Well its really looks like Aurora and Chicago were very overrated. Hope and Calvin and put a whipping on them this evening.  Makes me think back to December when Carthage abd Wheaton beat both Hope and Calvin.  Nice job tournment committee!

I wouldn't say Calvin put a whipping on Aurora, as they only won by 1. Aurora had a chance for the win at the buzzer.

Rather than echo the complaints (which I agree with whole-heartedly), I'm thinking that, at least for the Chicago and vicinity fans, we have an exciting and probably highly entertaining first and second round to witness right in our own back yard.  With Aurora hosting Calvin, Chicago, and Hope this weekend, we can still see some great games locally before we drop the curtain on this season (as spectators).  Anyone posters up for Friday/Saturday in Aurora this weekend?  I hear it's beautiful this time of year.........

Those should be some good games to watch. Since my dad is a Calvin alum, I will be heading to that game on Friday with him and probably some other Elmhurst College Alums, although it won't be easy to cheer for a team that was the partial reason for Elmhurst not making it. BTW when do the times get set?

usee,

You're right.  The committees don't have the power to change the rules.  This is the system that is in place, which came from proposals from the Presidents' Council a couple of years ago.  The condemnation of the committee really misses the point of the issue.  Next year, opponent's opponents record will come into play and that should help some in the schedule issue.

Yes, usee is right. You would think though the committee would be able to look passed some of those numbers to make sure the best teams are in. Unless their hands are totally tied, and if that is the case why not just have a computer pick the teams?

I'm a UChicago fan who saw Elmhurst play this season, in addition to a handful of UAA games.  My opinion is that Elmhurst, had it been selected, would have had a better chance of advancing to the Final Four than any of the three UAA teams that received Pool C bids.

I'd put the Bluejays on the same level as Wash U, probably a touch above because of their superior depth.  In fact, Elmhurst vs. Wash U, with the inside matchup of Brent Ruch vs. Troy Ruths, would have been a terrific first-round NCAA game.

Hoops Dream -

Thanks for the kind words. To me it is posts like this that makes it even harder to swallow that Elmhurst is not in the Tournament. If it is so easy for so many people to see that Elmhurst was deserving, why is it so difficult for the NCAA selection committee?

Either that or the D3hoops.com poll means nothing whatsoever to the NCAA committee.

Unfortunately this has always been true.

Has there ever been thoughts by the NCAA to put out an official D3 Poll?

Weather in rock island right now is just awful. I am staying at a hotel that is just 3 miles away from Carver Arena and it is almost looking impossible to get there. I have never seen so much ice in my life, so if you don't have to travel I would suggest listening to the game on Elmhurst College radio, unfortunately I am the chauffer to the arena for the two broadcasters of EC radio so I don't have a choice.

So can tickets for tomorrow be bought at the door?  Or are they needed in advance?  Planning on attending my first ever CCIW conference tournament so should be exciting.  Anyone else from CCIW Chat going?

rknuppel:

Not sure how tickets are being done this year. Last year I picked them up at Elmhurst in RAF.  This year I plan on just hoping tickets will be sold at the door. If anyone else has anymore information regarding tickets please share.

I know this would probably be a giant list, but does anyone have a list of all the potential Pool C teams?

I suggest you look in the Pool C room for several takes on this question.

Or I could have paid attention to Titan Q's information from yesterday. Sorry.

Pool C shocker, news on front page.

Looks like if you want to make it to the big dance, you better win your tournament. I think will even suprise Coach Sherer who said last night after the game he felt Elmhurst was just one win away.

Looks like the match ups are set:

Elmhurst Vs Wheaton @ 6pm
Augie Vs North Central @8pm

Should be a great tournament.

QOWI, RW%, whatever the number may be.  I find it hard to believe and a little silly that Elmhurst would even be in question to make the National Tourney if they win their next two games.  Sitting with a 21-6 record and taking 2nd place (regular season and conference tourney) in arguably the toughest D3 conference in America.  Among the Top 25, heck, Top 15 all year long.  Beating 5 or 6 Top 25 ranked teams throughout the year.  Thats a heck of a resume.

Think about this in Division 1.  Would there be any way this type of resume would be a bubble team?  Not a chance.  Maybe the committe is putting to much emphasis on a computer number and not enough on common sense.  If Elmhurst can't get in with that resume in the CCIW, then I question our opinion that the CCIW is one of the top few conferences in that nation.  Sorry for the ranting but I just find it really hard to believe.

I find this hard to believe as well. It seems to me that it really depends not only on if Elmhurst goes 2-1, but that 1 loss will need to come against Augie in the Finals.  I would agree that the CCIW is arguably the toughest conference in D3, but with only 59 teams making the tournament it is hard to believe that three will come from one conference no matter how good it is.

Midwest Region
1. Augustana 19-4 19-3, 10.591
2. Washington U. 18-4 16-3, 10.556
3. Chicago 18-4 17-4, 10.350
4. Aurora 21-2 20-2, 10.476
5. Elmhurst 18-4 14-4, 9.889
6. Wheaton (Ill.) 15-7 11-6, 9.706
7. Carthage 14-8 11-7, 9.235
8. Grinnell 15-6 14-6, 9.350.

While their record is impressive, I'm not as impressed with Aurora's gaudy record, given the caliber of many of the opponents on their conference schedule.  I know this is an old, tired, and perhaps irrelevant argument, but I would be curious to see how they would fare against the rigors of a CCIW schedule.  I know there's strength of schedule, or QOWI-type considerations, taken, but I still can't help but believe that teams 5, 6, and 7 as listed above have demonstrated more by putting up the records they have against significantly stronger opponents.  I'll hang up and listen for my responses.

I think these rankings are a bit out of date, but with that said it is quite impressive that CCIW has 4 of the top 7 teams in the region.

As for Aurora their schedule may have not been as tedious as anyone in CCIW's; however they did beat the two CCIW teams they played including a huge victory over NCC early in the year.

I see Elmhurst has dropped down to #14, but does anyone know the regional rankings?
