.
Hoping the Pioneers can get back on the winning track as the WIAC season comes to a close!
