Brockport's Mike Avery got screwed.  He should have been 1st Team All Conference.  He carried Brockport's offense all season.  He was their only consistent hitter all season long and should have been rewarded accordingly.

Theres no way Perogi from Oswego or Jansen from Fredonia should be on the 1st team over Avery.  Avery almost had more hits (54; which may be or is the school record) than Perioli had at bats (69).  Perioli only had 6 RBI all season.  Johnson only had 72 ABs in 18 starts.  Thats a joke.

If they are going by senority, thats pathetic.  Avery was one of the main reasons Brockport won as many games as they did.

The OF 1st Team all conference is a joke without Avery.

AND where is Maycock.  Are you kidding me???  HEs not even on first or 2nd team.  thats the biggest joke of them all.  I dont know how they make these selections.  Are they going just on SUNYAC numbers?  If they are thats a shame, because you left off two of the best kids in the conference.

These all conference teams arent even credible.

I definately agree that RIT is the 2nd best team in the Empire 8.  They are much improved over the last couple of seasons.  Obviously, as you pointed out, they have some quality wins (Ithaca, Brockport, Pomona, etc.)  I'm not trying to take anything away from them.  Plus they beat Ithaca's #1 Sottung in the 3rd game which is something to be proud of.

I still think a 4 game series is a joke though.  Originally, i thought the 4 game set would create more of a rivalry.  But i think it has turned out to be boring.  You dont need to see the same team 4 times.  I dont think it proves much.  I think 2-3 games should be the max.  I think they threw in the 4th just to get their money's worth on travel expenses.

The Empire 8 conference is a joke as it is with 4 teams.  I would like to see more teams added to the point where the winner gets an automatic bid.  Until then, I dont see anyone coming out of the E8 besides Ithaca.

Ithaca will get in.  Their reputation alone will get them in.  The committee knows they can safely add them to the mix because they can put up a fight with everyone.  They wouldnt put someone in who gets embarrassed every year.

I think the 4 game series is a joke.  Gives teams like Fisher and RIT a chance to get a win over Ithaca.  In my mind winning 3 of 4 is essentially a sweep.  But then again, the Empire 8 with 4 teams is also a joke.  i think a 3 game series is the way to go.  The addition of Stevens Tech next yr will definately improve the conference, if you can call it a conference.

Cycle,

honestly...who cares if the kid threw his glove.  Obviously upset with himself.  Wasnt showing up anyone.  Felt he could pitch better and was disgusted with his effort.  I wouldnt say its poor sportsmanship.  I rather see a kid upset like that then come off the mound with a smile on his face.

looks like Brockport is happy with their season after beating Cortland twice.  Must have packed up their bags and went home.

Hope they can turn it around, but with only 2-3 pitchers, i dont know how it can be done.  Pretty pathetic when you turn the ball over to upperclassmen with an 8 run lead against a very weak opponent only to let it slip away.  Those guys should have easily gotten 3 outs.  Now look at whats going on.  End up getting swept and then beat by RIT (who is more respectable than Oswego, but should not beat Brockport by any means).

Someone on that pitching staff needs to step up if they want to get anywhere.

i posted about the errors in the big game that doomed cortland in years past, as well as the 2nd game saturday vs Brockport.

I didnt say there was a problem with the tournament at Wallace Field.  Im just implying it would be nice to have a change of scenary.  I thought this year might be it with the Brockport sweep, but now they have lost 3 in row (2 to oswego and again today to RIT).  Talk about a major let down.  But I much rather have the SUNYACs in Cortland than having to go to Plattsburgh

Nothin is wrong with Wallace Field...besides the drive.  Would be nice if we had a change of scenary for once for the SUNYAC tournament.

Sorry if im being greedy...but the drive to Brockport (or Fredonia for that matter...haha no chance) would be much more convenient for me.

so much for beating cortland...Brockport pretty much just handed the conference back to the Red Dragons.  You cant go out and sweep Cortland only to be swept by Oswego.  I kind of knew Brockport was going to have a let down after Saturdays big wins.

Look for Cortland to run the table now, while I see Brockport potentially losing another game or so to Plattsburgh or Oneonta.

I guess we are gonna have to sit through the SUNYACs back at Wallace Field in May.

Freeman Field is nice...the surroundings are great and its a great complex.  However, the infield is horrendous.  Huge lips all across the infield.

When I'm comparing fields, I'm not talking about the whole package.  I'm talking about just the infield.  Brockports infield surface is 10x better than Ithaca's.

In my defense....look for example in the 2nd Brockport game from Saturday.  5 Cortland errors.

In my opinion every SUNYAC game is a big game (yes even vs New Paltz, Fredonia, IT).

Going through their "biggest" games last year in the region (SUNYAC Conference Schedule, vs Ithaca, SUNYAC Tourny, and Regionals) Cortlands defense was pretty bad.

SUNYAC Regular season schedule: 22 errors in 14 games.

vs Ithaca: 5 errors in 2 games

SUNYAC Tournament: 12 errors in 5 games (including 6 in the Final Round)

Regionals: 6 errors in 4 games (including 5 in the Final Round which led to their demise)

All I'm trying to say is Cortland's D better come up big in their biggest games or its going to cost them.

i didnt say the field complex was good...but the playing surface is prob top 3 in the NY and is arguably the best.  tell me who's is better?

I dont care what cortlands defensive stats are...go back through a lot of big games they have lost and tell me what does them in and its errors.  They have the pitching and the defense, but when they lose big games its because of errors.  I didnt say they were terrible in all of there games...and yes i know it came off that way but i didnt mean that.  I meant when they lose, its because of poor defense.

its always cortlands defense that does them in...the D has been pretty terrible over there for quite some time.  They have the pitching and offense...do something with your defense Joe Brown...a supposed national power house doesnt have fielding problems, especially at one of the best infields in the NY region like Brockport.

So much for cortland running the table huh boys...looks like brockport might be the real deal...

How about the work of Jake Dennstedt so far this year.  33IP and only 3 ER.  Looks like the hype for the Cortland pitching staff should have gone to Dennstedt and Maxwell.

SUNYACs might just have to go through Clark V Whited this year.

Rumor has it that Smith may have caught the injury bug, and Ash may be done for the season.  Big losses if this is the case.

ithacas spring trip really doesnt matter.  look at their last 3 years.  2004 they come back from California 5-4. 2005 2-7.  2006 5-3.  Obviously it doesnt really matter what they do out in california.  its a matter of getting sharp by the time they come back east.

and the loss to occidental...no biggie.  Look at the scores the last couple of years. each of the games ithaca won by 3 or less runs.  give me a break.  a loss to occidental is not the end of the world.  coach val usually starts a freshman against oxy anyways.
