Just wanted to chime in a little on the VWC-RMC game last night.  I think DeWayne hit on a lot of what I thought was hurting the Jackets, they just missed a lot of shots that I expected them to hit.  I think they were 1-10 from three, and while most of the shots were decently contested, they did miss some that were fairly open.  I think both teams are pretty evenly matched, and it was a good game throughout with lots of 5-9 point runs by both squads.

Someone asked a little earlier about the T on Coach Davis - from my perspective (as a Marlin fan), I thought he had some reason to be a little upset.  He got it after several shot attempts were blocked in the paint.  It clearly looked like a foul or two was missed in the exchanges, but it was just an unfortunate time to get the T.  For what it's worth, I thought the officiating was pretty bad throughout - both ways.

RMC1982 - I, too, like the way this rivalry is progressing.  In my mind, a win over RMC means a lot because their teams have always been well-coached, and really good.  Both teams are really, really good this year, and that next game in the Fish Tank should be a lot of fun.

Just a head's up incase any Maroons fans are interested...

Roanoke will be scrimmaging UVA on Sat. Nov.6, at 4:00 in Charlottesville.  I am guessing they will have some tickets available for it.

Hasa, you asked about recruiting, and it looks like the Marlins have added a few more this summer, in addition to D.J. Woodmore who was discussed earlier.

The Fish have picked up 3 more from the Hampton Roads area, including two from Tallwood (Aaron Clark and Colby Heard) and one from Norfolk Christian (Jonathan Dawkins).  Here's their write-up from VWC's website: http://athletics.vwc.edu/men/basketball/1038-three-more-hampton-roads-standouts-for-the-mrlins

In addition, the Fish have snagged a high-scoring guard from Colonial Beach, Dylan Farinet.  Here's his writeup: http://athletics.vwc.edu/men/basketball/1059-high-scoring-farinet-selects-the-marlins

Very, very cool to see three ODAC teams in the Elite 8!  Congrats to all three, and I hope to see 2 Final Four teams from the ODAC!

Two down for the ODAC...VWC holds on against Richard Stockton, 85-82.  Chris Teasley led the scoring with 21, including 5 triples.

Marlins knock off W&L.  Not sure of the final, but it was about a 5 point win.  Fields with 30 to lead the way.

Ugh, c'mon man!  Sadly, I think I remember reading that somewhere too  :-[

Regarding Sanborn, I remember seeing him his freshman year and thinking he may turn out to be a solid ODAC post player, but nothing more.  Boy was I wrong!  He's obviously put it in a ton of hard work, and it's paid off big time.  He'll probably end up with the POY title, and it's well-deserved.  Regardless of whether he wins it or not, he's had a great career, and he deserves a lot of props for his development.  Hopefully, there aren't any more 6'10" future POY candidates for the Quakers any time soon!  The rest of the ODAC deserves a break from those types of guys!

Donho,

I can't see any case to be made for ranking RMC ahead of VWC.  RMC has more losses, VWC has beaten Guilford, and the two teams split with each other.  Further, setting aside the three losses each has to the other ODAC contenders, RMC has a L to W&L.

As to the schedule point, RMC may have a tougher OOC schedule, but VWC's in-conference schedule is much tougher (already faced RMC and Guilford twice, and facing the Royals for the second time tomorrow night; RMC only played the Quakers at home this year).  I don't see a case for putting RMC ahead of VWC at this stage of the season.

Also of note in the Marlins game, Stephen Fields dropped a triple-double with 21, 11, and 10.

Looks like VWC finishes out the weekend with wins over Greensboro and NC Wesleyan to jump out to 3-0 start on the new season.  Fields is looking good early on, and Donald Vaughn appears to be coming into his own early in the season.

Looks like RMC has made their coaching choice, Nathan Davis.  Here is an article from the Times-Dispatch about the hiring: http://www.timesdispatch.com/rtd/sports/college/college_basketball/article/RMCBGAT27_20090427-135604/264235/

Here's a link to the Times-Dispatch story about the VCU staff, including Coach Rhoades: http://www.timesdispatch.com/rtd/sports/college/college_basketball/article/VCUBGAT15_20090415-190629/257303/

That's a pretty impressive staff for a mid-major program.

Just wanted to wish the Quakers all the best this afternoon.  Here's hoping you bring another one back for the ODAC!

Congrats to the Quakers!  Do the ODAC proud next weekend!
