Doppler doesn't look good for Auburn for the rest of the day/night. That will probably push the 2 night games until tomorrow morning.

This being said, if he performs as good if not better down south, his chances of being seen/signed increase imo.
MLB scouts/teams don't draft you on how good you are now, they draft on how good they think you'll be in 4-5 yrs. Scouts are trying to project how good you'll be. The bigger, faster, stronger, the better chance you'll have in the Minors to develop... so they say.
If you are that good, you'll be found no matter where you are. Fact is, 5'7-5'8 kids don't get too many shots. You have to really have a local scout like you that can convince his regional cross checker to also like you. Lemke, Eckstein, Pudge sized guys don't happen much.
The other thing is, you really have to love baseball to survive in the minors. All day practice during spring training in the Florida heat, followed by playing in podunk towns. Not too great living conditions, not good pay, long bus rides= not easy to do!
Minor league guys go into spring training weighing 220 and come out 190.... that **** can't be fun!!!!

Corland is still one of the best D3 Programs in the country... regardless of this particular situation.
Facts: Mt Olive has had 22-23 kids get drafted or sign in the past 15 yrs and Cortland has had like 21-22.... So you are really comparing similiar programs playing in different divisions. Maybe the kid gets seen by more scouts being in North Carolina and maybe somebody really likes him and gives him a shot.
Maybe he has a great yr and doesn't get a sniff... who knows!
Having Coached Jason and being a Cortland Baseball Alum, I can tell you that the kid did this purely for himself. Doesn't make him a bad person. He feels that he has a better chance to get drafted or signed at MT Olive... Time will tell if its a good decision!~!!!!
Cortland will goes its way, J Simone will go his and SH$$ happens! Its a big loss for Cortland but life goes on and it gives another guy(s) a shot at playing...!

The SUNYAC tourney needs to start on Thursday, period end of story. Weather is iffy at best in NY and this type of stuff happens! The only other logical thing that could be done is move the SUNYAC tournament to a place like Delutis field in Rome. There are 2 fields in the same place and you could play 2 games at the same time if need be! That way, in the case of bad weather, you could get a double elim 4 teamer over very quickly! Bad thing about Delutis is there isnt a campus atmosphere, which at Cortland was always awesome! Start the Tourney a day early and the only way the tourney doesn't get played is a total washout!
On a side note, even as a C-State baseball Alum, I am very happy for Brockport getting in the regional. Tom McCormick, Brockport's SS is a former player of mine and has busted his behind and deserves to experience a regional! Yeah T-Mac

My take is Cortland spanks Oneonta tomorrow and then beats Brockport in a tight ball game in gm 2. Monday brings another one thats too close to call.
It comes down to depth unless Brockport can close it out tomorrow. I think Oneonta has no chance vs C-state tomorrow.
The real question is, if Cortland loses, do they get an very elusive Pool C bid?
?
Not many out there, I think only 4!!!!!
Lets win 3 boys!!!

Cortland looks a little bit vulnerable this year
Especially to Filak and Oneonta. Cortland is deep but IMO doesn't have that dominant #1 guy like Filak.
Offensively, Cortland is head and shoulders above everyone else but a guy like Filak neutralizes Cortland's offense!
Having said that, Cortland is a tough double elimination tourney team due to their depth on the mound and the Offense is really good. Simone is a hitting machine!
Problem for the other Sunyac teams, u throw your #1 once and he is pretty much done for the tournament. Even if Cortland loses in round 1 or 2, they will feast on your #2, #3 and #4 guys for the rest of the tournament!
I think Cortland still wins the SUNYAC crown, but it might get interesting if Oneonta can grab a first or second round W!
Also, both Brockport and Plattsburgh played Cortland tough in game 1 of their respective DH's!
Should be interesting.......

Currently at 11-12, IC would need a miracle to make the NY region this yr. No way with that type of a record and no AQ, Pool A bid available... its nearly impossible! They would need to go 16-0, 15-1, 14-2 finish at 27-12, 26-13 or 25-14 and also beat Cortland to have a shot!
Love Coach Val but making the regional this yr would be a miracle!

April 13, 2010, 11:21:49 PMQuote from: John McGraw on April 12, 2010, 10:29:03 AMHey John, your interpretation isn't entirely true. You don't have to announce anyone into any game using the umpire. The players intent to bat(stepping into the batters box) serves as the announcement! The telling the umpire and the other coach is just a courtesy. As a coach, you can pinch hit when you like without involving the umpire, the announcer or the other coach. Same thing holds true for entering a defensive substitution! After the first pitch, that defensive replacement player has officially entered the game regardless of who was notified.
The umpire has to announce the player into the game as he is either apprised of the move by the pinch hitter or the head coach. If the umpire does not signal the player into the game and inform the PA announcer and official scorer, then said player is not in the game.
The PA announcer usually goes on the umpires signal for substitutions but as someone that has done PA for baseball and softball, occasionally, you announce the sub before the umpires signal. Ninety-nine times out of 100 it's not a big deal since the move is made and Player X comes into pinch hit. That's what happened here.
Brockport will get another chance at Cortland in the playoffs, they can get back at them then.
Think of it this way, what is the penalty for not announcing a pinch hitter or defensive replacement? There is none! You can't call the batter out or disqualify the defensive replacement. You as the umpire, have no grounds to do so! The only reason I know this is because I have it happened to me and I have also done it before! Its really not the most diplomatic thing to do but none the less very legal!
The batter or coach either has to tell the ump of the substitution or simply step in the box!

Andrew Dexter throws a 2 hitter for Utica College against Ithaca in the first game this afternoon. UC wins 2-0. With losses to Stevens and Utica, Ithaca's stranglehold on the E8 may be slipping.
How far have the Bombers fallen??
