Sorry, I likely cannot help...its been posted repeatedly that I know nothing, even "nothing about basketball"...although I can report that it is one person's to lose...if he turns it down, due to a pay cut of a high school teacher/coach or a variety of other reasons~ uprooting family, immense pressure/support from community, etc....and this may or may not be speculation ;)  Commence Karma slaying...............NOW,  It IS rumor that GVW will join staff as a part time assistant

Out of the 1000's of coaches in this country, their two options are one with ZERO "Head" coaching experience and the other option is someone with ZERO college coaching experience....

For those who will say he was the Head JV coach, there is nothing remotely comparable to being the Head varsity, leader of a program, voice to the media, etc...

Well, whomever voted "new blood" in the poll will be wrong.....ho hum

MN and GVW were still contacting high school players as recently as last week.  Memo to all Hope supporters...you are losing recruits and may feel the effects for a year or two or more unless the new coach is an incredible " people person" because your school is lost in secretive, shady turmoil and none of the rumors I have heard floating around the past several weeks, remotely paints Hope Basketball in a positive light.  Were your ears burning last weekend during the GVSU tourney?  Because i was there and This is BAD....AAU is in full swing and you're missing out, unless MN is still allowed to do that too

Apparently the "gag" order has been lifted....and MN is allowed to return to campus to run the summer camps.  One piece I was not aware of- he "owns" the camp and it's techniqually not a Hope College function, simply run through their facilities.  Can someone confirm this nugget of information?

Olivet...SG Jake Arnston from Jenison...ceiling is high on this shooter, who unlike most, did not play AAU at all in his spare time.  Numbers were down his senior year due to new offensive philosophies and only being allowed to play with one basketball at a time (they have 5 guys playing college hoops and all were trying to impress... ya know what I'm sayin)  Excels on the baseball diamond as well

1. Completely related to the fallout
2. I'll wait for the Sentinel to write about it in two months. protecting the Karma and some people on this board don't like that some people are "in the know" for things they want to know!
3. MN is still running the basketball camps at Hope...it has been confirmed tenfold.  Are they going to move their morning staff meetings to the Long John Silvers parking lot?

***Yeah,  there's the haters ;) ***

Not sure where is list of basketball non-binding "commits" can be found but Hope College is officially down one as of Friday

I wanted to say that too but am trying really hard to build karma....it's a new year, a new me.  The brochure was likely created a while back but I spoke to a coach who has taken his program there for years and he said that this week, MN clearly stated " he was still running it"

I was also informed by a fairly credible source that Dr. Carlson was encouraged to take on a greater role and responsibility than JV head but less than Head Coach....I thought that tidbit was odd.....and apparently, although someone is not allowed on campus due to impending litigation, he/she is still able to run the summer team camps through said college.....I thought that tidbit was odd as well...

WOTS is that Hope has added another professor to their faculty.  Professor Carlson.  Wonder if he is any relation to the Carlson's that played at Hope and coached basketball there? ;) Possibly this is old news? I have no official proof, so I'll refrain from sharing the other tidbits heard in the last day

Well, the Master's Degree requirement automatically eliminates one of the early local legend favorites

For an institution to completely sever ties with a man who committed more than half is life to......have a gag order blanketed over everyone remotely close, speaks volumes to the potential severity of the issue. My uneducated guess, with nothing to support it is recruiting violations....and I pray it's nothing more

For those who are taking anything GVW says with a grain of salt, I am still waiting to hear why he retired because that was never accurately described through the media either...there is more ( this a know from a prominent figure in Holland) I actually feel bad for GVW on this one, he simply should have said "no comment"

And, the lengthy process to fill his void

And, Snugg's utter failure of a senior year

And, Bunn's disappearance from the roster midway through a season

I truly hope for the Neil family, Hope College and everyone affiliated with Hope that it was simply an inability to work together or a series of minor infractions but it sure seems deeper.  History tells me that unless the news utilizes the Freedom of Information Act or something, we will never know

Question- When Calvin made their run, one of two things occurred.  Please enlighten. Did Hope-
1. Fight, claw and scratch and nothing "went their way"
2. Collectively concede and play with little heart AKA- give up

From the posts already written (mainly from a Calvin perspective) It's mind boggling that this could occur in the most important game of the season, especially with the outcome of the first two contests. We can debate the whole " it's tough to beat a team 3 times" thing....tough to crush a team 3 times? Yes.  Tough to beat them 3 times? It's been done.  Were the adjustments KVS made so incredible that Hope couldn't adjust or didn't they adjust?

Going off of comments from earlier posts- "thoroughly outplayed", "uncontested layups", "NVA needed help and got none", Calvin had "more energy", hope "lacked energy", etc....At Home??? With a championship on the line?? Really???

The telling game for me, pertaining to this young club, was not recent.  Rather it was at Albion and it was all I needed to know.  A "Champion" caliber program should never get blown out by 30,  regardless of the game just played, regardless of the history of Albion teams in their own gym.  This is an average Albion team, that everyone admits lacks the grit to make games ugly and keep them close in their favor.

I'm sure we will hear about how young the team is and they are.  Maybe there was an illness ravaging the team ala 5-6 years ago right around this time.  Yesterday's game, from a distance, sure sounds like the MSU game I had the displeasure of watching.  A bunch of kids with a "meh" attitude and a lack of fight.  Here's "hoping" they get in.  I'm confident their approach will be different in THIS next important game.
