Messages - NPC-Alum

Mr Ypsi,

I grew up swimming at the NPC pool, which went away a few years back (must have been because it wasn't grand enough for a University).  Way back when, that was just a great community tool.  Guess things do change.

Just wondering tonight (after getting home from the Bears game - ouch) if Greg's statement that NP is playing UW Milwaukee Monday is correct or is it Q's schedule that has that game happening 12/30?  My current plan for tomorrow involves no cold that is not unavoidable, but you never know.

xxx

Just realized that Q's sheet has the 12/30 game betweem two games much earlier than that, so let's call that one a typo and move on.

for the dealy, but I don't get around to responding here very often.

I said "definitely" for me, in choosing McDaniel over Dauksis as the PG of the decade.  I would never dispute the fact that the stats are very similar for the two players.  Dauksis was undoubtedly a great CCIW PG in the decade.

I think (not to in any way drag him in here) that KMark's comment pretty well sums up my thoughts on the matter - if the game was on the line, I would have preferred the ball in McDaniel's hands.

Replying to USee's post - here is one fan's response that Antioine McDaniel was definitley the PG of the decade ahead of Dauksis.  Both were great players and both played on very good teams, but I think that McDaniel just did more for his team than Dauksis did.

Dan Walton, without a doubt, went from an afterthought to a top tier player in the CCIW.  There may have been others, but his is a deserving MIP.

Rob Garnes was a tough call - at times I thought he was both under and over rated.  He did have to be accouted for at all times when he was on the court, though.

I went over to the Crackerbox to check out UWSP and was pleasantly surprised by a basketball game.  Ro Russell hit two free throws to send the game to OT (after NP lost a 10 point 2nd half lead).

In the end, the whatever they call folks from Superior WI's bastion of higher education (sorry - no clue as to the nickname) just shot the ball too well for NP to beat them.  UWSP shot lights out all night and took a W home (by 4 in OT) because or that.

Bob Quillman asked me years ago about NPC All-American Justyne Monegain and what kind of player he was.  I was watching the Bulls tonight and realized that Luol Deng reminded me of Justyne (C85 and a classmate of mine).  Quicker around the basket than a lot of the guys they played agaisnt and able to take advantage.

Of course, Justyne had a whole lot less 7 footers hanging around the hoop than Luol does, but I do belive the two are comparble players.  No doubt Greg will let us know if he remembers differently.

Good luck to all CCIW fans and teams this season.

Berki - you really missed one tonight.

I've watched PG performances back to Mike Thomas and tonight's was one of the best ever at NP.

It's always hard to compare generations and all, but I cannot remember a more mistake free, domination game than the one Ro Russell put on tonight.

His one turneover (in 40 minutes) was a palming call.  That is pretty much the only mistake I saw in the entire game.  I looked at the Loras vs. Wheaton box and Wheaton handled them pretty easily, but Loras is a team that started 4 seniors and 1 junior and the only reason NP won tonight wore #2.

I thought that Williams got the shot off, as the buzzer didn't sound until the ball was going through the net.  Maybe you had a better view.

OK, that'd be later than what I was taling about.  You're forgiven:)

Talk to any player from NP from the 70s through the 80s and IWU was the toughest place they ever played - for a variety of reasons.

Titan Hammer - you're not the guy who sent Mulkerin back to Chicago with a back that looked like it'd been worked over by a cat o' 9 tails are you?

Mau Cason should never ref another game in the North Park gym.  Enough is enough.
#11
Understood Ypsi - that was one of the few calls (both ways) that were simple enough where they got it right.
#12
Fair enough.  That one was easy - so many others should have been but were not...  Good win for the Titans; tough to take as a loss in Chicago.  Congratulations to Titan Nation.

Gant was in the lane early.  What is your point here?

It's the combination of the call - and who made the call, that really hurt tonight.

I'm waiting to hear from Q - but honestly the game tonight could have done without refs for 37 minutes, no problem.

Let me give a serious congratulation to the IWU fans who were at North Park tonight.  They were in every way classy and supportive of their school.
