Congrats to Stockwell and Hamilton. The NESCAC is getting the reigning SUNYAC Coach of the Year! Trust me when I tell you he will make Hamilton a top tier team in the NESCAC...THIS YEAR!!

Can't say that we, in the SUNYAC, are sad to see him leave. He made Oswego 1 tough place to win at! He'll do the same for Hamilton!

Please define "top tier." Does that mean he will have a 1st round home game in the NESCAC tournament (top 4 seeds)?

Guy probably is good coach but gotta have the talent too. I saw Hamilton went 16-9 in a MUCH weaker conference than NESCAC. I doubt Hamilton will be a "TOP TIER" team this year and maybe for a bit. Amherst, Middlebury, and Williams will be very strong with Trinity and few others improving a great deal. Don't know what Hamilton has coming for recruits but I predict bottom third of league.

Is there any webcast of the Amherst game against Elms? What do people think of Elm's chances to compete and win?Amherst has a big team and Elms is relatively small(especially their guards...couple 5-4 to 5-7 guys).

I saw the Westfield game on web the other night and Westfield was there for a half. I also looked at the box scores and the other two games were also close at half and then Amherst blitzed their opponents in start of second half. I'd love to see this one though. Hope there is a webcast

How does ECSU stack up with RIC & UMD? Seems like they are playing decent ball and finding ways to win. Always a good mark.

Well, I saw that webcast of the Stockton v Brooklyn game. Brooklyn for the most part looks like they have some talent but looked disinterested. Some guys played hard and others didn't(Granted I wasn't there live but from webscast). What's up with their All-American? Stockton is a tough team who I can see just getting better and better. Man, they had one kid with serious bounce. He block a shot high off the backboard in first half(think it ws called goal tending but wow) Who are their biggest challengers in the NJAC?

I wouldn't sleep on Becker. Still think they will be a player in the NECC.

Wheelock's start is great overall for the NECC. Not taking anything from them but their wins are against average at best teams.I know UNE beat UMD but play that game 9 more times and I think UMD wins. Wentworth, Springfield, and Emmanuel on paper are thought to better because of "better leagues" and facilities but seems like none are anything special. I can't wait to see how they do over next few games. By the way, I heard Wheelock doesn't have a gym. Where do they play home games? I saw they play a late season league game vs Newbury at Simmons.

Anyone see Elms play this year? What do they look like? Saw their roster and looks like they lost 6-7 guys from last year. Some of the new guys are playing(3 or 4). How Daniel webster anyone see them?

What do CUNY people think about the match up Saturday between Stockon and Brooklyn.  Saw Baruch beat Stockton. This seems like a good game in the making looking at personnel returning. Both teams have 1 loss to decent teams.

Outsider here...Wondering what people think about the match up Saturday between Stockon and Brooklyn. Saw Brooklyn was ranked 10th by some magazine & obviously Stockton is good & ranked by the D3Hoops people. Both teams coming in with a loss to decent teams but not powerhouses.

Wheelock played decent in their league at the end of last year if you look at schedule and I think the game vs Elms in playoffs last year(I think semi finals) was a good game in first half. Judging from box scores Wheelock seems to be doing with returners and none of the new players. They actually have a good shot to start 10-1 with the looks of their schedule. I think it will be tough to beat Gordon at home but every other team is very doable for them. That would be something. Then they would have Becker(who won ECAC last year) and Elms soon after. This year in NE will be very interesting with the early success of Wheelock and Thomas beating some teams from big conferences(all be it the weaker ones but inpressive none the less).

There are so many myths pertaining to play overseas. The money(for the most part) is not great and the experience can be awful. I have heard many stories where players do not get paid or the accomodations are awful.

A lot of that is the differences between eastern and western Europe, too.

I would disagree, in general, with that statement.  I think there is more variation from league-to-league than say east/west.   Obviously some western european leagues are at a high level, such as Spain, Germany, and France. However, some of the other western leagues are pretty crappy, such as the British and Irish leagues (for example).  Then you have some good southern/central leagues, like Italy and Greece, and there are also some good leages in the east, like the Turkish Super League.

Outside of the top leagues in those countries, the money is not what most people would think of. I would love to know what the Amherst guys are making. There are many many leagues around the world but most fall far short of what people would think.

Most teams overseas will also provide some type of housing and meals as well. You are correct about additional duties too. Players going to play overseas(either in lower Euro leagues or other countries) are usually doing it for an "experience" or in the hopes of moving up to higher division. Most American players are not going to move up like that though. There are so many myths pertaining to play overseas. The money(for the most part) is not great and the experience can be awful. I have heard many stories where players do not get paid or the accomodations are awful. It is interesting to see so many Amherst kids getting a shot and taking it.

When is the Top25 Poll out?Did Middlebury reload like that? They can lose "top 3 Scorers including top player in conference" and be a borderline Top25 team. Wow! I just gotta doubt that. Are they even considered a top team in NE?

Must admit I only saw Williams once last year on a webcast but have seen Salem St. several times over last few years. I've seen Westfield St. a few times as well and would not compare them to Salem St. at all in terms of player characteristics. Here's my thoughts:
Westfield St. usually has one or two "basketball players" and then the rest of the guys are big bruiser types or specialists(ie a shooter). They will physically try to beat you down with physical play and tough defense. They don't seem to be offensively that diverse but are still very effective.

Salem St. simply gets the largest group of talented players in the MASCAC. They will often get scholarship kids who slip for one reason or another. A few years ago they had this 6-5 guard(last name was Downey I think) who was nasty. Salem will play hard nosed defense but usually has a multitude of offensive weapons who can score the ball.

As with many NESCACs, I think the stereotype of Williams is a bunch of "heady" players who beat you with high IQ, toughness, and great perimeter shooting. I think Williams,Trinity, Amherst, and Middlebury(last year) have shown that they all have super talented kids who are athletic as well( and rarely get credit for that). I heard that Williams runs a version of the Princeton offense(in the past Amherst has run some set from the Princeton as well) so people equate the offense with only smart players who are not very athletic because of the Princeton teams from Pete Carrill in the 80's & 90's. But several NBA teams have run the Princeton with some of the most athletic people in the world. The biggest differences I have seen with Williams(mainly based off the past) is that they have much more size at all positions and maybe a few less guards than SalemSt.(oh and their grads probably make more upon graduation than the other too)

After seeing many of the best teams in D3 from this region and a few near by regions and seeing many of this region's D2 teams, I think the biggest difference is the size and athleticism of the players and not necessarily the skill set. I have seen many kids get D2 scholarships just because they are a bigger kid and another get looked over because he's "too small"(ie kid might be a 5-9 guard or 6-3/6-4 forward). Scholarship level is definitely concerned with the tale of the tape. The other difference is the academic reputations. Many D2 or even D1 level kids will opt to go to NESCAC schools(or even a few NEWMACS). Having seen past Amherst,Williams, and Trinity teams, I saw many kids who could easily have done well at Northeast Region's D2 teams. Just my thoughts

I heard the Trinity coach is still "Interim". Is this true? If so, any insiders know why. Obviously Trinity was not the usual Trinity last year but from what I was hearing he has been responsible for all the talent in there the last 4-5 years and really was coaching the team the last few years. Why not give the guy a legit shot at the job. Like 3-4 years? Anyone have the scoop
